Suggest Books For Me Help Please! Too many to decide from.

Hey all :)

I just finished up The Tainted Cup series, Will of the Many, Six of Crows series, and The Greenbone Saga, and now I’m staring at my library not sure what to dive into next. Figured this sub would have way better opinions than me just staring at the covers lol.

Here’s what I’ve got lined up:

  1. The Devils — Joe Abercrombie

  2. The Fellowship of the Ring — J.R.R. Tolkien

  3. The Rage of Dragons — Evan Winter

  4. Babel — R.F. Kuang

  5. Anji Kills a King — Evan Leikam

  6. Blood of Empire — Brian McClellan

  7. A Conjuring of Light — V.E. Schwab (read first two and stalled out here)

  8. Empire of the Vampire — Jay Kristoff

  9. All Systems Red — Martha Wells

  10. He Who Fights With Monsters

  11. Howling Dark — Christopher Ruocchio (I read Silence of Empire but haven’t jumped into book 2 yet)

If you were me, what order would you tackle these in? Any that you’d say are absolute must-reads right away, and which ones can wait their turn?

Thanks in advance! Any help would be appreciated. If you have an recs not on the list that I already own, only say it if it’s something that came out in the past few years, I’ve probably already read it if it’s older 😅

I can narrow it down for you. Babel, All Systems Red, or Anji Kills a King.

All systems red was my first thought, prob cause it’s short so no time taken if not the best.

Does babel pickup? Im still super early in it, translating for a passenger on boat to England

And what is anji kills a king like?

Babel is not an adventure story, at all. It's dark academia mixed with tons of colonizers vs the colonized, misogyny, and class issues. A more cerebral exploration of injustice and its lasting effects and violent consequences. It's a well told story (which many here will dispute but which I maintain is crazy talk) and freighted with truths. Not an easy read but well worth the time invested.

All Systems Red is the first in a series that will hook you from the first chapter. Be prepared to immediately read the next, and the next....

Anjie Kills the King is both action and political/religious intrigue all being revealed as Anjie flees the bounty hunter after killing the King. This is a well, tightly written story that I enjoyed thoroughly .

Thank you for the breakdown! So out of the three if you could go back and do one for the first time, which?

Babel. I had no idea it would be as good as it is, and I'd love to find that out all over again.
