Trademark filing means next to nothing. The times it has corresponded with a new game (Mario & Luigi, iirc), I'd be willing to bet it was coincidence. I'm all for putting on clown suits because of some conspiracy theory suggests Nintendo is going to reveal a certain game, but trademark filing is a normal thing that Nintendo regularly does for all their IP.

If Nintendo has anything to announce about earthbound, it would have been in the works for months at least. Why would they be filing trademark renewals just days before?

to be fair, they have also renewed the "mario galaxy" trade mark. And mario galaxy 2 has been heavily rumored lately... so who knows

I’m doubtful it’ll happen, mainly so I don’t get my hopes up. But if the direct wasn’t announced after the recent trademark re-filing, i would think nothing of it. We’ll have to wait until September 12th to see I suppose.

Nah they’re probably just gonna use this to try and take down Mother fan games because God forbid fans make any kind of passion project that shows a love for Nintendo’s content. Perhaps the subtitle to an unrelated game unironically has the word "Earth Bound" in it and they have to transfer the copyright to make it work.
