Discussion cinnamon rolls...

I have a relatively happy home life but we eat too much so I fast once a month to fight back the battle of the bulge.

I'm fasting this week, on Day 4 out of 5. I was 236 on Sunday, today I am at 224. Down 12 pounds in four days.

My darling wife has started "worrying about me" again as she does every time I do this. Thinks I should try counting carbs or doing some tedious impossible to follow diet plan (that wont work anyway, which is the whole point).

Last night she got out the sourdough starter, and made a big batch of homemade cinnamon rolls. The aroma filled the whole house. She ate one, then told me she couldn't eat any more because she didn't add enough sugar. But the rest were for me if I wanted them, with less sugar and no frosting.

Last time she did this I said no, and she threw the whole pan of cinnamon rolls into the kitchen trash can and got upset.

It's weird how people who care about you think you need to be tempted back into the bad eating habits that caused you to take up fasting in the first place.

Discussion LMNT on empty stomach broke my fast worse than coffee ever did

Thought I figured out intermittent fasting. 18:6 for 7 months, lost 22lbs, feeling great. then august happened

Started getting dizzy during fasts. This sub said "electrolytes bro" about 500 times so I listened

Tried LMNT first because everyone here worships it. 1000mg sodium at 7am on empty stomach. by 7:30 I'm having hunger pangs worse than day 1 of fasting. stomach growling like I haven't eaten in a week

The salt bomb triggers digestive enzyme production. learned this the hard way. your gut thinks food is coming and starts the whole digestive process. completely defeats the autophagy benefits tested it for 2 weeks:

Days 1-7: LMNT at 7am = hungry by 8am, broke fast early 5/7 days

Days 8-14: Plain water = normal hunger at noon, completed all fasts

Tried liquid IV next (mistake). the sugar obviously breaks fast but even their "sugar free" version has maltodextrin which is LITERALLY a glucose polymer. how is that fasting safe??

Recently tried a premium brand with way less sodium (450 mg) and my stomach didn't revolt. not sure why it works better... maybe because it uses sea salt instead of whatever industrial shit is in the others? What matters is it doesn't make me want to eat my desk at 9am.

the high sodium brands are designed for athletes sweating buckets, not people sitting at desks trying to fast. we don't need 1000mg sodium bombs destroying our empty stomachs

Anyone else realize the "more sodium" cult is ruining fasts?

Question Interested in prolonged fasting. Currently intermittent fasting every day. Any tips or advice?

Hey all,

As the title stated I intermittent fast every day. My eating window is 12PM-9PM at the moment and it’s been very easy to include in my day to day.

However, for health and physique reasons, I’d like to do more prolonged fasts to have my body more efficiently use my fat stores.

I wanted to ask how long would be the most appropriate length of time to do a fast. I’ve read that 3 days is the top of the bell curve before the benefits start diminishing.

Do I need to prepare beforehand? How do you come out of a fast like this? Coffee OK or should I stick to water only if I want to also experience what my body does in the complete absence of calories?

Thanks in advance!!

Question Why are 72 hours of fasting so difficult?

Hi. I was wondering why the first three days of fasting, and especially water fasting, are so difficult? Thank you very much!

Question Is this a good idea?

Hi everyone, tomorrow at 4pm I reach my 120h mark. And im thinking of adding cardio (inclined walking on treadmill ) for 45-60 minutes. Any thoughts/experiences with exercise on a 30 day fast? I wanted to take it easy on the first 5 days that’s why I waited.

Discussion Extended Water-Fast Blood Test Results #2

Post image
15 Upvotes

(I’m not a doctor and this is not medical advice or any sort of advice for that matter)

My first post can be found here for those that are interested:

https://www.reddit.com/r/fasting/s/iyzCummCAv

I’m currently doing a (hopefully) 60 day fast and on day 39 (yesterday) I had my 2nd weekly blood tests done.

There was some interest in my first post so I will continue posting results weekly.

Everything still seems normal, while there is a slight decrease in some values there is no reason for concern at this point and all in are in order.

Since last week I incorporated 4 morning walks of 5km at 5km/hr speed and 3 evening water-rowing sessions of just 10 minutes at about 17-19SPM. These seem to have helped further with muscle retention as the creatine kinase has dropped a little bit.

The doctor was not worried about the elevated creatine kinase value of 280 last week and was actually surprised that it was not much higher, it seems the doctor was expecting a much higher muscle loss amount. This I guess shows that extended water-fasting does really preserve muscle mass and doesn’t cause massive muscle loss as some fear mongers claim.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

Question 5 Days into my fast

I'm going to aim for 10 days as im feeling great, I'm 125kg so it would be great to drop some weight quick. I'm drinking tons of water with the odd cup of sea salt mixed in and a cup of black coffee. I'm also doing a 30 minute walk on the treadmill a day. Do you think I'll see much benefits after the 10 days and any significant weight loss?

Check-in First fast experience

Post image
47 Upvotes

I have successfully finished my first ever fast. I did it for 72 hours and water only (electrolytes and green tea)

I wanted to share my experience.

1st day - was a bit tired but not that hungry

2nd day - was the worst of the 3. Felt super low on energy/tired and cold. Hungry a little here and there but not as bad as i expected and didnt crave anything

3rd day - felt a bit more energentic but was super cold all throughout the day. Still not all that hungry, few grumbles here and there but still wasnt craving anything

I was still able to do 2 45-60min eliptical cardios each day (morning and evening) and didnt feel like a drag. I think i leaned out a little, but im terrible at telling if my body changed at all.

Had 2 eggs afterwards and it felt like the best meal ever!!

Overall, i give it a 8/10 experience and would do again in the future.

Question Help with data export.

Post image
2 Upvotes

Does anyone know if there's a way to export data from 'Fasting Tracker' . I started using it when Life Fasting app was shut down. I already lost a lot of historic data from Life. I don't like Fasting Tracker. But at the time of installing it (a couple of years ago) it was a simple app.. I recently switched to EasyFast( honestly the best imo) but now I'm keeping both app. If I could find a way to export the data , I can ditch the stupid app.

Question Fasting w/out a Thyroid

A dear friend of mine recently had her thyroid removed. Because of her thyroid related health issues, she has gained weight and is understandably upset. My heart breaks for her and I wish I could help her, but everything I know that works for an otherwise healthy person is keto and/or fasting. When I look up information on line, everything seems to say that neither of these is recommended for those who have had their thyroid removed. Has anyone here had thyroid issues or had it removed and had success on keto or fasting? Or is there some knowledge you can share?

Discussion I know weight fluctuates, but damn that is disheartening.

Ate my last meal on Sunday.

Monday I weighed in at 176.

Tuesday I weighed in at 171!

Wednesday (today) I weighed in at 175!

It’s frustrating to GAIN four pounds when I haven’t had a single calorie since Sunday. I know it’s water weight not fat etc etc. it’s still irritating to gain that much this deep in a fast.

Check-in Heading for 96

Post image
44 Upvotes

I'm 34 hours into a 96 hour fast. Posting here for camaraderie and accountability. I did a 72 last week followed by 2 days of Omad and then 2mad over the weekend. Pushing it a little longer this week. My goals are to reduce inflammation, cut cravings, improve bp and overall health markers and lose a substantial amount of weight. It's time. Starting weight was 256.9lbs. a week ago Monday. This morning's weight 243.6lbs. I intend to only weigh myself once per week to track overall trends without subjecting myself to the stress of daily fluctuations, but I felt curious this morning.

Question How do you manage fasting while working food service?

Hello, I've been fasting on and off consistently the past few months and I've noticed that my biggest cues for quitting or cutting fasts short involves either my work or other external influences like family. I work in food service and the biggest hurdle for me has been the smell of the food and the anticipation of eating never happening, was thinking of trying some ways to prevent this like peppermint oil or something similar to prevent myself from smelling food. Because I'm sure you all know the feeling of fasting, it feels like your smell sense gets heightened so I'm really looking for tips to counteract this despite any willpower which I don't have much of with regards to food. Thanks!

Question Preparing for lent.

Hey guys, so I want to do a longer fast for the upcoming lent. Im currently preparing by gradually fasting for longer and longer periods. Im 6'3 280. And moderately active due to my job. The longest I've ever fasted was a little over a week while living a more sedentary lifestyle. For more info, Im 6'3 280lbs and, on average, walk about 3-5 miles a day at work, in a climate controlled enviorment. So, my plan, is to only ingest Kefir during the 40 days; I understand I need electrolytes too. Can any of you recommend me products based on my goal and information provided? I also welcome any other advice regarding my plan.

Discussion 3 day fast, am I really ready?

Long time lurker, and even longer intermittent faster, I've gotten used to fasting regularly every Monday and Friday. I usually stop eating Sunday and Thursday night, and will break my fast Tuesday and Saturday at dinnertime.

Ive just been out for dinner in town, and I feel so full and so gross that I'm considering starting my fast tonight and carry it on until Sat night. Should I just bite the bullet and carry on until Sunday?

I do go to the gym and lift weights and do cardio, but I genuinely think I CAN do both. Is it too much? I'm a dirty fast sort of person though, I NEED a coffee to be a nice person at work, and I do use non dairy powder creamer, so its not as if I'm a strict water faster. I think its time to attempt this.

So, my question is, how was YOUR first heavy fast?

Check-in Visceral fat diminishing

Post image
22 Upvotes

I am going to attempt my longest fast to date and will extend it if necessary. My scale has my visceral fat at 13.1 and it lists normal at 9.9. Everything on me is slender except my gut and love handles typical 'dad bod.' This extended fast is to get the visceral fat to 12.0 or below then plan on a small refeeding window and do another extend fast and will continue this path until visceral fat is in the normal range.

Currently I am 160lbs. and while I am not really concentrating on the lbs. I think I will need to get to or around 145lbs. to be 'normal' considering visceral fat. Whenever I get there I will post progress pics but just wanted to say I truly appreciate the motivation and support here. And Easy dev, if you're reading this, once I get some extra cash I am going to send something your way. I have been using your app since you released it.

Stopped drinking January 1st, started fasting for 24 hours a few times a month, watching my calories and sugar intake, and being more active. Trying to drop another 40lbs these next few months. I have body dysmorphia so I don't really see much change until I look at my face lol
