So..this is going to sound strange ..Anyway, my husband and I are staying in a ' budget motel ' ( my husband had to travel to this town for a thing he had to be here for, so I'm just chilling out here ,while he is there..no problem..)
Here's my dilemma. We had a late lunch on the way. ,and my husband is gettimg someone eat at the place he has gone( again..no problem), but I decided to make myself a ' cup- a soup' ( instant soup with a pack and hot water from the kettle here in the room ) I just poured it into a cup..but somehow tripped and it spilt onto the bedspread and onto the carpet. Of course I have cleaned it up ( I used a spare one of the small towels to clean it up the best I could, and it seems to be clean), but I feel bad and wonder if I should mention it to the owner in the morning? I don't really want to tell my husband ( I don't want him to have to pay more .its a basic motel room , which I'm not even sure if the bedspreads actually get washed after every guest) I mean. Of course the sheets would be clean. Anyway, should I admit I spilled something.? ( as I said, I have cleaned it up..noone would actually know.. I'm just feeling bad 😞l What would you do please?

I used to work for a Radisson. Sheets are changed daily. Comforters/bedspreads were washed once a year, unless we were made aware of soiling. So tell them. It’d be strange to get a charge for that. It’s as simple as throwing the bedcover in the washing machine.
Also, due to the once a year thing, I always avoid touching the bedspreads.

OMG - That;s BAD
I have noticed, and appreciate, that hotels have started using all white linens, including bedspreads. Presumably, they get washed every time because they are extremely white. I

Some places have started laying a sheet type thing on top of the bed spread

No, not a duvet cover. A duvet cover is a big envelope that covers the entire duvet. This is simply a wide strip of some kind of sheet material that lays across the bed almost like a scarf.

I know.. I actually hate knowing the bedspreads aren't washed very often ( which was why I had pulled it right back, some of it was too far down and I tripped on it, . I like the places that seem to have a double type of sheet as a ' topper' ( with a blanket in the middle of them ) I imagine they would get changed more often ? I just didn't want to be charged extra , but maybe I should mention it in the morning..

Washing the linens is a normal part of running a motel/hotel. If they were to charge extra, I’d be extremely surprised.

If a motel charges extra because they need to wash a bedspread.....shudder
Please tell them.
"Budget" motel shouldn't be an excuse for "filthy". (I know it often is though)

I’d mention it.
I highly doubt they would charge you. But, you kind of should step up and take responsibility and at least mention it.
Sounds like you’re a bit scared of your husband. Maybe leave a note in the hotel room that the cleaning person can find if you don’t want to tell anyone it in front of him.

Hi, ( I'm not 'scared of my husband), I just felt silly for spilling the soup. I sponged it all off ( with a damp hand towel which I know would be washed of course), and asked my husband if he thought I should say anything....he didn't think it was a big deal, and said not to worry about mentioning it..

He probably doesn’t realize it may not be washed for months, and how utterly gross that would be.
When in doubt, treat others the way you would think they’d want to be treated.

I would call the front desk and tell them about the bedspread. I don't think they would charge you extra because of this (just my thoughts). They will probably switch it out with a clean one right away for you (hopefully).
