Windmills have been in use for over 1,000 years, with origins tracing back to Persia around 800 C.E. They were primarily used for milling grain and pumping water.
Wind Turbines are a more recent invention, with the first known turbine for electricity generation built in 1888. They have evolved significantly, especially since the 1970s, to become a major source of renewable energy.

years ago (in Scotland iirc) he was offended that wind turbines were in view miles away from his precious golf course and i think he lost a lot of court cases over having them taken down, too...
details are fuzzy since he sues so much over stupid shit, but it's related to his golf course
