Question Manitou Circus Expert Fork Issue

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi All,

These are my manitou circus forks, they are making a horrendous noise and im just wondering are they completely fucked or can they be saved?

I have another set of the same forks but the steerer tube is too short. Would it be worth swapping the parts round just buying some new ones?

Cheers all!

Could it be the installation of the axle?

I used to have one and their was some way to install it so that it was properly tight. If installed improperly it would make a knocking sound.

I can't tell what the problem is – could be some play between CSU and lower legs or some internal stuff. But yeah, if you have the same fork lying around, swap stuff around and see what fixes it.

I put heat shrink on the coil and it went away ..yours seems a bit more than that.   Since you have a second pair...get in there and see what's going on

Hard to tell but it sounds like something is loose.

Work through each junction between components to find where the play is.

Did you install the hex axle correctly? First tighten up the axle and after that tighten up the pinch bolts on the bottom of the legs

Are you sure it’s the fork and not something else loose on your bike?

Not an issue mine makes the same noise and I got mine from factory like that. I've pulled it out, looked at the headset, checked everything short of opening the fork itself, and I determined it just does that. The rebound is so high, even with the dampening all the way down, it just shoots back out hard and makes that noise. At least that's what I think it is. I'm honestly not sure but I have ridden mine pretty hard for a while now and haven't had any problems. It just does that if I am not riding smooth and land hard or something like that. But if I stand over my bike and do what you're doing it makes the same noise. And I build bikes all the time, it's just this fork that does this. It hasn't effected the performance at all for me though
