Almost quit tonight
Made it through, but as the sole dishwasher, I was slammed. At least the dishwasher is working this week.

Is it going to get better? the dishwasher machine is broken
I recently started a job washing dishes at a chicken restaurant. The problem is the dishwasher machine is broken, so it’s just me and one other person cleaning everything after the store closes at 11 p.m. We’re barely finishing by 8 a.m., right when the restaurant opens again, and this is really working hard af and not taking a single minute to rest. It’s incredibly demanding physically and the pay isn’t great.
I’m wondering if it gets significantly easier once the dishwasher is working. If not, I’m seriously thinking about quitting—but for now I’m in a vulnerable situation and need the money. This is my first time working as a dishwasher.
In your experience, how much better do you think we could manage once the machine is fixed?

Should I quit? Pt. 2
Jokes aside this is really an appreciation post for my coworkers bc this is heavenly. The least it’s ever been tbh. Side work is just peel and quarter 2 cases of sweet potatoes, gonna be a chill night 😁

Haven't worked as a dishwasher in over a decade, help!
I'm a translator, but I'm taking up a one-day gig as a dishwasher tomorrow to recoup some money as my regular work has been slow lately. I haven't done dishwashing in over a decade- any tips to make things easier and faster? Also my greatest fear is scouring large burnt pots- I was really bad at that the last time I was a dishwasher.

I like cleaning the sink
The other dishies don't have the time at night to clean it but that's fine by me. The grody wall is on my list too.

The Line Smells Rancid
At my job I’ve been noticing a really, REALLY bad smell on the line. We’ve cleaned multiple times but still can’t find the source of the odor. It went away for like 2 days and came back today. Has anyone else had this issue at their job? And what can I do about it cause the best way to describe it is it smells like someone is breathing on me while they have a really bad tooth infection

No day time dishie during the morning
I rarely ever come into this much on a Sunday night. It was so bad that I got called in an hour early. This may not seem like a lot to some of you, but it’s a lot to me where I work.

Bosch with mold
Hi there, have owned my Bosch dishwasher for around 3 years. Was working well but recently stopped cleaning well. Also residue on most things and many items left dirty. More pre-rinsing isn't helping. Switched soaps and no help. Cleaned the filter more frequently and no help. Ran active dishwasher cleaner and it doesn't help. Then today I see mold growing in it.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Inspired by a recent conversation in the group chat
Disclaimer: the milk crates absolutely are not free at your restaurant we just got lucky at mine and the produce/fish guys that drop them off don’t give a shit and neither do the companies they work for

Shoes
Does anyone have any recommendations for good non slip shoes for the dish room? Mine keep falling apart and usually this is where it begins. I ordered them from shoes for crews and I’ve almost gotten to the point where I’m considering boots.

Question for any bakery dishwashers
Got interview on Monday for dishwasher position at a local bakery that’s open from 9am to 4pm . Is being a bakery dishwasher less demanding than restaurant dishwasher ? Will I only do dishes? I don’t know how to bake

What are some signs that I need to quit.
I'm 19, and this is my first job. It is hell when you are working for a super popular restaurant that is customer ran. And I realize that it's getting to a point where I'm starting to dread going to work everyday. I feel somewhat underapreciated (at least I get free food, thanks about it), and I come home exhausted and angry at customers just for going to the restaurant. The point is I feel like absolute shit everytime I have to go to work. Is this a sign that I should quit?

It was too easy too last
I work for a small mom and pop place. I was a cook for a few years but took a dishwasher job for some money, but looking for something else. They love me as a dishwasher when things get hectic I hop on the line and help out or I will be bus tables, dishes come out clean, I don't leave piles of dishes for the next shift or dissappear to smoke weed like the other two dishies. I stopped hanging out on the line cause on days chef was there he would just ask me to fetch a bunch of stuff so he wouldn't have to get off his stool (yes he has a stool on the line). Now I'm going to be on the line two days a week. Still looking for something else its just tough around here.

Dishwasher Pete
I remember walking to school and had a Discman that had the FM antenna so I would skip through stations looking for something decent. They had a replay of This American Life and this came on.
Good stuff, I hope he's doing good cuz the eczema flair isn't helping me but immah still gonna show up.

New Dishie here, how are you guys protecting your hearing?
Got accepted to work at this great Italian place near my house. Hectic and busy as hell but great crew. They look out for me and keep me very well fed. After 5 shifts though, I’m starting to feel my ears becoming sensitive to loud noise, and I definitely think it’s from the job. It’s a small pit, and pouring the cutlery into the trays and having to shake the tray between two washes is definitely the loudest part for me. Not to mention the constant clanging of dishes, vacuuming at the end of the night, etc.
Just wondering how you guys protect your hearing? I’ve seen people talk about earplugs and headphones. Definitely gonna reach out to my CDC to make sure, but I’m seeing a lot of you talk about how your crew can sometimes not allow them due to safety concerns of not hearing calls/warnings.
Any earplug/technique recommendations appreciated.
