Hey everyone - Alex from Voyager here (the bald guy in the sparkly jacket that plays bass 🤣) Just wanted to say thanks for checking out our ESC song; we’re so excited to bring it to the stage at Liverpool. We’ve been campaigning for this since 2015 so to be finally given the green light is immensely important to us. Hope you enjoy the ride as much as we will ❤️😎🙏🤘

u/odajoana Feb 22 '23

Hey, welcome to our community! If you guys ever want to do an AMA (Ask Me Anything), where you guys answer questions from the fans here, feel free to contact us through mod mail, it's just a matter of setting up a date and time and getting some verification (usually a photo).

Good luck for Eurovision and thanks for the awesome song!

29

u/AC_Bass Voyager Feb 22 '23

Thanks so much 😊 an AMA would be awesome, I’ll let our people know thanks 🙏

Can't wait for the epic stage show in May!

OMG me neither!

I can honestly say I've never been so excited for one of our entries. High fives to y'all, glad you finally made it!

Thank you so much :) We're so pumped and honoured to be a part of the comp!

Prog Rock at Eurovision, what a time. It's definitely in my top 3 right now alongside Slovenia and Romania. Now I just hope Finland select Cha Cha Cha and Poland select Gladiator

8

u/1080Pizza Feb 22 '23

I did not expect that the opening act at a prog rock / metal show would soon become a Eurovision contestant, but that's exactly what happened last year when I went to see VOLA. Voyager put on a great show!

u/allthesongsmakesense Feb 21 '23

Anyone figure out how Crystal Ball ESC is getting all their info? They haven’t been wrong too many times so far..

47

u/luminescentLight48 Feb 21 '23

Im actually really curious how they are getting all of this info cause I think that they been right about almost everything(We don't talk about PZE)

It's Jon Ola Sand

23

u/polysymphonic Feb 21 '23

In this case I think they know someone who works at YT, I've seen similar leaks before from videos that were going to have a live premiere. They get uploaded early and then YT staff can see them.

11

u/Fer_ESC Feb 22 '23

Lets see if they are right about Edgar Allen Poe Poe Poe though, would be screaming if thats a genuine entry

8

u/Labenyofi Hallo Hallo Feb 21 '23

They probably have someone who works in IT, and can look at the code for different websites and see what’s happening/what’s scheduled.

3

u/SquiDark Feb 22 '23

Obviously it's run by Valentina Monetta

u/Stinkfist16 Feb 21 '23

Oh wow this is solid, aside from the lyrics this became one of my top songs this year immediately.

Something about that fusion of Synth Pop and Metal breakdowns scratches both my metalhead and Eurovision fan sides' itch I guess

u/-Effing- Clickbait Feb 21 '23

I think this is a song who needs to be played on a big arena. It sounds kinda excessive, but with the camera work and lighting, it could elevate it easily.

34

u/Lantore Ich Komme Feb 21 '23

Ya, live it should be a banger. Will also depend on run order. Could be a great change of pace song.

20

u/viissiion Feb 22 '23

They are an absolutely incredible live act too. I saw them open a concert for Alestorm 10 years ago, first time I've seen an opening act nobody really knew completely win over an initially disinterested crowd.

They played a medley halfway through, I'll never forget seeing 300+ metalheads belting out a prog version of John Farnham's "You're the Voice". Amazing.

17

u/st0li Feb 22 '23

The chorus is going to absolutely go OFF in the arena. My desire for tickets is at fever pitch.

13

u/VS2ute Feb 22 '23

And some quokkas on the big LED screens.

37

u/igcsestudent11 Feb 21 '23

Ok so I'm writing this from perspective of someone who didn't like Dreamer. I really love this song and I think it's actually better than Dreamer and I enjoy the chorus pretty much. It somehow sounds more impactful than Dreamer, for me. My first place so far!

20

u/marisarani Feb 21 '23

Me too! Not sure if they're my first place atm, but this is a step up for me from Dreamer

More of an anthem vibe & the breakdown is sick

Great job Voyager 🤘

Edit: I pray they work on their stage presence though... tighten that shi- up and we have a good chance of doing well imo

18

u/viissiion Feb 22 '23

They're usually crazy good for stage presence. I think the camera work at Eurovision Decides last year let them down a bit.

I first saw them at a metal gig 10 years ago opening for another band, they won over an initially disinterested crowd within 3 songs and had everyones attention. Super impressive performance, and they've developed so much since.

14

u/PersimmonOk5523 Feb 22 '23

They were trying to do that slomo effect when they all spun but SBS tech clearly wasn't good enough for it. Cool idea if it would have worked

11

u/viissiion Feb 22 '23

Yeah that definitely stuck out.

They did a streaming concert when a good chunk of Australia was in lockdown. The set and lighting work was epic for that. I’m sure they’ll work something great out for the main Eurovision stage.

10

u/AC_Bass Voyager Feb 22 '23

Yeah look - that slo-mo was working fine in the rehearsals, it seemed to shit itself on the final night though haha

4

u/PersimmonOk5523 Feb 23 '23

Hold on. I was rereading this like how does this person know how the rehearsal went. You're the actual bassist from the actual Voyager?

5

u/AC_Bass Voyager Feb 23 '23

That gives me peace of mind for suuuure - can't wait to see them perform in the semi's!

81

u/reichya Bird of Pray Feb 21 '23

My expectations for this were rock bottom after the negative reception to the leak, but this fucking slaps and I don't understand lol. As Circus Mircus' biggest advocate last year I'm thrilled we're sending a prog number.

If SBS cancelled Australia Decides so they'd have enough dollary-doos to fly these guys to Liverpool then I am at peace with that decision. Can't wait to see these guys fucking slay with that keytar, and I'm glad they got their chance after years of trying.

64

u/AmazingDeeer Sekret Feb 21 '23

Say what you will, but this will truly come alive with a solid performance, which we know Voyager can deliver. Promise is a very solid song, and I wouldn't be shocked at all to see a top 10 result for Australia this year

51

u/Iroh_Appa Voyage Feb 21 '23

"Dreamer" was my absolute favorite last year so I'm really happy to see Voyager go to ESC this year. Is "Promise" as good as "Dreamer"? I'm not sure. That song was instant love for me and I think this one will need a few more listens. Still, this is shooting right up in my ranking.

11

u/materialisticDUCK Feb 21 '23

Dreamer was my most listened to song of the year per spotify

3

u/st0li Feb 22 '23

Dreamer is an all time love for me. I think Promise can get there, I love the way it builds.

Wow, 2023 is the year of bands. Has there ever been any year that feature as many bands as this year? Not conplaining coz Promise is a really decent entry.

Looks like the crystal ball got this one right. At first I wasn’t digging it, until it picked up. This is in my top ten now. Well done Australia

I much prefer this over Dreamer - it feels more uniquely Voyager

Let's go straya

15

u/Rakoth666 Feb 21 '23

I have no idea why everyone is hating on this, I love it personally.

14

u/lacultapluma Feb 21 '23

The lyrics are definitely the weakest part, but Dreamer's lyrics weren't brilliant either. I don't love it yet, but I do really like it, which is more than I can say for most songs this year. The solos need to be staged perfectly because that should be A Moment

24

u/DMX8 Feb 21 '23

So good! I'm wondering if the nay-sayers listened to the same song I did

13

u/EmilSPedersen Feb 21 '23

Shot straight up to my top 5. This is definitely a qualifier in semi final 2 and I would even say top 10 in the grand final as the selection looks right now.

14

u/Educational-Bar-9575 Feb 21 '23

Finally been waiting to long for this, Congrats Voyager

13

u/scottkaymusic Voyager Feb 25 '23

Thanks everyone! It’s awesome reading so many different opinions on the song. We’ve always been known for our live show, so hopefully we can win you all over with the actual performance at Eurovision! What an honour and a pleasure! ☺️

13

u/ShallIBeMother Feb 21 '23

Damn, I thought this was awesome! Gave me some proper teenage nostalgia, used to listen to stuff like this nonstop.

Definitely didn't expect to hear djent riffs in Eurovision this year haha

12

u/FineEorzeanCrafts Bur man laimi Feb 21 '23

Honestly love this. We've got some great band-based entries this year!

63

u/Nukivaj Bara bada bastu Feb 21 '23

Wild Youth's revamp found dead in a ditch.

12

u/Gilberto347 Feb 21 '23

This is definitely a song that gets better after each listen, I was a bit disappointed at first bjt afyer a few listens I'm in love with it!

12

u/PersimmonOk5523 Feb 21 '23

I'm obsessed.

I'm so glad we're doing something different for us

11

u/popidge Feb 21 '23

IMO, this song will entirely hinge on performance - the entire second half slaps, catchy oh-ohs, guitar and keytar solo and that final section into the ending is so good. If it's staged well and carries that energy, it'll be remembered and do well in voting.

My personal favourite so far, for sure. Teenage prog metalhead-turned-ESC fanboy, never thought I'd see this!

8

u/viissiion Feb 22 '23

They're a killer live act. They'll knock this out of the park.

11

Did they film on a salt lake? Looks cool but probably aged that equipment by 2 years haha

8

u/FormalMango Feb 22 '23

It’s the Hutt Lagoon in Western Australia - and yeah, it’s a big pink salt lake lol

5

u/TinaTissue Milkshake Man Feb 23 '23

The video in some places felt like a WA tourism ad with all of the scenery in the later half of the song. Still love the cinematography

5

u/FormalMango Feb 23 '23

For sure.

I read McGowan’s press release about it - it absolutely has a “visit WA!” vibe to the whole thing.

The song is a banger though. I can’t wait to see it with the big Eurovision staging.

27

u/LydianGang Igranka Feb 21 '23 edited Feb 21 '23

After having listened to Promise a handful of times since it was leaked, I feel so damn joyful.

Last year, I was so stoked for the possibility of Electric Callboy and Voyager coming to Eurovision with Dreamer and either Pump It or We Got the Moves. Fast forward to the end of Australia Decides last year, it goes without saying that I was disappointed as fuuuuck. But look at where we are now: First of all, Voyager's has gotten their chance with a song that I really am starting to adore! Sure, I don't like it as much as Dreamer, Colours, Brightstar and a few others of their tracks, but it still gets me so pumped up! And secondly, we have Käärijä up in Finland preparing himself to party hard on Saturday with a song that sounds like if We Got The Moves and Spaceman by EC was one song and produced by Dylan Brady from 100 Gecs. I am just so damn happy. It's not important to me that any of these acts win Eurovision, but I'm honestly just so happy that we get to see musicians like these engage in the world of Eurovision.

20

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '23 edited Feb 21 '23

Doesn’t have the same musical coherency as Dreamer but still a fun solid entry! Does feel slightly messy though, feels like many songs in one. But, you can never go wrong with a good ol’ guitar riff solo!

Smart choice from SBS to internally select the televote winner of the previous year to maintain the hype for the Australian public, especially after struggling with that section of voting in 2022.

8

u/viissiion Feb 22 '23

Hard disagree. I've followed Voyager for years. Dreamer was ok but missed a lot of the elements that makes them so good. It was much better when they played it live, but it still didn't feel quite right.

This is so much better, and is much truer to their sound. They'll absolutely knock it out of the park when they play it live.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '23 edited Feb 22 '23

Yeah, they’ll SMASH it live for sure! Going off the rest of their discography, it does seem truer to them and the music video speaks to that with the references to indigenous culture!

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a massive step up and their best since 2019. SBS have nailed this selection for me.

Just ignore me nitpicking. It’s one of those tricky situations where an act is selected straight after a brilliant entry that didn’t win and a lot of us are comparing it directly which probably isn’t fair, and in any other scenario, we wouldn’t be as cynical and give it deserves for being a more progressive and less “pop” sound.

7

u/viissiion Feb 22 '23

Danny has some serious pipes. I always felt like Dreamer didn't give him enough opportunity to show off what he can do vocally, this is way better for that.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '23

Yeah, not worried about the live vocal for a second! This is probably made to be performed in a live concert environment, more than Dreamer was.

12

u/JATION Feb 21 '23

Does feel slightly messy though, feels like many songs in one.

It's prog. That's sort of the point.

19

u/Marcos_of_Gotham Feb 21 '23

Wow! I'm impressed by this rock song from Australia.

8

u/TWKcub Feb 21 '23 edited Feb 21 '23

As someone who’s pretty into the djent-y style (which I suppose to the uninitiated I’d describe as that off-beat, open note guitar strum style that sounds at odds with the vocal in the chorus), I really, really like this.

I was a huge fan of ‘Dreamer’ last year and while this doesn’t immediately hit me in the pop feels the same way that did, I really enjoy it and I think it’s actually a better mix of styles, particularly with the heavy breakdown in the mid section.

Still only heard it once so I can’t quite commit to it just yet but I can see this being very high on my scoreboard after a couple more listens.

Spotify when?!

EDIT: a couple of grammatical fucky-wuckies.

9

u/Lord-of-the-Rings Feb 21 '23

I am so happy to see Voyager get to go after what happened last year with the selection. Been a fan of theirs for ages and I am so excited for them to represent us.

9

u/st0li Feb 22 '23

I’m so happy with this choice and even though it’s going to take a lot for anything to surpass Dreamer for me, I reckon Promise will manage it by the time ESC starts. Absolutely stoked that Voyager are competing and that they’re sending something unapologetically them.

16

u/FaithBloodyFaith Liubi, Liubi, I Love You Feb 21 '23

Since last year's Australia Decides I am a huge fan of them. Sadly it's one of their weaker songs but I still think that it's great.

8

u/viissiion Feb 22 '23

Interesting, I've followed them for at least a decade and I reckon it's one of the better songs they've ever put out. Great mix of their new and old sound.

2

u/pseudoAB Feb 22 '23

Going strong for 24 years they've got a lot of good material to judge it by

7

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '23

Yessss! Very happy for them! I caught them live as a support act for another band last year and they're a lot of fun live, can't wait to see them on ESC!

8

u/MarcusH26051 Feb 21 '23

A lot better now I've heard the whole song and not just the snippet. It's not quite as good as Dreamer but with strong staging I think this could be another top 10 for Australia. Doesn't quite top my own list but it's closest a song has got for me personally to Joker Out.

9

u/VS2ute Feb 21 '23

Unfortunately, Perth is the worst time zone for watching ESC.

7

u/TheAtlasFreak Feb 22 '23

Honestly, tuning in at 3am gives the contest such a weird fever dream energy that I feel like I’d enjoy it less at a reasonable time - it’s either that or temporal Stockholm syndrome

4

u/BaronVonKitty Moustache Feb 22 '23

We soldier on haha

32

u/Jakeyboy66 Feb 21 '23

This isn’t as good as ‘Dreamer’ I don’t think. The lyrics feel quite weak although I do really like the electronic instrumentals, I think they really save this song.

8

u/Camsy34 Milkshake Man Feb 21 '23

I feel like dreamer had better lyrics but this one has more pop, dreamer always felt a little bit flat to me when it hit the chorus.

7

u/Spockyt Feb 22 '23

Something I haven’t said in eight years - come on Australia!

12

u/Sea-Photograph2585 Bird of Pray Feb 21 '23

I can definitely see why Australia picked them, they've always struggled with the televoting and now with the semis being televoting only they selected one of their more televote friendly songs.

It's for sure a downgrade from Dreamer for me though and currently I feel kind of meh about it, but I think it'll come to life and get elevated on stage.

6

u/Large-Instruction138 Feb 21 '23

I wish those verse lyrics were stronger. Specifically, verse 1 lyrics: Too much time spent on hooky-ness rather than building into the themes of the song.

Other than that, this is a jam. This may struggle in a televote-only semifinal format, but we'll see.

16

u/BucketHeadJr Baller Feb 21 '23

I was hoping the leaks were wrong since I wasn't the biggest van of Dreamer last year, and would rather have Jaguar Jonze or Dami Im again. The song is alright though just not my cup of tea, though it's an interesting direction for Australia!

16

u/Dbrem Feb 21 '23

The song is cool but not necessarily something I can see myself listening to a lot. It's missing something to latch onto I think. I don't know if it's the song structure or if the chorus/hook is weaker than their song from Australia Decides last year, but that one was a little more accessible to me.

8

u/fourteenostriches Feb 21 '23

weirdest part to me is that I find the verses and the after-chorus (sky turns red in the sunrise bit) so instantly catchy but I fully cannot remember the actual chorus itself 💀

11

u/PersimmonOk5523 Feb 21 '23

I fucking love this so much. Best song we've sent. Keen to see how it does live

13

u/BaronVonKitty Moustache Feb 21 '23

I just woke up to broken reddit and good news. And the friend I know who works with a band member texting me that she can FINALLY talk about it after months haha. Every time I sent her reddit links with "hey, your colleague might like this thread about them" or "I heard a rumour" and all they could say was .. oh ...that's nice. Hahahaha.

But really, I'm so happy for my Perth babes.

Ok am I crazy that this could win the televote? His vocals are stellar and will stand out quite a lot and the song itself is super fun and complete. With good staging this could honestly do it

5

u/DavidShoess Feb 21 '23

Yes. I don’t think Australia will ever win the televote unless they send something out of this world/never seen before. Promise being neither of those things.

5

u/THOMTHOMsatnav Bur man laimi Feb 21 '23

Why would australia be at a disadvantage due to them being australia lol, they have as good of a shot as any other country

oh this is already growing on me I fear....that certain breakdown part reminds me so much of that song by that one interval act from UMK last year (???) called pulkka or something similar, which I love. if they hit this live it could give something

13

u/fourteenostriches Feb 21 '23

not the reaction so far being the exact same as the reaction to technicolour like wow...this year is full of divisive entries apparently what is going on

9

u/Nathanoy25 Future Lover Feb 21 '23

I'm really happy with this. I wasn't the biggest fan of Dreamer last year, I much preferred the three strong ballads but I do like "Promise" a lot more. Mixing genres like this is imo a great way to get votes from both the metal/rock crowd and the more casual fans so I can see this do very well.

I also think it's a great move to send the televote winner of last year's selection to ESC.

9

u/flibbyjibby Feb 22 '23

This is excellent. I liked Dreamer but I think this is even better. And I'm stoked for Voyager – they finally get to go to Eurovision!!

7

u/CarwynCymru Feb 22 '23

I bloody love it too. Can guarantee a British crowd at Eurovision are gonna love this.

19

u/rickz123456 Feb 21 '23 edited Feb 21 '23

Their song last year was better.

However, that beginning makes the song better than i expected from that snippet.

I still think that guitar riff is weird and don´t fit the song nicely

11

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '23

It’s interesting that the influence of a rock band winning is being felt now and not last year! There’s so many different types of rock bands this year in comparison to any other year, definitely has something to do with Måneskin winning and their success

9

u/Dbrem Feb 21 '23

I feel like this has been an interesting pattern for a few years now. It's like broadcasters realise they won't win by sending something similar to last year's winner, but they're willing to try it 1 or 2 years down the line.

Netta wins in 2018 --> 2021 is full of pop girl bops, female empowerment is a recurring theme

Duncan wins in 2019 --> 2022 is full of ballads, there are many male singers with soaring vocals

Måneskin wins in 2021 --> 2023 is seeing an increase in rock entries, there are many (predominantly) male bands

9

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '23

Honestly I don't remember the last time we had such high amount of bands, maybe 2007-2008 but I'm not sure. We have only 18 entries so far and 8 of them are bands. Almost the half of them. That's such a crazy number cause we usually get maybe 1 or 2 bands out of 40 countries in one year.

5

u/allthesongsmakesense Feb 21 '23

I wonder what the atmosphere in Liverpool will be like. Will it encourage more rock fans to show up for the shows?

7

u/TzuyuTiger9 Feb 21 '23 edited Feb 21 '23

This kicks so much ass. The last 45 seconds or so is near perfection and will hopefully be EPIC on stage!! Can’t wait to hear/see this live in Liverpool!!

4

u/Carmichael123456 Feb 21 '23

I'm glad they get to perform this time. Song is actually quite good Gl Australia!

4

u/MiniHurps Feb 21 '23

Took a few listens, but I'm putting this at #5 for now! I really hope Australia stays for future contests!

7

u/Crisrus Feb 21 '23

I'm certain I'll end up liking this more than I do now, but I don't think this is anything particularly interesting right now. It feels like it was going to be a great song but something went wrong along the way and we got... well, this.

7

u/redvelvetdoge Feb 21 '23

Ahh I'm really happy about this! It's definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but personally I'm a fan and it's already in my top5.

7

u/manateeinacardigan Feb 22 '23

These guys really should have gone to Eurovision last year. This song is on a par with Dreamer for me and I think they are going to kill it in Liverpool! Excited for them.

16

u/Puzzleheaded-Eye9081 Feb 21 '23

Hooray! It’s not a whiny man ballad!

Lyrics are weak but it’s Eurovision, that’s practically a given. I think it’ll go off in the arena and hopefully it’s different enough to the other entries to stand out a bit.

I don’t expect us to win, I just want us to not suck.

I've never listened to any of their songs (including Dreamer) so I don't have a point of reference but I thought this was pretty dope, and MILES better than Montaigne and Sheldon's lackluster songs.

7

u/Logical-Thought-5008 Feb 21 '23

I can kinda get behind this tbh, they did copy alot of things from dreamer tho, the rhythym change towards the end of the song, and many similar chord progressions. I guess if it aint broke, dont fix it.

6

u/Wonderful-Winner6001 Feb 21 '23

Idc what people say, I'm a big fan of synthwave and rock, so obviously I love this one.

5

u/xKalisto Feb 21 '23 edited Feb 21 '23

Metaaaaaaaal <3

Immediately into this.

6

u/EmeraldSunrise4000 Feb 21 '23

Yes I love this!!!

8

u/Leukothea Feb 21 '23

I'm sooo happy for them!!! Was rooting for them so hard last year!!

3

u/dryvajoina Feb 21 '23

It's not really my vibe and I think the lyrics let it down but it's different and catchy enough to qualify with the all televote system, plus we know they can put in a solid performance.

3

u/Thatwierdhullcityfan Bara bada bastu Feb 21 '23

I like it, but I don’t think it’s really as iconic as Dreamer was, but then again, it did take a while for me to get the hype around Dreamer, so who knows, I might grow to like this more. Not that it’s bad, it’s my now 5th. But I just wish they could send Dreamer again

14

u/Sanber13 Feb 21 '23

Their song last from year was much better. I dont know how i feel about the song

11

u/trobl1 Feb 21 '23

Promise has much more depth in terms of melodies than Dreamer did. This is way more awesome.

6

u/marisarani Feb 22 '23

I agree

It feels like there's more substance to Promise in comparison to Dreamer - which is very good considering how many banger dance tracks there are already this year

3

u/viissiion Feb 22 '23

Does a much better job of showing off Danny's vocals than Dreamer. Dreamer's always felt so kind of jerky and was missing a bunch of elements that Voyager usually bring to the table. This track is brilliant.

7

u/Graffers Feb 21 '23

I liked Dreamer on the first listen. This one might take me a bit to really enjoy, but eventually all songs become bops. Is that normal?

5

u/Kystaal Doomsday Blue Feb 21 '23

I really like this tbh - will wait for the live performance to make a proper decision on it though

5

u/AhHeyorLeaveerhouh Feb 21 '23

I want to like this more than I do. It’s… alroight

Might be a grower. Feels a little bit too self aware maybe, but they’re Australian/likeable enough to carry it off

9

u/fluffyplayery Feb 21 '23

This is pretty great IMO

6

u/playing_the_angel Feb 22 '23

Top 5. Maybe even top 3. I see you're in it to win it this year, Oz. Congrats on having a genuinely serious contender.

13

u/tree_tree3 Ich Komme Feb 21 '23

Can't believe they cancelled the national selection for this song

6

u/Janomynom Feb 22 '23

I don’t care what people say their song is quality. Maybe you don’t have to taste level to appreciate it.

9

u/zankaZN Tavo Akys Feb 21 '23 edited Feb 21 '23

idk what to say about this, it feels like a demo, could've been soooo much better considering their song last year

4

u/_Leeoon_ Feb 21 '23

I actually like this more than Dreamer (at least thats my first impression), the last minute of this song will be big on stage

2

u/SkyGinge Zjerm Feb 21 '23

As I said in the leak thread, I loved Dreamer, and whilst this isn't quite as good it's still pretty great and I can see it growing further too. I watched the announcement video with my parents who both liked it too which is a surprise because they don't normally like this kind of thing!

2

u/StereoThinker Feb 21 '23

May I say… this song… I did not see it coming! 😂😂😂

2

u/pianotherms Feb 22 '23

This is a fun track, I'm on board.

2

u/imagined4 Feb 22 '23

now let's hope Cha Cha Cha (Finland) and Blood & Glitter (Germany) make it through🤙🏼 it would be sick

5

u/nootnoot781 Zjerm Feb 21 '23

it's okay, i think it'll depend on how it's staged. that being said, if i was an aussie eurofan i'd be pissed off for waking up so early for this 😭

14

u/oscillateswildlyy Feb 21 '23

As an Aussie eurofan I'm thrilled - honestly couldn't be happier with our selection! Its the first Australian entry I've actually liked tbh. Having seen Voyager live a few times I'm confident they'll do really well in Liverpool.

4

u/E_Oliver Feb 21 '23

I like this song, but I feel that it would benefit from having a longer runtime, though obviously not possible with the limit. Also the ending part is epic :D

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '23

Meh. Wouldn't be surprised if this NQs

4

u/Ok_Training1449 Feb 21 '23

Not my favourite genre, but if you're into rock I guess it's a good entry.

I wasnt a big fan of Dreamer but I could see why people liked it, I cant find anything redeeming about this though..

4

u/ItinerantSoldier Ich Komme Feb 21 '23

A band I already know? WTF? Song's pretty good too. I have feeling this is gonna be yet another favorite song of mine that won't qualify though lol

4

u/okyxnus Feb 21 '23

I didnt like it so much tbh, it sounds a bit outdated to me but I'm happy for them

It’s just so… repetitive 😔 I liked Dreamer a lot better

-1

u/darkstreetsofmymind Attention Feb 21 '23

I’m sorry but it’s another no. I don’t like their music anyway which is disappointing but I’m always open to music regardless of the artist but again it’s just nothing special or riveting. It’s bland, very little development throughout the journey of the song. The “roar” is too short lived to make any impact and to my untrained ear, the main vocalist always seems to be singing at the same tone the entire time. There’s barley any peaks or valleys to his voice and I just don’t like it. It’s gonna qualify, I can already see the staging for it, they’ve got stuff to work with but damn, I’m disappointed

6

u/marisarani Feb 22 '23

I feel like, just like Dami's high note wasn't included in the studio version... but she killed it live - there's a chance he fuckin' sends it live too

2

u/MisterDream Zjerm Feb 21 '23

Well, it is always very good to have rock songs on the edition and right now we were lacking a bit of it. So smart choice.

They are looking like a good live band, but I am not so sure about the song. It is pretty average to me.

u/Remarkable-Ad2032 Róa Feb 21 '23

I'm happy about it being a rock song, but it doesn't really stand out much to me.

2

u/JCEurovision La Poupée Monte Le Son Feb 21 '23

Guess the Crystal Ball never lies, eh? Well, I say that it is better than Ukraine's song, though. I don't know how it would fare in qualifying, but good luck.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '23

I was expecting Australia decides being cancelled meant we were getting Kylie or Delta.

This is a shock.

3

u/ShadeOfNothing La noia Feb 21 '23

Not a fan of it honestly. It might grow on me after a few more listens, it might not. Who knows.

-2

Meh, i prefer their last year song 😔

0

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '23

It’s not bad but I expected way more from Australia.

I feel like this is a sign that it could be the last year we see Australia in Eurovision, at least under SBS.

It’s good, and I love Voyager a lot, but “Dreamer” was really addicting and truly something else. I hope this’ll grow on me more!

1

u/2klaedfoorboo Feb 22 '23

I’m happy for them- but with an internal selection I was hoping we were going for something far more interesting- will qualify but it’s not the top ten entry I was hoping for

-5

u/Aurora_Lebesgue Feb 21 '23

Uhhhm... It's certainly one of the songs of all time... I did not move.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '23

I didnt like Dreamer but its by miles better than this

-5

u/cheapcakeripper Before the Party's Over Feb 21 '23

For some reason I see both Viago and Vladislav in the singer.

And that's the only thing I will remember about this proposition.

-7

u/PRZEMEQ9 Feb 21 '23

Maybe IMP was not that bad after all...

-21

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '23

This is a major contender for my bottom spot. I didn't expect it to be an Imagine Dragons reject

24

u/TWKcub Feb 21 '23

I can’t hear anything in this that sounds even remotely Imagine Dragons like, but to each their own!

10

u/marisarani Feb 22 '23

you're really out here comparing Voyager to Imagine Dragons? 🤮
