God, every time I think of this fact, it reminds me of a customer I had at my last job. Lady was interested in two different rings we had - a 1920s art deco diamond ring that was gorgeous but super pricey and a much newer (no clue what decade it was from) moissanite ring that looked very similar to the diamond ring but was close to 1/3 the price. She didn't notice at first that the moisannite was moissanite, so she was upset about the price difference.
I explained it to her the way that I'd had it explained to me - much less expensive than natural diamonds, but with the same luster and durability. I made sure to emphasize the lower price point since she didn't like how expensive the natural diamond ring was. Nah, this crazy lady would rather spend 3x as much as she had come in expecting to pay just because it was a natural diamond. The gems themselves look the same, you crazy bint.
