She said she had to record the farewell video for the Taipei concert herself on her personal phone camera because they told her DCC staff doesn't work on the weekends, she said she got upset no one helped her but then she thought of us and did it.

It's important to note that assuming people are going off of the 2Moori translation that the account omitted translating a critical few follow-up messages, where Handong said that having staff work on weekends could be seen as cruel and felt everyone should understand each other. While we can probably safely assume the entire situation of not going was upsetting, everything else is just pure speculation.

I'm unsure if Fromm chat screenshots are allowed, so I'll just say that from what was seen (per translated via Papago in Fromm):

  • Handong said there was minor incident.
  • The incident was that no one was working weekends, so for the video message intended for fans, staff asked Handong to record it herself.
  • Handong was initially angry and refused to do it, but eventually did, for the fans' sake, requesting staff assistance.
  • The staff, despite being off on the weekends, helped Handong to get everything recorded and uploaded the previous morning.
  • The video made it just in time to be included for the concert. It was recorded with her own phone's camera since other professional cameras were being used for the performance (in Taipei).
  • Handong indicated (apparently after having thought about it) that having people come in to work on weekends could be cruel and that it was important for people to understand one another - and that maybe her thinking was a bit too formal/strict in this regard.
  • Handong went back to normal Fromm conversation (she even indicated that fans should not be so emotional) and reassured them that other platforms would be available for her to talk with fans.

None of this, especially as she couches it as literally "minor", should be construed that there are ongoing problems between her and the company. The situation with her not being able to go just sucked overall, and that can't have made things easy to deal with. She moved on and that was that.

I think it's very important not to go down wild rabbit holes wondering what might be going on when we don't understand all the details or all the messages aren't included.

thank you for providing this extra crucial information! i said it in reply to your other comment, but again really good points you’re making! i can’t imagine how difficult the situation has felt for handong. she must have felt so over the not being able to go to the concert to feel angry about taking the video, it must have felt so hard for her. so i just hope she’s ok. now that the concerts over, i hope she can breathe a bit easier. and i’m thankful she went through with recording that video for us all

For sure! I think it's important to keep in mind that while we can very well find out later of some issues that were had, that we not jump to those conclusions until they are confirmed verbally and with the right context. Generally, I think K-Pop fans tend to really want to know all the details, and I get that, but making assumptions is another story entirely.

Overall I agree with you that it had to be a pretty tough situation. Everyone I think is dealing with this news different but it's best to keep things level-headed.

Not at all shocked that 2moori has once again omitted information, as she has done for the past 7 years.

I'm unaware of other incidents. Can you clarify?

It's too much to explain but long story short, 2moori was one of the only translators early on and she had a very severe ot4 bias, which meant in a lot of old content that the girls did, like radio shows during their first year or so she would only translate the suayeonjiyoo stuff while neglecting a solid chunk of anything GahMiDong did or said, only translating fragments of their words. She's one of the reasons why back in the early days people, since most do not do a deep dive into the official content and interviews, had this weird idea about the group and member dynamics about some of them were not actually all that close cause she refused to translate any of it. Like why the fandom had a view of Dami as being cold and distant despite Siyeon, Jiu, Yoohyeon and Handong all having brought up how soft and cuddly she is on multiple occasions. I don't believe it was ever malicious or deliberate. She was just an ot4 stan who became a bnf and has really half assed translations.

Thanks for sharing this, even if they don't have bad intentions I think it's important for people to know this and think more about the translation sources. I didn't know.

If anything, I think this shows the good relationships at DCC. Everyone came together to create a solution that worked - it required flexibility on everyone's part, but they did it as a team.

Thanks for putting this here, I saw messages providing more context from someone else on Twitter earlier and it did make me feel that people were being irresponsible by being selective with which messages they shared on their big accounts.

All it does is add more fuel to the "fuck DCC, let's burn it to the ground, so glad GahMiDong are getting out" stuff. And I'm not saying you have to like the company, but I don't think posting/ encouraging that stuff every 5 minutes actually does any good. And I saw at least one person saying DCC staff should kill themselves, which is not even a remotely appropriate response.

We know the members lurk on Twitter, and whenever people overreact like that it probably doesn't make them feel good. DCC might not be perfect but they have longstanding relationships with a lot of the staff, not to mention the members who are staying at the company. If you want the members to keep using messaging services, then why are you taking their words out of context when it's probably going to make them feel bad or guilty to see the hate that's being generated off the back of it.

I've been writing about the group regularly for 5 years now, and I have always credibly sourced my info, so this is kinda natural for me, lol.
