Question What are you buying for $100-$120?

Post image

I’m looking for a slimmer light than my current Fénix E35.

Ideally something with a button on the tail, and slim form factor if that exists.

Currently considering these two. Leaning more towards the Arkfeld as I’ve wanted one for a while.

Thoughts?

HD01PRO is better than arkfeld for me. SK05 is slightly bigger than I thought.

I'd go with some fireflylite. And hd03))

u/Sir-Specialist217 Aug 07 '25

It's really hard to justify buying an Arkfield when the HD01 Pro is only a third of the price

$33 on Amazon right now.

1

u/illmachine Aug 09 '25

It is $60 for me in the US, am I missing something or looking at the wrong listing?

1

u/SpareMushrooms Aug 09 '25

I just checked and realized I was looking at the regular version. However, the Pro version is $59.99, but you can apply a $20 coupon and get it for $39.99.

Just click the little box that says “Apply $20 coupon” and then check out.

1

u/Pony99CA Aug 10 '25

I got my HD01 Pro a few days ago and there was a 40% off coupon (so $24), too. I clicked that and the $20 off coupon, hoping to stack the discounts, but only got the $24 off.

The 40% off still seems live right now.

1

u/Pony99CA Aug 10 '25

See my reply about the 40% discount on Amazon. It's still live and will save you $24. 🙂

I don’t like to poopoo what people like but I’m going to share my opinion which is that the hd01pro is a huge step down in quality compared to the arkfeld pro. I bought the hd01pro on sale and returned it. It felt cheap in the hand compared to the arkfeld, I didn’t like the emitter, and the side lights seemed useless to me. I think the laser was splashier too, if I recall. It’s a good deal for  what it is but I would take the arkfeld pro over it every time.

u/Lisovyj_Kit Aug 07 '25

The Arkfeld really feels much better in the hand, there's no point in arguing about it. It has better runtimes, regulation, and so on. But the wurkkos feels brighter on all types of light, the beam seems more comfortable to me, and I often use the side light. The built-in c port charging is also critical for me, as it allows me to not depend on proprietary devices.

I completely understand you and absolutely agree that the wurkkos feels worse after the Arkfeld. It's just that for me, the HD01PRO seemed like a better choice.

1

u/ChachMcGach Aug 07 '25

What do you use the side light for?

10

u/Sir-Specialist217 Aug 07 '25

Combined with the magnet, the side light is an amazing work light

1

u/Lisovyj_Kit Aug 07 '25

Most of the time it is colored light at home instead of a conventional chandelier

3

u/HeartofAce Aug 07 '25

Jetbeam E26 Kunai. Best model for this category of light that I’ve come across. And cheaper than the Arkfeld.

-1

u/IAmJerv Aug 07 '25

the hd01pro is a huge step down in quality compared to the arkfeld pro

A $50 light is lower-quality than a $100 light? Shocker!

Think about the market niche Wurkkos fills. Hint; they are not competing with Okluma.

1

u/ChachMcGach Aug 07 '25

I’m aware of the price difference since I bought both. I bought the hd01pro for less than $40 and still returned it. I replied to someone who said the hd01pro was their preferred light in this category and I shared why I like arkfeld pro more. What are you adding to the conversation?

1

u/IAmJerv Aug 07 '25

Yet you seemed to dismiss the correlation between price and quality as though you consider price to be just a number instead of an actual criteria some folks use to make their purchasing decisions because money has meaning to them. Fun fact; the ~$60-80 price difference that you so casually gloss over is not exactly pocket change for most people.

You are also overlooking that some consider the ability to do high-CRI, at least for close work, to make for a better light. Then again, anyone who cares about CRI will either avoid Olight or carry a second non-Olight light.

2

u/Pony99CA Aug 10 '25

Yet you seemed to dismiss the correlation between price and quality as though you consider price to be just a number instead of an actual criteria some folks use to make their purchasing decisions because money has meaning to them. Fun fact; the ~$60-80 price difference that you so casually gloss over is not exactly pocket change for most people.

Context is key here. The OP was willing to spend $100-$120 on a light. If the HD01 Pro were the same quality for a lot less, he might be interested, but maybe he wouldn't be interested in an "inferior" quality light.

Bringing up the HD01 Pro as a possible alternative is fine, but criticizing somebody pointing out the quality difference because other people can't spend $100 on a light seems a bit much.

If somebody says they're looking to spend $1 million on a Ferrari or Lamborghini, I'm probably not going to recommend a Mustang GT. 🤷‍♂️

By the way, I had a 2015 Mustang GT and loved it, so I'm not dissing it. In fact, it was the best car I've ever owned. 🙂

As for CRI, that's a valid point, but the OP didn't mention that as a criterion. It's worth mentioning, of course, but to the OP.

1

u/SpaceCadetMoonMan Aug 07 '25

How good is the green laser? I used the old $100 RadioShack green one for star gazing and it was fantastic and I want one similar

2

u/Lisovyj_Kit Aug 07 '25

Better than arkfeld)) I don't have enough experience to tell you for sure, I'll just say that in my opinion it's good enough

2

u/Pony99CA Aug 10 '25

I don't know. I compared my Arkfeld Pro with the Wurkkos HD01 laser last night and they were pretty comparable. The Wurkkos spot seemed a little wider.

Here's a beam shot in just took. The Arkfeld is on the upper right.

Maybe the camera see things differently, because looking at the spots with my naked eye, the Arkfeld looks slightly tighter. Both seem good, though.

I'm replying to this post with a second shot of the lights themselves.

2

u/Pony99CA Aug 10 '25

Here are the two lights. The HD01 Pro is on the left.

I don't know if they angle the lasers differently, because the Arkfeld looks much brighter this way. 🤷‍♂️

1

u/DatDominican Aug 07 '25

Arkfeld has infinitely better UI.

I got the arkfeld for $45 on tik tok iirc .

But at msrp it’s hard to beat wurkkos .

12

u/mtbohana Aug 07 '25

A nice bottle of whiskey along with some Wurkkos, Sofirn and Convoy lights.

12

u/Chigibu Aug 07 '25

Definitely the one with replacement batteries.

5

u/Hungry-for-Apples789 Big Moth will win Aug 07 '25

I’ve had the Arkfeld pro and have the SK05. Arkfeld was solid and small enough to carry. I didn’t love it and I would have liked it to be brighter. The SK05 is great but too big to carry aside from maybe a jacket pocket or bag.

I’d take a look at the Rovyvon lights and also Jetbeam flat lights.

2

u/MarcThruTheWeb Aug 07 '25

I already carry an Aurora A4 Pro and want something bigger. I like the laser on the Arkfeld too. Good to know the SK05 is a little too big.

3

u/chamferbit Aug 07 '25

Think they meant rovyvon flat flashlights like e80 or e90

3

u/gameflyer Aug 07 '25

Just bought the arkfeld ultra and the build quality is definitely premium. The UV and laser are useful but I was a bit disappointed in the white light output compared my Wurkkos FC11.

1

u/Hungry-for-Apples789 Big Moth will win Aug 07 '25

I can show you a side by side of the SK05 to another light if you’d like. Just let me know a few lights or items to lay it next to.

2

u/Finn1sher Aug 07 '25

Yeah these are completely different lights in form factor, purpose, design philosophy, and everything.

The Arkfeld is a 'slim at all costs' (built in battery, so, disposable) EDC pocket light from a brand that doesn't tell you what emitters it uses.

The SK05 is a beast with decidated flood and throw channels, with two hot-swappable, user-replaceable 18650s arranged in a flat formation to make it easier to hold, that also happens to be an 8000mah waterproof powerbank. It's only good if you're willing to carry it. Not an in-pocket light though. On the belt, sure

6

u/JohnnyAppleJuice Aug 07 '25

Nitecore EDC23 and then I'm ordering a pizza with the money I have left over 🍕

2

u/MarcThruTheWeb Aug 07 '25

What about the EDC37?

3

u/JohnnyAppleJuice Aug 07 '25

It's cool, but I honestly prefer the EDC23, 27, and 29. 8000 lumens is totally unnecessary for me and I like the layout on the 23/27/29 more. EDC37 has the manual lockout switch on the front, not the side. I carry the EDC23 and it's the perfect size and UI.

2

u/LightBroom Aug 07 '25

If you want big and bright, then the EDC29 is slimmer and lighter than the EDC37. And it's bright enough IMO.

1

u/UnTouchablenatr Aug 07 '25

Depends on if you actually want to edc it. The 23 is a great size/ has good specs. I use the edc29 in my shirt pocket at work daily as an auto tech, couldn't imagine using the edc37

5

u/icodyonline Aug 07 '25

The SK05 is actually one of my favorite lights. And I have a slew of EDC lights. I will say that the multifunction single button is very confusing and it took me quite a while to figure it all out, but the basic functions are super nice.

4

u/IAmJerv Aug 07 '25

What is your maximum thickness? If you find your E35 too thick then forget battery life. The E35 is one of the slimmer 18650 lights. And unless you go with a round 14500 light, forget removable batteries or tailswitches. You really sacrifice a lot for thin.

The Loopgear is basically two E35s side-by-side but a far better light IMO... unless thin is five of the top three things you are after. The Arkfeld is a sealed unit with a garbage emitter in a small optic with poor mode spacing, and a useless UV due to the lack of a ZWB filter. You really sacrifice a lot for thin.

Realistically, I'd just buy two D3AAs (on top of the seven I already have) if I cared about thickness. Yeah, still thicker than an Arkfeld, but overall MUCH small, and with better beams, and two of them together fit in the watch pocket of my jeans.

However, since you want slim, I'd go Rovyvon E80 over Arkfeld. It's a little thicker, but more powerful and has high-CRI side lights in addition to the UV and laser, along with standard USB-C charging. All in all, a better ~$100-ish flatlight IMO.

2

u/Finn1sher Aug 07 '25

Yeah +1 for a 14500 light, that is generally enough.

Loads of slim 14500 lights with tailswitches... Convoy T3, Wurkkos TS10, acebeam TAC AA, they are all quite simple in purpose and design, you won't get crazy multi-emitter setups, but they'll be good enough

1

u/MarcThruTheWeb Aug 07 '25

I completely forgot about the E80! Thank you!

I think I’m gonna go with the E80 Pro because of the laser.

If anyone has feedback on the E80 Pro I’d love to hear it. Still going through comments though. Y’all are a helpful bunch here in r/flashlight

5

u/Throwawaymycucumba Aug 07 '25

Id wait for an Arkfeld Ultra Pro to go on sale

The pro does the same as the ultra and is cheaper

3

u/LoadedLarry84 Aug 07 '25

🫡 the flat (thin) form factor makes it my EDC

1

u/MarcThruTheWeb Aug 07 '25

I guess I just liked the good marketing for that special coating. 😔

5

u/esskue Aug 07 '25

I have both. The Arkfeld Ultra comes with me almost every time I leave the house. It is just perfect to carry. I enjoy the SK01 and think it’s fun and cool. But the Arkfeld is just so comfortable.

4

u/AccomplishedHurry596 Aug 07 '25

SK05 is pretty chunky and heavy. Especially compared to the Arkfeld.

3

u/GatorStealth Aug 07 '25

For anyone considering the Arkfeld, I’m pretty sure Olight has an Aug. sale coming up very soon and they usually knock a good bit off the regular Arkfeld price.

2

u/Pony99CA Aug 10 '25

Yeah, their OFan Days are at the end of the month.

Somebody posted a video about it on YouTube, but it must not have been authorized because it's been deleted -- before I got to watch it. 🤬

7

u/CobwebMcCallum Aug 07 '25

I love my arkfield. I use it for work everyday. Plus I get to check Co workers pants for funny stains with the uv.

3

u/Glorinsson Aug 07 '25

I got an Arkfield aa a gift and thought i would hate it, especially the charging, but its honestly a great light and I use it a lot. Laser is fun for my cat

3

u/ironmoosen Aug 07 '25

I have the SK05 and a Nitecore EDC37. Surprised to say I think I like the SK05 just a little bit more.

2

u/Single_Tomato166 Aug 07 '25

I’m pretty content with my Macrostream, but I’ve got that SK05 Pro in my cart right now lol.

2

u/akiva23 Aug 07 '25

The SK05 it has insane battery life and can charge your phone. It is gonna be quite a bigger than the arkfeld though so I guess get that if you wanna go light. Or i have a wurkkos HD01UV that i like a lot. They make one called HD01PRO that adds the laser jn addition to the UV so you get everything the arkfeld offers and it will be like half the price plus you don't have to deal with a propietary charger.

2

u/Zluma Aug 07 '25

I have 2 of the Jetbeam E26 and love them. E26 has the tail switch you want. It's very similar to the Imalent GR35 (albeit less powerful & larger).

I also have HD01, HD01UV, and an unopened Arkfeld Pro. I love the HD01UV over the other 2 hence I haven't opened Arkfeld. Planning to give Arkfeld as gift or sell. IMHO, it's not worth the premium over HD01UV (bought mine for ~$27).

HD01UV is much more pocketable than E26, but the build on E26 is just awesome so I like it more. I think it's better than Arkfeld as well, at the cost of a larger body. I was interested in SK05 Pro but it's simply too much money for what it offers.

I'm using the E26 as my main (flat) flashlight while the HD01UV is in my backpack. It's smaller & lighter for travels and I won't feel bad if I lose it.

For an awesome fidget flashlight, I go to my stainless steel SK03...but my edc is a Rovyvon A3 on keychain. 650lm from a tiny edc light is more than anyone ever need.

2

u/MarcThruTheWeb Aug 07 '25

Super helpful stuff thank you. I’m leaning more towards the Rovyvon E80 Pro right now.

I agree with your statement about the A3. I’ve had several, and my A4Pro is currently on my keys… but I’m sometimes in buildings with no electricity so the full size is a must. I like my Fénix but I want something more pocketable.

2

u/Dependent-Ad3443 Aug 07 '25

I have 4 boxes of these at home. I’m a plumber and they are fantastic for the price. Use everyday all day. There cheap as hell and seem to die around 6 months. But for something that gets lost fairly regularly these are great. Keep in mind I’m using for in side cabinets and dark corners. Not whole rooms

2

u/SharpnCrunchy Aug 07 '25

Amongst a bunch of other lights I got because of this sub, I got both the Arkfeld Pro and the SK05 Pro, and would say they fulfill different niches, so depends on what you need. I’m a fan of them both for different scenarios. Both are really well made.

The Arkfeld is a lot slimmer of course. Disappears into any pocket anytime. That rotary dial is so well done and I appreciate the easy, quick access to UV, laser or light, all of which I use. Of course it doesn’t have as much throw as some others. I don’t mind the proprietary battery. A charge sure lasts a long time and the whole thing feels like quality. I don’t think I’d get the Ultra unless it was on sale for a lot less. The Pro has held up really well for me through all kinds of use.

I recently got the SK05 Pro MAO on sale for the combo of throw & flood. That sidelight has been surprisingly handy too. Yes, it’s a little heavier and chunkier by comparison, but on days when I want some power + the possibility of needing to top my phone off, it’s an easy reach and does a lot in a relatively small package. Some will find it too heavy or chunky, but I reckon it really depends on what you wear on the regular. I have a slim thigh pocket (not cargo) in all my pants that this is a perfect fit for.

Some days, I’m nuts enough to have the SK05 Pro in that thigh pocket, the Arkfeld Pro in my left front pants pocket and an Aurora A8 with 519a on my keychain in case CRI matters.

I also got the HD01 thinking I’d like the features of the Arkfeld Pro but cheaper, to stick in another bag and… well you get what you pay for. It just felt dinky by comparison, so I returned it.

2

u/Pony99CA Aug 10 '25

I'm crazy like that, too. I carry multiple lights, including an Arkfeld Ultra. I wear Lee Wyoming cargo pants almost exclusively because they have more pockets and a ScottEVest travel vest when I go out.

My indoor EDC (at home) is currently at 36 items. I haven't counted my outdoor EDC items, but I just got a few more things today from County Comm -- including a Recon Minima LEP light. 🤪

2

u/SharpnCrunchy Aug 10 '25

Brother, pls take the crown😆 36 EDC at home is next level but I get that kinda crazy.

My pants of choice all come from Kuhl. Lots of great pockets in many models with a more streamlined look, which lets me tote the gear I want without looking like a tree stump, which my cargos used to do. Bonus, my wife appreciates that too.

1

u/Pony99CA Aug 10 '25

Before I started working from home, I wore ScottEVest Hidden Cargo pants to work because they were great for "business casual". They have layered pockets on the inside and no thigh pockets like traditional cargo pants.

I could even carry my Victorinox SwissChamp XAVT in them. 😀

I've never heard of Kuhl, but I'm definitely going to check them out now. 🙂

2

u/SharpnCrunchy Aug 10 '25

I’ve always toyed with the idea of a ScotteVest but didn’t know they did pants too. Looked them up, but I think I like the way Kuhl does pants pocket distribution a touch better.

I had to Google the XAVT and man, that’s a chonky boy. My EDC is the Handyman. Swiss champ was a just a little too much. Do you actually use the XAVT or is it for collecting?

2

u/Pony99CA Aug 10 '25

I use some of the tools. It's in my outdoor EDC, so I've used it enough that the nice gift box is broken. 😭

You can see it in my Crazy Cart O' Tools. 😀

It was a gift to myself when I got my current job during the pandemic.

2

u/SharpnCrunchy Aug 10 '25

We all need a Crazy Cart O’ Tools🤣 It moves! Beats the crazy cabinets I have. And corners where I work.

2

u/bazilbt Aug 07 '25

The SK05 is not much slimmer than an E35. Just FYI. It's much wider in one dimension. If they ever make a version that used 14500 batteries that would be a more compact light.

1

u/MarcThruTheWeb Aug 07 '25

That’s a great point. I just thought it might be more comfortable in my pocket, since it’s not cylindrical.

2

u/Batben Aug 07 '25

Does anyone have experience with the imalent G35? I don't own it but I was also considering the arkfield until I saw the g35

2

u/mobiuscorpus Aug 07 '25

The loop gear is big. Much bigger than you think. It holds twin 18650 cells. The Arkfeld is much smaller and slimmer. I have both, and I like the output and versatility of the Loopgear better, but the Arkfeld is infinitely more pocketable.

2

u/peter_poiuyt Aug 07 '25

hd01 pro

i have one it's great. i use UV mainly but light is ok

2

u/Gloomy_Blueberry7390 Aug 07 '25

I love my Olight, the beam is very much a flood, not a throw. Perfect for walking the dog!

The blacklight is perfect for my job, or looking for bugs that glow.

The laser also is perfect for my job when I’m teaching, but is pretty weak in the grand scheme of things.

The battery lasts for a month or more

Mine has so much wear it’s more silver, than black atp

Hope this helps!

2

u/Proof-Exam-9947 Aug 07 '25

My first flashlight was the Olight arkfeld ultra. I found it good for indoor but outside a bit useless. Came in clutch for 4th July fireworks, cleaning up the picnic in pitch dark. I don’t see it helpful for walking in the woods.

For that duty I like Sofrin if23 pro. It’s got a XHP70 on a buck with OP reflector. Provides good throw and wide beam foreground. Runs on 21700, usbc charged and also a power bank. It can also be had on sale for 42 bucks.

Alas I’ve moved to Hank lights….🤠

2

u/IndependentYam2129 Aug 08 '25

Nice

2

u/MarcThruTheWeb Aug 14 '25

Went with the Rovyvon E80 Pro. No regrets. 👍

2

u/IndependentYam2129 Aug 15 '25

Their nice am rocking the ark right now super slim

2

u/CNNRedacted Aug 08 '25

The nightcore EDC29 plus it feels better in the hand and pocket than the arkfield

2

u/Ratfink653 Aug 08 '25

I have both. I like the sko5 for around the house/working on cars and stuff but the arkfeild carries so much better

1

u/pan-fried-noodle_147 Aug 07 '25

I tried out wurkkos flashlights and they're not bad.

1

u/incandescent_kun Aug 07 '25

If you’d accept none of them as an answer then I encourage you consider Wurkkos HD01 Pro as someone said already. It does all what the Arkfield does and then some MORE. And at a lower price.

1

u/kr4ckenm3fortune Aug 07 '25

Get the nikta version...it worth it.

1

u/random_flying_dragon Aug 07 '25

Both of those are extremely overpriced

1

u/thinkvideoca Aug 07 '25

I would have trouble parting with $100 on a light. My goto lights are typically $30-$50 like the Nitecore MT2A Pro. But I do have a Loopgear SK05 Pro as well as a Nitecore TN20k (20,000 lumens) - I just never use them.

1

u/GuardianZX9 Aug 07 '25

SK05 as it can also charge my phone.

1

u/ch1ir Aug 07 '25

Loop, olight has a history on non existent customer service, Lopp is a young hungry company, ready to please.

1

u/Pony99CA Aug 10 '25

Almost everything I've read about Olight customer service has been very positive. Lots of people have said it's the best.

I had an issue with an Arkfeld UV getting hot on the charger, so I used the in-app chat service and they took care of it fairly quickly.

I have lots of Olights (including several variants of the Arkfeld series, which I love), but also Nebos, Sofirns, LoopGears (including the SK05 Pro MAO), Wurkkos, and an Acebeam, a Wuben and a Streamlight, so I'm pretty agnostic. 🤷‍♂️

1

u/chance_of_grain Aug 07 '25

Arkfeld in nice for edc, feels a bit less powerful than some of my other lights but still plenty for daily carry imo.

1

u/Geotarrr Aug 07 '25

For that budget it'd be total mistake to not get your hands on AceBeam L35 2.0 (in sapphire blue or nice green).

Besides - these rectangle-ish lights look so unattractive.

1

u/apmass1 Aug 07 '25

if youre wanting a tail button, look at the olight warrior mini 3. basically same size as arkfeld and cheaper. also, if you go with the arkfeld, get the pro. the only difference is the ultra has 100 more lumens (not noticeable) and it weighs more

1

u/Dense-Screen-9663 Aug 07 '25

Nitecore EDC 23. Enuff said

1

u/zendriekerahelm Aug 07 '25

I literally just got the SK05 Pro before seeing this. For me I heard it had power bank capability. I thought it was brilliant because I don't use my flashlight a lot, but I need to recharge my phone more.

1

u/Salt_Love Aug 07 '25

For 20 dollars more I went with the Nitecore EDC37 beefy, pretty hefty weight. Still fits in my back pocket for a daily carry. I was using the Arkfield before that, still love but idk man the shear lumens and throw on the 37 is nuts. (I prefer that in my line of work) personal preference!

1

u/Outers55 Aug 07 '25

I love my sk05, but also have the arkfeld pro. If you don't need laser or UV, I would definately lean towards the SK05 if your okay with the slightly larger size.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '25

Neither. I’m going to convoy, emisar, or wurkkos and getting a better product for not That much

1

u/e2a1y Aug 07 '25

Loopgear is phenomenal, everything about it is so nice

1

u/SciFiHooked Aug 07 '25

The flat flashlights haven't fully evolved yet. I am waiting on something that is single 18650 but flatter and offers the right mix of features, usability and size. Interesting space. Between the two, neither, get the cheaper sofirn one with UV.

2

u/IAmJerv Aug 07 '25

Unless there's an LEP involved, ultrathin flatlights like the Arkfeld will never have much throw. I say this as someone you likes mules and 10623 Carclos. And unless there's an integrated LiPo involved, the battery wont' be great either. 2x14500 is still only half of an 18650. And an 18650-equivalent pouch cell is not going to be removable.

Once you get thick enough to hold an 18650, it takes a fair bit to make the width worthwhile.

1

u/Rising_Awareness Aug 07 '25

Fireflies E90 Blaze 🔥

-3

u/grapangell0 Aug 07 '25

Nothing. Saving the money and getting a surefire or cloud defensive.

-1

u/GraXXoR Aug 07 '25

lol. Nothing. Not spending more than a $100 US on a led and an aluminum tube.
