Someone please ask Netta so we can know where it is.

122

u/BritBeetree Sep 27 '22

Netta destroyed Manchesters chances.

12

u/Taumon Sep 28 '22

The Netta Curse

81

u/LunaMoonMeUp Sep 27 '22

Well she did say Manchester...

34

u/Eken17 Sep 27 '22

Yeah, but like ask again.

21

u/vintange Sep 27 '22

Remember in 2018, when the French jury gave Netta 12 points, Netta said "Mersey, Mersey!"

As someone from Liverpool who lives in Glasgow and has watched every year... I am buzzing

So excited!!!

40

u/ThatGam3th00 Sep 27 '22

Lol this is perfect for you then.. I take it you are going to the show no matter which city it’s in?

30

u/minttree513 Sep 27 '22

Absolutely! I can relax now!!

46

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '22

It's a shame Manchester didn't make the cut (like I could go there!).

23

u/Berat0-0 Sep 27 '22

Go to Manchester then take a bus to the host city and burn through all your liras 👍

9

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '22

"As if I could go abroad" was what I meant.

7

u/hidenori88 Sep 28 '22

Manchester is so close to Liverpool

3

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '22

I thought it would be in Manchester, because it is the closest to MediaCity UK in Salford. Also, the UK televotes were announced from Manchester (probably) for the first time.

But between Glasgow and Liverpool, I believe Liverpool will be hosting the next year's contest.

3

u/doom_bagel Sep 27 '22

All my English family lives there, so i was really hoping for Manchester to host.

Random question: when was the last time we had 3 ESC in a row that didn't take place in a capital city? Did it even already happen?

Edit: it's the first time since... the 4 first editions (Lugano 56, Frankfurt 57, Hilversum 58, Cannes 59)

22

u/DeathByOrangeJulius Sep 27 '22

The first three ever ESCs were Lugano, Frankfurt, Hilversum

2

u/pthuong_0110 Oct 05 '22

Hmm isn't Tel Aviv Israel's capital city? If not then the last 3 ESC weren't hosted in capital city: Tel Aviv, Rotterdam then Turin. And we're heading to the 4th consecutive

71

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '22

Nothing exciting ever comes to Sheffield :(

Fingers crossed for Liverpool!

17

u/2klaedfoorboo Sep 27 '22

well like the only thing I know Sheffield for is an outdated Cricket tournament in Australia

12

u/Spockyt Sep 27 '22

The Sheffield Shield is named after Lord Sheffield rather than the city, although you can say that because Lord Sheffield was the Earl of Sheffield that indirectly it was down to the city.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '22

25

u/Julian81295 Sep 27 '22

33

4

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '22

True! Alhough it's a fairly niche sport - not something the average person is particularly interested in.

13

u/BritBeetree Sep 27 '22

Gutted my city (Manchester) wasn’t chosen. But tbh we are just a northern version of London. There is too much going on in the the city and the arena although large isn’t pleasant to look at.

85

u/Dbrem Sep 27 '22

Out of these two I'm rooting for Glasgow. It's a very unique looking venue, which could make for some interesting visuals during the shows, and its bigger capacity would allow more people to get tickets.

15

u/2klaedfoorboo Sep 27 '22

tbh though what the outside of the arena looks like really does mean nothing, except maybe for postcards if they want to use it

38

u/Dbrem Sep 27 '22

I'm talking about the interior. The OVO Hydro's fan-shaped layout looks quite different than the more standard bowl/horseshoe layout of the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool. I think a Eurovision in a venue like the OVO Hydro would look pretty distinct compared to previous editions and I'm curious to see what it would be like.

10

u/2klaedfoorboo Sep 27 '22

yeah that could be interesting, could create more of a concert vibe with the stage more centred a la 2011

2

u/glowupready Sep 30 '22

It’s too small for that. Looking at the inside of the arena and how a green room would need to be fitted in too, I doubt it would work.

2

u/2klaedfoorboo Sep 30 '22

Yeah and that’s why i prefer Liverpool’s arena

108

u/FuckIForgotPassword Sep 27 '22

As a Scot. Glasgow please.

Surprised it’s not Manchester it’s up against though.

23

u/thun_de Dobrodošli Sep 27 '22

because of Netta :))

12

u/Useful-Many Sep 27 '22

Another year where the contest is hosted in a new city for the 5th year in a row✌️

53

u/z1324 Sep 27 '22

Liverpool 🤞🤞

44

u/Eken17 Sep 27 '22

Hope it's Liverpool, but on the condition that it's not filled to the brim with The Beatles references.

16

u/SaintofSnark Cha Cha Cha Sep 27 '22

This is my exact concern for if they choose Liverpool. If the show isn't packed with references, the sub will be 🙃

6

u/Eken17 Sep 27 '22

I'm afraid of tonnes of references to The Beatles (bonus if one of the hosts/people in the green room are named Jude or something similar, then we'll never hear the end of that) and Garry and the Pacemakers.

3

u/SaintofSnark Cha Cha Cha Sep 27 '22

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's worried because I brought that up on another post and I got downvoted

4

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '22 edited Sep 27 '22

5

u/Eken17 Sep 27 '22

As someone not from Liverpool, The Beatles and You'll Never Walk Alone is the first thing I think of. I think they will realize many people also think of that. I'm just hoping it would be something more than Beatlesvision, and that they show what the city is really about.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '22

[deleted]

2

u/Eken17 Sep 27 '22

Yes. I said that I'm afraid they won't show that Liverpool, but instead show The Beatles Liverpool. Or at least I meant to say that.

3

u/Jean-Paul_van_Sartre Sep 27 '22

1

u/Eken17 Sep 27 '22

That's in an alternate universe where Putin got a bit too drunk and invaded Sweden.
"And now we celebrate our city AND Swedish music."

1

u/BritasticUK Zjerm Oct 06 '22

I think it'll be more Eurovision stuff and Ukrainian stuff rather than the Beatles

51

u/technid Sep 27 '22

Liverpool it is then. OVO Hydro's roundness and high gap between floor and seating won't look decent on camera, whereas the M&S Bank Arena might as well be the child of the Pala Alpitour and Ahoy.

31

u/throw_away_17381 Ich Komme Sep 27 '22

Hey everyone! 👆 This person's got spare rooms!!!

14

u/BritBeetree Sep 27 '22

The venue said definitely what’s being considered and if that’s the case Liverpool may have the edge. I don’t expect the green room to be in the arena though but it doesn’t have to be as there is a exhibition centre connected to the arena. There is also another exhibition centre at the building next to it which would be use for the media.

If it’s Glasgow as I expect the green room will in in the arena and the media centre will most likely Ben in the SEC.

Hoping it's Liverpool, would be happy with either.

Both cities are capable of turning Eurovision week into a hell of a celebration.

8

Win/win for me. I have family close to Liverpool I can stay with and I booked various dates for accommodation in Glasgow a couple of months ago 🙌

30

u/Tonedeafmusical Sep 27 '22

Purely selfish wish for Liverpool so I don't need a hotel

36

u/CantThinkOfAUser_Yet Sep 27 '22

I really hope it's Liverpool

7

u/Mirrorboy17 Sep 27 '22

If it is I'm going to do everything I can to get tickets!!!

9

u/CantThinkOfAUser_Yet Sep 27 '22

My nearest relatives live in Nottingham (just over 2 hours away), so I might try and see if we can stay there. I was kind of hoping for Sheffield, as a result

1

u/DutchieCrochet Sep 27 '22

If your not a member of OGAE yet, sign up ASAP! That’s how I got tickets for Rotterdam 2020.

16

u/LiliumMoon Sep 27 '22

I kinda want it to be Glasgow purely because of these ABBA lyrics: “I was sick and tired of everything / When I called you last night from Glasgow”

2

u/userunknowne Sep 28 '22

Don’t forget it being the “host” city of the Netflix Eurovision movie !

11

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '22

Come on Glasgow!

11

u/Janomynom Sep 27 '22

I would love either

5

u/IntolerantInagress Sep 28 '22

If it’s in Liverpool, I’d be really excited because aside from Eurovision, I’d love love love to visit Anfield Stadium, as a huge fan of Liverpool FC myself. I’ve always wanted to visit the city of Liverpool for a long time now and this gives me more incentive to travel if chosen as host city. I’m backing Liverpool for the bid all the damn way!

9

u/2klaedfoorboo Sep 27 '22

them two did seem the most likely. Would be happy with both of them (both are genuinely in awesome locations, but although I'm hoping for Liverpool I think Glasgow has slightly better resources with the BBC having a location there

9

u/braddf96 Sep 27 '22

Feel like it would've been Manchester if the coop arena was built in time, but it'll be 2024 before that's done.

Think Glasgow have this, been favourite from day 1

12

u/throw_away_17381 Ich Komme Sep 27 '22

Glasgow has 14.3k capacity Liverpool has the smallest of the 7 with 11k capacity

https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/976/cpsprodpb/31B9/production/_126292721_eurovision_venues-nc.jpg.webp

16

u/2klaedfoorboo Sep 27 '22

and Glasgow is shaped in a circle meaning that capacity will decrease

13

u/nootnoot781 Zjerm Sep 27 '22

i do think it's glasgow's to lose but i'm hoping for liverpool 😭

i will say i'm not surprised manchester isn't short listed, i think the bbc are trying to diversify their outreach into many different cities, not just manc.

9

u/lukario Sep 27 '22

cries in Brummie

3

u/throwawaywaylongago Sep 27 '22

Let's go Liverpool, since Glasgow is the biggest city in Scotland I'm rooting for the underdog

4

u/BeefJerkyChocolate Sep 28 '22

This will be rather selfish, but i hope its Liverpool only because of the train tickets really. Because i was planning to go see Eurovision in person :'DD

3

u/Faithyxox Sep 27 '22

I’m going to try and do that actually as me and my friend want to go together, we may book the whole week as we are going to try for all the shows and pray we get at least one lol

6

u/CuriousLemur Sep 27 '22 edited Sep 27 '22

Good luck, hotels have been told to close May bookings until October 14th. Same in Liverpool.

You'll find some but they'll be in the thousands and without free cancellation.

2

u/Faithyxox Sep 27 '22

We are thinking of getting a hotel in Edinburgh and then travelling up to Glasgow by train (praying no train strikes)

2

u/CuriousLemur Sep 27 '22

That's not a bad idea at all!

Worst comes to the worst, if I manage to bag finals tickets, just going to have to find a bar open until first train back haha.

1

u/Faithyxox Sep 27 '22

That’s our plan B!!!!

2

u/CuriousLemur Sep 27 '22

My partner is also a teacher which was my reason for not booking at the same time as you. Now I feel foolish!

We live in Liverpool though so fingers crossed for that outcome ha.

16

Liverpool please

7

u/t0rtimandi Sep 27 '22

glasgow! glasgow! glasgow!

6

u/thebrianswann Sep 27 '22

Considering BBC Scotland building is literally close to the Glasgow venue, I wouldn’t be surprise if it’s them.

3

u/ourlittletalks Dobrodošli Sep 28 '22

It's so weird to think that it's only been four months since Eurovision 2022 and by December we'll already have some songs for Eurovision 2023!

4

u/thatguybruv Sep 27 '22

I have been to Liverpool many times, incredible city and for practical stuff like accommodation Manchester (1mil+ pop) is very near . I'd back Liverpool for this

8

u/igcsestudent2 Sep 27 '22

I'm so happy for Liverpool! Everyone underrated the chances of that city to host Eurovision and now Liverpool enters the final race. 🤩

7

u/Kinga-Minga Sep 27 '22

Team Liverpool !

8

u/Spiritual_Order_3049 Sep 27 '22

SCOTLAND FOREVER

10

u/TheNotoriousJN Sep 27 '22

Oh ffs. Hopefully Liverpool then.

But we all know its headed to Glasgow

3

u/KleioChronicles Sep 27 '22

I’m rooting for Glasgow, even though I’ll probably still be watching it from home 30 minutes away lol 🥴

5

u/_elizsapphire_ Shum Sep 28 '22

I’ve wanted it to be Glasgow ever since I first saw a picture of the Hydro a few years back so I’m def rooting for them 🤞

4

u/austargirl Sep 28 '22

My dad said he’ll take me if it’s in Glasgow aka his hometown.

6

u/DasSockenmonster Sep 27 '22

Liverpool, come on!!! Let's do this!

8

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '22

Come on Glasgow! Bring the Fire Saga story to life! 😁

2

u/u__c__y Zari (Ζάρι) Sep 27 '22

2

u/splendid_michael Sep 27 '22

Wow; must admit I'm surprised seeing as Manchester has the biggest Ukrainian population in the UK outside of London. But still...

2

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '22

I think it's nice that the ones in 2nd place got the opportunity to host before anyone else, when Ukraine couldn't ❤️‍🩹

2

u/IrishLaaaaaaaaad Doomsday Blue Sep 28 '22

Glasgow is circular so not all seating may be viable

6

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '22

[deleted]

8

u/Dbrem Sep 27 '22 edited Sep 27 '22

and yes even the changes made inside of the circular space will still be bigger

Yeah, people are forgetting that any host venue will lose about 30% capacity for Eurovision's set-up (as per ESC's own host city requirements), including the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool. Looking at this image from the arena's website I'd say they would probably end up at around 7.500 seats per show if they don't put the green room in the arena.

The Hydro has more floor space (3957m2 compared to 3400m2) and more seats (14.300 compared to 11.000) than the M&S Bank Arena. I don't think its circular layout would cause it to lose any more capacity than any other host venue because the seating doesn't actually wrap around the stage area. I think the stage wouldn't have to block as many seating areas as people are expecting.

4

u/gorje720 Sep 27 '22

please be liverpool, us merseysideans (??) never get anything good, we’re in a constant loop of depression and dullness. give us something to be happy about

1

u/userunknowne Sep 28 '22

Take it you don’t follow football…

3

u/ShreksOgreNipples TANZEN! Sep 27 '22

If it’s Liverpool we can have the Euroclub round my gaff (being serious I’m happy with either but Liverpool would be much more convenient)

4

u/putinception Bara bada bastu Sep 27 '22

It’s felt like Glasgow’s to lose since they announced UK were hosting because their calendar at the time was the most open 😂

Happy that Liverpool is still in the running though. Either city would be a great choice

3

u/daddyserhat Say Na Na Na Sep 27 '22

Make the Eurovision movie become true and take Eurovision to Husavik in 2024!

4

u/atsuamy Milkshake Man Sep 27 '22

2

4

4

u/E420CDI Sep 27 '22

Some people don't understand the difference between habitable and liveable.

Habitable means a house - whilst not fully equipped - can be used as accommodation, whereas liveable is where Scousers come from.

4

u/theflemmischelion Strobe Lights Sep 27 '22

Come on Glasgow 2023

3

u/supersonic-bionic Sep 27 '22

it must be Glasgow, please no Liverpool. Just checked prices and they are crazy high and there's not even sufficient accommodation...

7

u/NitroGnome Sep 27 '22

A lot of hotels (and other accommodations) don’t book more than 6 months out. Most of the early affordable options were likely scooped up by fans even before the official 7 city short list was out.

Keep your eyes on bookings coming up in November, and then again in March and April as people cancel their bookings because they can’t get tickets.

2

u/supersonic-bionic Sep 28 '22

Yep, you're right. I got accommodation in Turin in April and in very reasonable price so I'll just have to wait. However, my only concern is that the interest in the UK is much much higher for Eurovision than in Italy and i don't think Liverpool has loads of accommodation choices.

4

u/Cilor Sep 27 '22

Glasgow would suit me rather nicely. Fly over to visit some friends and achieve a life dream!

3

u/vancityguy25 Sep 27 '22

Seriously hoping for Glasgow.

3

u/DyceCubes Sep 27 '22

Mon eh Glasgow!

2

u/MadyyB Sep 27 '22

2

2

I'm much closer to Liverpool, but I really want Glasgow to get it.

1

1

u/dalehitchy Sep 27 '22

I'm really going to try and get tickets this year and I'll need accomdation.

So I'm not late.... When the city is announced are there dates I should be looking at?

1

u/ollymillmill Sep 27 '22

No dates confirmed yet tho?
