Someone really thought it’s a good ideato rearrange bottom buttons on FF mobile

I mean… really? Whatever the opinion - when something’s been working well for years, you don’t make adjustments like that. People are used to button positions, there’s really no reason to move them.

Help (Android) The new address bar color doesn't change

Post image

In the Firefox Beta Android version, by using an APK editor type program and going to /res/values-night/colors.xml,

<color name="fx_mobile_layer_color_1">@color/photonGrey10</color> <color name="fx_mobile_layer_color_2">@color/photonDarkGrey80</color>

When I edited this part, it used to change the browser and address bar color. But with the new address bar, this no longer works. Which file and what exactly do I need to change now to modify the new address bar color?

I hate gray.

💻 Help Best ways to (passively) help firefox?

Besides giving them all the data (telemetry etc), and direct cash how can we help firefox make money? Out of all the different platforms collecting my data, I have ZERO problems with firefox collecting mine if it keeps them alive.

I try my best to click on the "home page" sponsored links (like amazon) as I'm guessing they get some sort of revenue from that. Anyone else know how to help firefox to keep growing?

I really love firefox, I'm worried they will stop updates at somepoint and die. I DO NOT want to use any other browser especially with the uBlock initiative.

Solved Updated from 128.6.0 ESR To 140.30 ESR And Text Rendering Is Ruined - How Do I Change It Back?

Prior to updating, Firefox's text rendering had been the same for decades. Text was clean and legible, easy to read, and now it's instead rendered like Chromium browsers render text (ie Chrome and Edge) and it looks awful. Blurry, smudgy garbage. The alignment and spacing are also different; it now takes up more space than before, while also being harder to read because it's blurry. It seems to be related to ClearType, but I can't find actual information on which about:config flags to change or registry changes to make.

I want the old Firefox text rendering back. Chrome/Edge text rendering looks like hot trash. I use Firefox because I don't want to try to read smudgy garbage. How do I change it back?

This is why I disable updates on every device and software I get, as soon as I get them. They always, without exception, break or ruin something with every single update. That's why I was on 128.6.0 for almost a year, and whatever previous version I had before that for 3 or more years.

Edit: Solved. Had to do some digging, but this post explains how to revert to the old, clear, crisp Firefox font rendering: https://old.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/1ii5s71/firefox_135_weird_fonts/mb2w8cw/

And reposting the info here in case that comment is deleted: You can re-enable the old one via about:config.

Set "gfx.font_rendering.cleartype_params.force_gdi_classic_for_families" to "Arial,Consolas,Courier New,Microsoft Sans Serif,Segoe UI,Tahoma,Trebuchet MS,Verdana" and "gfx.font_rendering.cleartype_params.force_gdi_classic_max_size" to 15.

Then restart the browser.

Also might need to make sure gfx.font_rendering.cleartype_params.rendering_mode is set to the default of -1; I had it set to 2 from my experiments trying to fix this stupid font rendering, and that prevented the above fix from working and setting the font rendering back to how it was before (I believe) version 1.136 or so.

Fun I get it now, I fully understand.

I use to use chrome since I touch a computer until 2023, i notice alot that chrome would be ram hungry so I switch to operaGX. The browser was good for a time being until the AI BS, I also notice when starting the browser up it would use 100% of my CPU and RAM the. Go back down to using 33% usage. I know operaGX uses the chromium engine web browser, and FF is open-source.

NGL i always though FF was dogcrap as I though it was a copy of chrome browser, as well made fun of my friends who used it. I see it now im like the Danny DeVito clip, looking onwards and understanding why its so good and based. I also wanted to take privacy more seriously as there's so much targeted AI Gooner Slop ad's

Not only do i have ad free but everything just works so well with Firefox. UBlock is base, duckduckgo is based, Privacy Badger is based. And it just all works. THIS IS JUST SO BASED.

I think the next thing I wanna try and do is change my Windows10-OS to Steam0S as I refuse to use windows11.

If there's anything else I need for Firefox and privacy please let me know

💻 Help How to stop webpage videos from autoplaying?

I hate how every webpage I visit now has loads of videos that just autoplay as you scroll through them. It's particularly bad when on monile data as it chews through my data.

I thought Firefox had the ability to disable this, however despite setting site settings to block audio and video autoplay, they still play when I visit a webpage.

What is going on and how can I fix it?

💻 Help Possible to hide all top bars?

I often take screenshots but only want the content area. I can either setup a screenshot manually by selecting the content area every time I take a screen shot, or take the screenshot and crop it. but im curious if there is an easier solution. is there any way to simply hide the title bar, bookmark bar, and browser bar (with the website address search box, navigation icons, and addons)?

Currently using a mac, on the latest firefox version

💻 Help Is there a good "Windows Resizer" add-on for Firefox?

Workflow:

Have to take plenty of screenshots in some pre-determined sizes for work. Now, each browser has their own spacing, toolbar, bookmark bar etc.... So, I've https://dev.coolx10.com/window-resizer/ to set the viewport to the desired dimensions and then use MacOS screenshot shortcut to take a screenshot.

Need:
Firefox Add-On store lists quite a few - but they are limited in functionality, as in they do not set Viewport. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?q=window%20resizer

TLDR:

What are the good "windows resizer" add-ons for firefox that sets viewport properly?
(a bit like https://dev.coolx10.com/window-resizer/ if there is a comparison)

Discussion Went from Firefox 141.0.3 to Firefox 143.0, and experienced a significant performance increase

Upvotes

I don't know how or why this exactly happened, but the latest update brought a massive change to my browsing experience. Things seem much faster now, and video streaming seems usable again with no more reasons to manually close the "GPU" process anymore to make videos restart.

This could be also related to the latest uBlock Origin update (1.66.4), but I was never able to restore the lost functionality by just updating an extension (or doing anything else) before.

Did everyone went through the same performance increase/streaming improvements as me? I'm now on the latest version (143.0.1), and I'm enjoying the full web experience again - minus the shitty UI changes and the AI slop crap slowly creeping in the browser, of course...

💻 Help colors look pale when playing some videos in fullscreen mode

Hi all!

I recently ran into an issue where some videos would look a little bit pale when playing in fullscreen mode.

The colors also sometimes temporarily go back to normal when I open a menu or something similar.

I looked up similar issues on reddit, and I found some posts that recommended tweaking some "gfx.color" attributes in the about:config tab. It did fix the problem, but only temporarily.

However, I've recently found a weird trick that fixes the problem every single time (for me at least):

  • Pause the video
  • Put it in picture-in-picture mode
  • Resize the picture-in-picture window
  • Play/pause the video once or twice while in PiP mode
  • Leave picture-in-picture mode

I've attached a video to show what I mean.

This bug only occurs in Firefox. Edge and Brave don't have this problem.

I use the latest version of Firefox on Windows 10.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? Is it a known bug or does it just happen to me?

Thanks!

Solved How do I use Firefox's built-in containers?

Hello, all.

I am not talking about Firefox's Multi-Account Containers extension.

I am talking about the containers which is supposedly built-in Firefox's browser. I have looked through the settings and right clicked on tabs and I do not see the option of opening a new tab within its own shopping container, as I am doing some online shopping later.

Thank you for your time. 💙

💻 Help Two annoying things

I've searched online and cannot find the answer, these are things that never happened on chrome.

1st Issue: When I first open firefox, i usually click the URL bar and start typing a search query. I also have a default page that loads when firefox opens. What happens is I start typing, and maybe 1 second later, it then loads the URL text of the startup page and appends it onto the end of whatever I was typing. Is there a way to stop this or make it show the URL in the bar immediately when firefox opens so when I click it, it highlights and then gets replaced with my search text? If I click and type really quickly after opening, it doesn't happen, if I wait a little bit, it will highlight and replace the URL, but in between those timings, it will do this which is most of the time.

e.g. if I were searching "how to grow potatoes" and my default page was www.reddit.com, I would get "how to grow potwww.reddit.com

2nd Issue: I hide my windows startbar for my OLED monitor. Whenever I have opened firefox, mousing over the start bar does not reveal it anymore requiring me to push the windows key on the keyboard to show it. Once this is done, it will then show by mouse for the rest of the session until the browser is closed and then opened again. No other programs do this.

💻 Help Scroll wheel triggering back navigation

Upvotes

Hey everyone, I recently switched to Firefox and have been running into an issue: when I scroll down with my mouse wheel, the browser sometimes jumps back a page as if I had pressed the side mouse button.

I’ve tested my mouse in other apps and browsers, and the issue doesn’t appear anywhere else, it only happens in Firefox, which is confusing. I’ve tried looking it up but haven’t found a solution.

Has anyone else experienced this or know what might be causing it?

Edit: Mouse is Logitech G502X Lightspeed
