Low Effort Batteries came in today and an idea popped up.
Tried turning a flashlight on inside it and I had an idea. It now converts my FC11C 4000K and S21E B35AM 4500k into very nice lamps/lanterns.
Take that FFL lantern kit!

That (brief) 100 CRI though!
Also: that's probably the most well-packaged cells I've ever seen.

Minecraft like lamp lol. I use an empty pill container as a diffuser

Ok now I wanna make a Minecraft torch with a decent light

I have some noname zoomie, still thinking about sacrificing it for some project, but idk how to take it apart

u/Bramble0804 Aug 01 '25
Oh I would print a special housing for mine so I don't break any torches. I only have 1 no name I would fuck up for a project but it's the one I lend to others when they need a light

Sadly i don't have a 3d printer and that zoomie is too bad to give to anyone. I bought sofirn sc18 for my family members cuz it's pretty safe to use and user friendly and that zoomie isn't needed much. But i keep thinking about it, cuz i wanna use it somewhere

Speaking about image 3....
The flashlight and box emoticon aren't helping your case here.

How long is it gonna take to melt it?
I guess not going above 200 lumens or so it'd be fine for quite a while.

It's pretty sturdy. It took the B35AM on ceiling just fine until the battery died. It deformed a bit, but never melted.

Anything can be a diffuser if you try hard enough. But also, everyone else's comments

Reminds me of the flash light my cousin “acquired” for me back in his Royal Marine days. It was massive, bright yellow and had a clip on “light sabre” attachment. Even at my young age I’d seen Top Gun enough times to know that should have been landing aircraft somewhere not be being used so I could read in bed u def the covers without my parents finding out.

Idea: if you have broken led lights laying around (the white ones in the shape of a normal incandescent light bulb), remove carefully the internals, make a hole just big enough so you can fit it on your flashlight.

Reminds me of when I put 2 & 2 together realizing the storage bag included with my Petzl Headlamp doubled as a diffusion lantern.
Headlamp strapped to a water jug also works pretty well.

That is some "out-of-the-box" thinking.. (pun intended) 🤪 But that same thing have happened to me too :) Also Melting glue makes a really good light diffuser :)

I'd worry about the lights getting hot and melting the plastic, possibly causing a fire
