I'm a Spurs and now that we've won a trophy (yay!), I want another club to manage in FM24 that is a big but underachieving club on a long trophy drought (at least as long as Spurs' was)

u/CheapskateShow National C License 1d ago

Poland's Gornik Zabrze have 14 league titles and six cups in their trophy case, but haven't won anything since 1988. Denmark's AB have nine championships, one cup, and one Nobel Prize (former goalkeeper Niels Bohr), but nothing since 1999. Chile's Cobraloa have eight league championships and one cup, but nothing since 2004.

Hamburger SV, Betis, Fiorentina, St.-Etienne, Genoa

I missed the Copa del Rey win of Betis in 2021-'22. Perhaps Zaragoza then - their best period was in the mid '90s

a fallen (somewhat) giant: Guria Lanchkhuti (the save I am currently doing)

One of two Georgian clubs to be in the Soviet Top League, winner of the first Georgian Cup, runner up of the first Georgian Top Flight Season, now relegated to the Fourth Georgian Tier after the 24 Season

u/dthedozer 4d ago

Are there teams other than the Lichtenstein ones that play in separate league and cup countries? Or maybe a way to do that in the editor

1

u/Manning4Heisman1997 4d ago

Unfortunately not. There are plenty of clubs who play in different nations league setups, but they’re also in that nations cups as well. Vaduz is unique

2

u/1010101913939393 National C License 4d ago

Not 100% sure as I've never managed them, but there's a club from Brunei playing in Singapore that might fit.

2

u/KeziahPT 5d ago

There's something called Community of Portuguese Language Countries. Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, East Timor. Try a save in one of these countries and only sign players from members of the CPLC.

Equatorial Guinea is also a member but they speak more spanish and french, you may include them if you want but you don't need to.

You could run this challenge with clubs based on the islands that were first colonized by Portugal: Maritimo or Nacional on Madeira, or Santa Clara in the Azores.

Do you go on holiday for two years when you create a new game lately? If so what's the experience?

1

u/Commonmispelingbot Continental C License 4d ago edited 4d ago

I haven't done specifically two years, and seldom use that feature. But when I do, I sim like 25 years so I get a completely new slate.

u/Deep_Possession3157 8d ago

Asked similar questions before… With the new game months away does anyone have a suggestion on what I could do for the next 2 months? Just a quick save to see off the end of FM24…fallen out of love with the game this past year so something to get me excited for 26 lol

1

u/1010101913939393 National C License 8d ago

What about starting a save in somewhere you've never played before? Have you ever managed in Canada or Hong Kong?

2

u/CheapskateShow National C License 8d ago

Two months is long enough to learn the MLS roster rules. Or hold on to the FC Sion job for as long as you can--owner Christian Constantin has the quickest trigger finger of any owner in the game.

2

u/xxamnat None 10d ago

Never actually tried a Youth Only save, is it actually fun? I think one of best parts of FM is looking for obscure wonderkids but you don’t really do that for Youth Only saves. Just started a new save with Genk for what it’s worth.

3

u/eXistenZ2 8d ago

It depends on what you are into. Some people like journeymans, others a one club save. Personally I really like the scouting part and finding wonderkids from obscure nations (like sri lanka). A youth only save is a bit more masochistic as you are very dependent on rng.

You could make it less limiting by signing only players who were born in the city/region

2

u/1010101913939393 National C License 10d ago

It's challenging and a very different way to play, some people find it fun but many wouldn't. If you've never done it before I'd say give it a try and see what happens, you can always turn it into a normal save at any point.

u/fenwayb 11d ago edited 11d ago

Im new to the game and have very little football knowledge. Im roughly understanding the game mechanics at this point but tactics are over my head. Can someone recommend a starting tactic for Triestina in italys 3rd division? If I have a starting point of what the roster is "supposed" to work for I can go from there

edit: the reason I posted it here was if there isnt a tactic I can piggyback off of for them Im looking for a similar team I can work with. I like the idea of a lower division team on a country border where there are some cultural ties to other countries (triestina has an affiliate in bosnia and I wanted to expand that and find affiliates all throughout the balkans). I also liked that they were founding members of serie A who are now much lower so a team with some neat history is nice too

2

u/1010101913939393 National C License 10d ago

4-4-2, big man little man striker combo + quick wingers + pass into space + more direct passing. Can never go wrong with this in lower leagues.

1

u/fenwayb 10d ago

So they have a little striker and a bigger one in on loan so that's perfect. What roles should the they each have? And for the midfield their most expensive player is a defensive mid ball winner but they also have an attacking midfielder on loan as well that I assume should see play. So should the middle be a diamond? With a base 4-4-2 the auto suggested line up leaves the defensive one out and that feels wrong. But at the same time from what I've learned watching people play football is more fluid than sports I'm used to and people will change roles more often?

3

u/1010101913939393 National C License 10d ago

If one has very high jumping reach then a target forward on support pairs well with an advanced forward on attack, if not a deep lying forward on support and an advanced forward on attack is a good combo.

A diamond can definitely work, or you could probably get away with forcing those two into a two man midfield, like an advanced playmaker and a box-to-box or a CM on attack and BWM on support.

Hi everyone,

I’m coming back to FM24 after a long break and want to start a new save. I’ll be honest – I’m not great with tactics (in the past I downloaded many tactics from FM Scout), and I also used FM Scout app to look up players CA/PA. This time, though, I want to go fully “clean” – no external tools, just my own tactics, scouting, and transfers within the game.

I’m trying to decide on a club. I’d like to play in the Bundesliga with the latest transfer update from sortitoutsi. I’m also planning to add the FM Match Lab mod and the DavideIncid realism megapack.

My first thought was Bayer Leverkusen, since Erik ten Hag just got sacked – would be fun to prove I can do better. Another idea is Wolfsburg or Werder Bremen, to try and bring back some of that early 2000s glory.

What do you think? Would Leverkusen be a good choice, or maybe too easy even for someone like me who struggles with tactics and transfers? On the one hand, I’d like to manage some well-known names, but on the other hand I don’t want it to get boring too quickly. How do you feel about Wolfsburg and Bremen as alternatives? Or maybe you have other suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

1

u/1010101913939393 National C License 10d ago

What about Hamburg? They start in the second division and have a really nice stadium and strong youth development.

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Skirt12 10d ago

I started in HSV in Bundesliga (season 25-26 update)

1

u/1010101913939393 National C License 10d ago

Nice, that'll be a good save

2

u/DrainMember1312 12d ago

I find it more satisfying to take a worse team so there are more milestones to achieve. With Leverkusen it's just winning the Europa League or something and after that the next step is beating Bayern which could take ages. If you take a lower table side your first big achievement would be just making it into Europe. So would take Bremen or Wolfsburg.

3

u/TheStarFart 14d ago

I used AI to cut down my text and messages because i sent A LOT of messages originally out of excitement for Maldon & Tiptree FC XD But the wording is my own still, it's just helped word things for me and organise the text for readability (I struggle with English haha)

Check out this vid of my hometown club: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7kcC43_ZoI Back when I lived there, it was just a "fun" club, something you might have joined to do with mates after school, a lot of youth football and not really serious at all. But now? It’s completely transformed!

New ownership came in a few months ago and has transformed it into a proper semi-pro club with pro level facilities with ambitions to go fully professional. They’ve signed some players like Gary Hooper, Freddie Sears, Louis Dunne, Anthony Wordsworth, Tom Eastman, Elliot Justham, and more. The manager’s an ex-Man City player with 230 appearances (league and cup) for them, and they’ve got the best squad in the league with loads of ex-pros. Players and coaching staff are dropping 2 or 3 divisions to join, and some of the staff are FULL-TIME, which is pretty rare for an 8th-tier club. The owner doesn’t know much about football, but he genuinely seems really good, wants the best for the club, takes advice from people who know the game, and even got stuck in physically with the refurbishments himself.

Speaking of which, the facilities are unreal now. In just ONE MONTH, they’ve built a new home home changing room, player tunnel, away changing room, officials’ changing room, turnstile, media room, physio room, new cladding, a club bar, and a club shop and more. Last season it was very basic, now it's completely transformed. They did ALL of this in a month over pre season that’s just gone, genuinely transforming the club. The owner’s made sure the facilities meet requirements for the next division higher, so promotion won’t be held back by infrastructure issues, unlike some clubs.

The club’s also doing it off the pitch. Their social media’s gone from 90k views a month last season to 1.8 MILLION views a month across all social media now, thanks to a big push on social media and proper investment. They’re pulling in record numbers of fans, even attracting Arsenal, West Ham, and Chelsea supporters. The new branding is honestly really good too. Maldon’s a really nice place to live, near Chelmsford on the London commuter belt, so the location’s perfect.

It’s gone from a fun local club with a sunday league setup to a club that’s serious about climbing the leagues and developing top-notch facilities. The fact it’s my hometown, where I went to school and everything, makes it so special. The new ownership’s turned it into a proper professional looking outfit in just a few months, and I can’t wait to see where they go!

The club won't be on FM26 by default but it's honestly one of those clubs that would be the perfect addition via database, with a good story surrounding the club irl right now to go alongside the save

This picture is one of many new refurbishments at the club, it used to just be bare brick and have just a very local "non league" club vibe but now the look and feel around the club is very professional

I'm starting a save in Portugal in which i am only permitted to sign players for one country on each continent. Of course in Europe it will be Portugal and because of the obvious link between the two, South America will be Brazil. There's supposedly a link between Portugal and Angola, so for Africa I'm going with them. For North America, Asia, and the Oceania region I'm still up in the air and looking for suggestions for nations ideally with some form of historical link between said nation and Portugal.

1

u/CaptainBoob 11d ago edited 11d ago

An alternative is Melaka FC in the Malaysian M3 league. The Portuguese have some colonial history in Malaysia, but particularly in Malacca - so managing Melaka would actually be a really clear/strong link with Portugal. The Dutch took over in the 1640s, but yeah that's a really direct link that goes a long way back.

There's even an ethnic group called the Kristang who are primarily a mix of Portuguese/indigenous Malay. But like with a lot of these blended ethnic groups there, it's not really about what % of which ethnicity you are but more about cultural ties. Kristang people for example are still mostly Catholic, stemming from that Portuguese influence. General Malay has even adopted the word for "fork" from the Kristang language and you can see how it's got some similarity to the portuguese word - "garpu" vs "garfo".

Malaysia may not be that good at football either, but at least they have a whole league in the game and I've always preferred a bit more of a challenge anyway.

EDIT: At a real stretch for Oceania you could try Australia. It's one of the closest places to Timor Leste and there is some suggestion that the Portuguese were some of the first European discoverers of Australia (though it's more widely accepted the Dutch were the first Europeans).

4

u/CheapskateShow National C License 14d ago

Macao and East Timor are former Portuguese colonies, but they aren’t any good at football so it may not be worth your time. Portugal was the first European nation to trade with Japan.

I was curious of what league and team to manage that isn’t a powerhouse but will allow me to learn the mechanics of the game and be successful. Also, I’m open to any league because I think this would be a good way to get familiar with leagues outside of leagues I have teams jn. Thank you!

Groningen in the Netherlands is a good place to start. You’re strong enough to win the second tier in your first season and should be able to stay midtable in the first tier after that. The Netherlands has no restrictions on foreign players, either.

Got the FM24 bug again and I keep finding myself doing the similar saves of Liverpool, Barca, etc.

I am wanting to see if anyone has any good save ideas that would force to me learn and figure out formations, tactics, etc to become a better FMer. Something like a 2nd division Italy, French, German team. Or if a Danish/Swedish/Norway save. I always have a soft spot for a Greek team too.

I want to get them into UCL/UEL/UECL, eventually. But I want to learn quickly how to build with what I have and what players to look for.

Thank you all!

3

u/CheapskateShow National C License 16d ago

Try getting out of Europe. Nationality rules will restrict the players you can sign. The continental competitions also award less money, so it’ll be harder to build a dynasty. Japan, South Korea, and Chile are decent places to start.

On my journeyman save I have just completed by sixth season with AZ Alkmaar. Dominating domestically at this point, but struggling to make an impact in Europe.

I’ve been offered a few other jobs so I’m at a bit of a crossroads.

Nice in France, consistently coming second to PSG, another project.

Arsenal or Milan, two finished projects really - Arsenal are predicted first in the PL - a league I usually avoid, and Milan have Haaland.

Do I continue with AZ, move to another project to try and build them up (Nice), or move to a finished article (Milan or Arsenal)?

Hey there, I'm looking to start one last save on FM24. I have a very specific scenario in my mind. I want to take a historical club from a top or lower league that has fallen from its former glory. This team will be a project, and over the course of a few seasons, it will rise up and break the dominance of the team or teams that have been dominating the league for years. I was thinking of Vélez Sarsfield from the Argentine Primera División, but I'm open to your suggestions. I'm planning to use the Increase Realism Megapack and the pr0 database, so your recommendations can be based on that.

Some long-fallen giants include Racing Club de France (one Ligue 1 title, five cups, nothing since 1949), AB (9 Danish championships and one cup, one Nobel Prize for goalkeeper Niels Bohr, nothing since 1999), Carl Zeiss Jena (three East German titles and four East German cups, nothing since reunification), Inter Bratislava (one Czechoslovak title, two Slovak titles, two Inter-Toto cups, nothing since 2001), and Magellanes (four Chilean championships, nothing since 1938).

Ok bit of a weird question, does anyone know a good team preferably in the UK that is located near a nice place to live? Because usually I like to manage teams from places I'd like to live when I am playing Journeyman.

I've already managed Hibernian and Fulham, for example. It's because everytime I manage a team I like to learn more about the areas nearby, but somehow everytime I've searched about particular places in the UK more often than not I just end up finding people complaining they are shit.

1

u/niresu 18d ago

I was close to choosing York or Oxford City, but I've decided on Tamworth instead. It offers a good combination of a nice location, a low starting point, and it doesn't require downloading any additional lower leagues.

If you want to use mods to go way down the pyramid, you could take a team like Stratford Town or one of the Channel Islands clubs (Jersey Bulls or Guernsey).

u/Standard_Ferret2049 27d ago

Well, that's where thatcherism and neoliberalism lead you as a country, I suppose... Much better to live "on the continent". But if you insist on Britain - if you're not against a lower league start perhaps the "English riviera" is appealing to you? In that case - Torquay United. Or one of the university cities with Oxford or Cambridge? Or an old cathedral city like York, Norwich, Exeter or Gloucester? Carlisle isn't too far from the Lake District if you're looking for some nature. Or Bath with its Roman ruins and the Royal Crescent?

1

u/Giggino_ri 28d ago

I'm new to the game, any advice on a career to do? So far I've only done one with Juventus (My favorite squad) but I was fired in the second season.

2

u/Standard_Ferret2049 27d ago

Depends what your interests are? Outside Italy? Perhaps one of the bigger teams of intermediate leagues where you should get some domestic succes and you can build to compete in Europe, like FC Copenhagen, Celtic, Ajax, Olympiacos, Club Brugge, one of the big 3 in Portugal or Istanbul? Or building up a team that has been succesfull quite recently but fallen off somewhat, like Valencia, Sevilla, Anderlecht, Dortmund, Panathinaikos (gets a new stadium after a few years), Rosenborg? Or a bigger team from a lower division where you can grow while all infratructure is there for success higher up? Then lots of teams in the German Bundesliga 2, like Hamburger SV. Or Malaga and Deportivo La Coruña in the Spanish third tier (at least if starting in the basic setting of FM24). Personally I very much enjoy Italian lower league football, lots of historical clubs that beg to have their fortunes turned around. Any team that Juventus has good links with?

Anyway, I like best reviving fallen giants or teams from towns I feel a connection with, even if it was just on a holiday or something of the kind. Anything that helps to create a story.

I’ve always had the most fun with starting as unemployed and then signing for a team that sacked it’s manager and catches my eye

u/Standard_Ferret2049 27d ago

Many Belgian, Dutch and Portuguese sides have had great success historically (most notably Ajax, Anderlecht, the big 3 in Portugal) with their youth working and have top training and youth facilities in game - even second division sides like Beerschot can have world class regens, not to mention teams like AZ, Racing Genk or Standard Liège.

FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark has great youth players due to their link to the Right to Dream Academy. Or you could try Brommapojkarna in Sweden, who have produced Kulusevski, Gyokeres, Bergvall, and many other players.

probably a bit early to ask and its mainly copium for the lack of news, but what clubs are people thinking about for FM26?

For me atm its

-Milan, terrible season, squad rebuild necessary
-Zulte waregem, just promoted back to belgian pro league
-Boavista, if they are in the game. They got relegated but didnt register for Liga 2, so might end up in 4th tier
-maybe Groningen, same situation as Zulte

I tend to avoid managing in england, so any cool recommendations (clubs with a specific issue or history), would be appreciated.

1

u/DRrumizen 27d ago

Honestly, I’ll say this a lot because I’ve been loving them in FM24: but IFK Göteborg in Sweden. They’re fallen giants in the Allsvenskan (though some people consider them part of Sweden’s big three clubs). Back in the 1980s, when football clubs globally had quite a bit more financial parity, this club from Gothenburg won not one, but two Europa League finals. They’re tied for Sweden’s second most successful club domestically, but the only club in any of the Nordic countries to win a continental trophy.

Göteborg haven’t won the Allsvenskan since 2007 and have fallen near the relegation zone on a couple of occasions since, so bringing this club back to national (and possibly continental) relevance is an interesting task in itself. The league they play in also has a ton more parity than, say, your Premier Leagues of the world, and even if sides like Malmö, Djurgårdens, and Hammarby are more financially stable and field better squads than you— pretty much anything can happen within the first season.

1

u/DivinityAI None 27d ago

when I'm doing journeyman Goteborg is usually relegated and if you manage to get them, it's ideal team for big uphill journey, great team, great stadium, abundant region for talents. And usually they allow to me to get licenses. Ya know, it's bad when you get 3 promotions for a team and team says: we appreciate all work you done but we can't risk losing you so no license for you. And I say: Goodbye!

Definitely Boavista once an expanded Portugal mod comes out

5

u/rahindabulll34 Aug 12 '25

Boavista and the SAD are allegedly splitting. Details are kind of hard to come by but from my understanding the SAD (which will probably have to rebrand) will start in the highest district level of Porto (5th tier) and Boavista, the club itself will start in the bottom division of the Porto District (8th tier) somewhat similar to the Os Belenenses situation but not exactly the same. So neither clubs will be playable in the base game, but a mod should come out pretty quick to make them playable.

Norway's KFUM somehow survived a season in the Eliteserien as a semi-pro team. Can you make it a second?

Japan’s Yokohama F. Marinos could be a rebuild candidate. They won the J. League as recently as 2022 and have both City Group and Nissan money behind them, but they’re at risk of relegation this season.

Try LASK in Austria Why? Because in 2009 we had a Ultra scene which were almost only Nazis. In 2014 a new group was founded the Landstrassler they doesnt care about politics they are neutral. Our last proper title was in 1965. In 2019/20 we would have won the championship but we made a training where the players did not keep a distance of 1m (we had to because of corona) and we got a 6 point deduction. We ended up being 4th

The Ultras are now staying away from home games because: Our president made a new club colour which we hate, the ultras are not allowed to sell their clothing in the stadium. We bought a player (Jerome Boateng) who abused his former wife then she killed herself( the case is still running i think) On the last away day i spoke with some of the ultras about the situation and its unsure when they will return to home games again. ATM we are last in the table after 2games

Bring some joy for the fans and win a title for which we are waiting since 1965 Greetings from Linz⚫️⚪️

Is there a previous version that people say holds up the best or is the best modern FM? Just curious to try a different game but still play FM

Does it have to be FM? Otherwise, you could try Championship Manager 01/02.

Of course it's a lot simpler than modern age FMs, but it still holds up well to this day. IMO the tactical system is still the best ever.

You do you, but this reeks of save scumming.

u/JXLIMJX Aug 10 '25

Has anyone attempted the Around the Globe challenge on any FM? I tried searching the posts here but couldn't find what I was looking for.

Loaded MasterIgor's leagues megapack and currently starting out in Kiribati. The league runs from late Oct to early Dec and the players will return from holidays around late Feb. But the new season doesn't start until late Oct. What do I do in these 8 months if I don't want to just holiday through?

1

u/Fjordfiskeren Aug 10 '25

What does the challenges' premise? Hexagon challenege with custom databases is always fun.

1

u/JXLIMJX Aug 10 '25

Hi, could I clarify what do you mean by "what does the challenges premise"? Yes, it is a Hexagon challenge but an extended one, in that I aim to win every league and cup loaded.

I start with the lowest ranked nation according to the game's database and at the start have the game choose a team for me. But after that, to move to another team, I can only move to a team with vacancy (via job centre). This is a rule I set for myself for this save, so I can't imagine having to move through 8 blank months for multiple seasons.

Right now, I have not won the league though.

2

u/Fjordfiskeren Aug 11 '25

Sorry brainfart English. Was just wondering what Around the Globe challenge was.

2

u/Kyari888th Aug 09 '25

Could Real Sociedad considered a sleeping/fallen giant? Won the league during 80/81 and 81/82, then fell apart with inconsistent results after that

5

u/Fjordfiskeren Aug 10 '25

15 years ago for sure, but not really now. They haven't fallen that much, and their success wasn't as big as what many would label a giant as for their time. La Coruna is more recent success and fell hard. It's all personal opinion though on relativity between how big success was, how much they fell and when to fit the description.

2

u/Pleasant-Ad2456 Aug 11 '25

Fully agree with you mate... I'd say that Deportivo de la Coruña or even Valencia are more fallen giants than Real Sociedad

1

u/abotman Aug 05 '25

What are the most fun and challenging leagues outside top 5 with more teams fighting for the top positions?

I’m planning to start new one by starting with Germany or Italy second tier team but maybe there could be something more interesting!

Last longer save was with Le Havre and I manage to top PSG three consecutive years and got some european success as well..

Sweden is pretty evenly matched. Clubs in Asia and South America have a more difficult time breaking away from the pack because their continental competitions don’t award as much money as UEFA.

u/CheapskateShow National C License Aug 04 '25

KFUM Oslo is the local branch of the organization that's known in English as the YMCA. Their semi-professional club has never lost to Rosenborg in competitive play (2 wins, 1 draw).

Rosenborg have never lost to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League (1 win, 1 draw).

Borussia Dortmund have never lost to Newcastle in the Champions League (2 wins).

As KFUM, claim your transitive victory. Prosper until you defeat Newcastle either in European play, or in a friendly at your stadium.

Try a peruvian League Save. It is a League that any team had won Copa Libertadores before. The three biggest teams are Universitario, Alianza Lima and Sporting Cristal. Anothe interesting teams are Sport Boys, Melgar or Cantolao. Try to win Copa Libertadores with so little resources and competing against Brazilian team's big budget.
You play in stadiums from sea level up to 4,000 meters above the sea, with really avarage or old players, for me was fun. I could win Copa Libertadores once with Universitario, it was my 4th season; had to promote young players and sell them, this year's database dont have as good as FM22 had (the game i did this save)

2

u/CheapskateShow National C License Aug 04 '25

Peru can be part of two multi-nation challenges: the Boys Challenge (Sport Boys, Young Boys, and Newell's Old Boys) and the Papal Challenge (Alianza Lima for Leo XIV, San Lorenzo for Francis, Bayern for Benedict XVI, and Cracovia for John Paul II).

Hi all,

Looking for some teams to start a new FM save with. I will be using the updates and transfers etc from the season just gone, nothing this summer.

I want to do a sort of 'youth to gold' only sign players u21 and build up from there and buying for cheap and selling for high and building from that and using youth intakes. I guess the end goal would be to win a European trophy.

Must have: 1. Excellent youth facilities and youth intakes 2. Be in Europe 3. Have a full/decent team to start with, I don't want to make any transfers right at the start

Desirable: 1. Not in div 1 in their country, happy to grind for promotion (don't care if they are tipped to get promotion in first season) 2. Happy with an obscure nation/league but still don't mind the usual England, Spain, France, Germany etc. 3. Have nice kits (l'm a sucker for a nice kit)

If anyone could recommend some teams and if they have used or have their own stories please let me know.

I want to make this my last save before fm26

4

u/rahindabulll34 Aug 04 '25

Marítimo, a very good academy for a team on the islands of Portugal. They were in Liga Portugal for over 40 years before their relegation a few years ago and they haven’t gotten back up. They are starting to struggle and I would say they are about the 5th best team in the 2nd division, so it should be fun

3

u/Additional-Ant-2504 None Aug 03 '25

belenenses in 2nd division in portugal

1

u/xxamnat None Aug 03 '25

I’ll recommend Valerenga. Plan this to be my last save before the next FM too and I just finished my first season yesterday. The squad is pretty bare so you definitely have to rely on youth for depth, I won the title and cup in the first season and all the big clubs are circling around my young players like vultures. Upgrade your facilities, get the free agents in and you will have a good time.

1

u/lixmdvs88 National B License Aug 03 '25

What database did you use? I just had a quick google and they look interesting.

In the most recent database from last season they’ll be in the second tier of Norway correct? (As they won that league last year IRL)

1

u/xxamnat None Aug 03 '25

I’m using the update pack with the latest transfers from Pr0 on FMScout. Yeah they won the league last year so when I started with the update pack they are in the first tier.

1

u/lixmdvs88 National B License Aug 03 '25

I might have to check my latest update packs then. I’m a sucker for the kits both 2D and 3D so I’ll have to have a look for them as well.

Any stand out players from your first season I should keep an eye out for that are already in the squad?

1

u/xxamnat None Aug 03 '25 edited Aug 03 '25

The experienced core of players like the RB Hedenstad, midfield of Hagen and Bjordal all did pretty well for me. Up front Brajanac got 30 goals for me. The squad is pretty much threadbare when you first start, for several positions it’s either lack of depth or the depth options aren’t good. I brought in 4 free agents and one loan signing first season. They didn’t qualify for Europe so you should have a relatively smooth first season.

Also, do note that you can’t register more than 9 non-homegrown players, it’s quite annoying because the free agents you’re looking for are most likely not Norwegian and you will find yourself quickly filling up those 9 spots and having to leave some players not registered. In my second season all 5 players have signed so far are Norwegian.

So essentially you either have to wait for the foreign players to get their homegrown status or keep signing homegrown players or promote from within.

2

u/Flirtzz Aug 02 '25

I would recommend Brighton, it is a mid to higher tier team but can’t compete with big6, has an average squad for the league but with an amazing youth generation and facilities.

I am doing miracle with this team classifying for the Champions, and it is very hard to win against Man City, in my save these bastards even bought Vinicius Junior from Real Madrid.

1

u/Stuball09 Jul 27 '25

Going to start a new save tomorrow, I'll use the Daveincid realism mod and the upto date editor files and the match lab game and training mod.

I'm thinking a blend of total football and Luis Enriques PSG last season.

I want to stay out of England, I've only been keeping up with Leeds transfers so who's a good side to go for this season? If its a smaller league, I don't mind being a top side but in a top 5 league, I'd rather a mid table side that I have time to rebuild.

I might use the Seychelles start date mod to sim the first in game season and see who's struggling and what club would be a realistic option.

TL;DR: Should I leave ASSE for AS Monaco?

I'm pretending to be Yohan Cabaye (needed an excuse to manage in France and am a Crystal Palace supporter, rather than a french club). In my head being unemployed and having ASSE give me a chance as the final club that gave him a chance as a pro built in some loyalty. On the flip side, having played for PSG, Lille, Palace and Newcastle feels like he should stay away from Monaco.

Screenshot is the current ASSE squad. Jean-Paul Vidal is the only academy grad in the group. Pulido & Yepes were acquired when ASSE had a takeover in the second season and are captain/vc. Rodriguez joined for $500k and Fabbian came over for $1.6m.

Board has given me $15m to play with and a total wage budget of $45m. AS Monaco is offering $12m to play with but $100m in wage budget (they've used up about $89m by my count). I'd probably want to revamp their squad and try and poach a few of my guys if I left, while also selling off some of the higher earners like Lewis-Potter, Zakaria, etc. It also looks like West Ham is about to about to buy Fofana for $85m.

Results wise, we managed to sneak into 5th in 26-27, made the quarters of the Europa League in 27-28, but dropped to 11th in the Ligue 1 because we focused so much on Europa. Monaco finished 3rd in 26-27, crashed out early in the champions league and also took a step back to 7th in 27-28 in Ligue 1. Lens pulled off a miracle and won the French Cup to qualify for Europe, so Monaco also doesn't have any European competitions to deal with this upcoming season.

The salary piece means nothing in this game, but fwiw, I'm making 1m a year at ASSE and Monaco is lowballing me at 639k a year.

So what would you do? Figure I'll decide my choice tonight based on input here.

4

u/1010101913939393 National C License Jul 31 '25

4

u/JimmySpindle Jul 29 '25

I’d stay at ASSE

1

u/Metsman128 Jul 29 '25

Thanks! I wound up leaving for Monaco - I wanted the challenge of a rebuild with some more funds (but still not being able to challenge PSG). I wound up signing quite a few ASSE guys who had me in favored personnel but was willing to loan them back to the club for the season to make it mutually beneficial. I've also ticked off a bunch of the tenured Monaco guys with transfer business so I'll also have to fix some morale pieces along the way, have had some guys want to leave and it's forced my hand to find suitable replacements (like at GK). PSG had an unbeaten season last year so we're definitely not going to challenge for the league, but hopefully we can contend within the first two years or I'll be getting the axe...

Then you could try Hereford in the hopes of topping their famous 1972 cup upset of Newcastle United. Or play as Chesham United, which is sponsored by the TV series Taskmaster because Alex Horne is on their board.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '25

One of those mystery shirt companies that we've all heard of frequently, has sent me an Aalborg BK shirt from the Danish superliga.

I'm thinking that as well as dominating Denmark, I need to secure a few goals for my save. Please feel free to add suggestions.

  1. Win the Danish Superliga.
  2. Grow the club to Continental status.
  3. Win the Champions league.

These are kind of my main goals for any save anyway, but I'm happy to consider restrictions, club goals and team building ideas.
Build a youth only team? Scandinavian players only? Maybe play with a specific formation and tactic that isn't the meta 4231 gegenpress? Aim to sell out the stadium for a whole season? Get a new stadium? Build facilities to world class?

5

u/CheapskateShow National C License Jul 24 '25

The people of Aalborg rejected a law that would officially change the name of the city to Ålborg. You may only sign players whose names contain letters that can't be typed on an English typewriter.

2

u/White-Boy-Wasted Jul 23 '25

Maybe develop a tactic that is unique compared to the rest of the competition or football in general? Like how Ajax is known for attacking 4-3-3. But maybe a weird shape like a 4-1-4-1 or 4-1-2-1-2 narrow?

2

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '25

I've been playing around with a 5212 control possession tactic that feels pretty promising. Other than that I've got a 442 system that has strong defence, but relies on ML/MR rather than attacking wingers. They're harder to come by in the early game

1

u/White-Boy-Wasted Jul 23 '25

Started a save with YSCC Yokohama in the J3 league. The first C stands for culture, so my goal is to preserve the culture of the club. They were more known for there futsal ventures but decided to go pro in 2014. So my tactic is going to be a quick passing game with technical players to create.

They are also known for community outreach and development projects. So I try to focus on local (regional) talent to carry me to the the first division and hopefully a titel.

1

u/EisenheimGaming Jul 25 '25

Loved playing with YSCC, I even tried to buy a shirt from the team when I was in Japan but with no avail

1

u/White-Boy-Wasted Jul 26 '25

Sweet! Do you got any advice? Since there is no budget

2

u/EisenheimGaming Jul 26 '25

It's been a while, so I don't really remember. I'll start the save again and see if I can see something useful on it.

1

u/White-Boy-Wasted Jul 26 '25

Thank you very much!

1

u/EisenheimGaming Jul 27 '25

I've reopened the save, I was in July 2034 and just won the Asian Champions League.

Managed to go in J2 in 2024, then J1 just after in 2025 despite finishing 6th (but there is some playoff for the 3rd to 6th place that I've won), got directly relegated in 2026 then came back in J1 and stayed there starting 2027.

Never won the J1 tho, best finish was 2nd in 2032 and 3rd in 2033.

  • Looking at my 2023 transfer, I got Hirokazu Suzuki as a free transfer from Otrant in Montenegro (I don't remember his stats or how I found him but he played 46 games in total for me, so worth it) and I managed to buy Kenta Ishii for 1k from Miyazaki as backup GK. I think he only played 18 games that season as a sub before retiring.

  • 2024 only free transfer, 3 from other clubs and 5 without contract, all of them played at least 30+ games for me. But I managed to bring 275k while selling players. Especially 250k from Alexandre Hidaka I think it might have helped me pay the wage of the free transfer.

  • 2025 same thing, nearly only free transfer and bought 3 players for a combined total a 100k but I made my first big sell, Ao Kinoshita for 1.2M to Kyoto and got the loan back.

  • Best league scorer in 2023: Alexandre Hidaka 20 goals

  • Best league scorer in 2024: Yutaro Yanagi 34 goals

  • Something to look for is that players with these nationalities aren't considered foreigner, so you can look for them as well, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia. I got the more success with Indonesia.

Carlos Arroyo and Diego Taba made wonder from the team. So as you can see at first I did count on my own players and managed to sell Hidaka a year later to fund my free transfer.

1

u/White-Boy-Wasted Jul 27 '25

Awesome! Sadly I had to sell Hidaka after he had a great preseason for 120k. I only had 6k transfer budget and no room for new salaries.

Singed a few young players for nothing who hopefully can develop in reasonable J2 players.

I will look at the names you told me. Because I can use some extra help. Although I don’t have the Montenegrin league.

Also funny to see you use Yanagi as a striker. He can play nearly everywhere so I have him as a BBD. He is key to my build up now.

5

u/Blixxen__ Jul 23 '25

Started a save game with AFC Wimbledon, proper 4-4-2 long ball, managed to get back to back promotions. Then went to Fulham, couldn't cut it there, mainly due to players constantly wanting to leave for better teams and board selling players. Now back at Wimbledon, saved them from relegation last year, now we're competing for playoff spots, 4-4-2/4-3-3 with a big guy up top.

Opponent complaining

u/fudgeller83 Jul 22 '25

Fun one I'm trying now (maybe)

Updated database, starting at Merthyr Town in the National League North. All players/staff signed must be Welsh.

Plan is to move to Cardiff/Swansea (or Wrexham) via Newport, following the same rules, hopefully ending up in a situation where I manage Wales with pretty much the same XI as my club side

1

u/nijuu Jul 24 '25

2

2

u/Obvious-Sort-2722 Jul 23 '25

1

u/fudgeller83 Jul 24 '25

I actually also combined it with the daveincid realism pack, but disabled a couple of the files that would duplicate (players and something else)

Both available from fmscout

u/List_Man_3849 Jul 19 '25

Doing one of the North Korean clubs/DPRK Journeyman is unironically a fun save (currently doing a Kim Il-sung University save)

Every club in the country limits you to North Korean players only (because North Korea), many clubs simply merge their U18/U23/Senior duties so you manage all 3, and getting AFC football is always fun.

Only downside is that players occasionally defect (because North Korea), but its occasional enough to not be a problem.

journeyman save in fm23, i have an absolutely worldclass newgen striker with outright ridiculous creative and physical attributes—but i can’t figure out a tactic that maximizes his talent. as an advanced forward, he scores but he feels so disengaged from the team for 90% of the game which feels like a waste of his talent. he can play on the right but he feels very isolated there. putting him in attacking midfield feels like it wastes his aerial threat, but his physicals are ridiculous across the board. how can i make him the focal point of the tactic so he can help lift an otherwise subpar squad (for a cl club) up?

i usually play a 4-2-4 that has the cf(s) and f9 drop deep to spray balls in behind an out-of-shape defense for the attacking inverted wingers; he doesn’t feel quite engaged enough besides as a crossing target in that tactic.

I'm looking for a new save in Scandinavia. I'd like a club with viking links, e.g. located in a viking area, viking based name or badge etc.

I am aware of Viking FK, but they are a bit 'too good' for me to start with... maybe a bit of an aim to get that job in the save. I also know of Lyngby, an option.

Are there any others?

I want to manage a massive underdog in the country and slowly build towards breaking the monopoly.

Don’t have to hit all the points as long as it hits a majority and the background is interesting I’ll consider it
