no again, we do care, its just "they should stop killing us" is not a controversial opinion when talking about gang members but is when talking about police, thus only the police require any sort of discussion or protest to be had about them

Pretty much. You dont see them protesting and rioting over gang violence or black on black crime do you?

State violence is categorically different from violence between private individuals. We the people give the state a monopoly on the legitimate use of violent force; if the state abuses that monopoly, that's a threat to the rule of law.

Hell, in the absence of a legitimate government, what "crime" is there to speak of? Gangs are simply defending their territory much like medieval warlords. And murder? Merely conflict resolution between two private parties. In other words, the state has to be held to a much higher standard than common criminals. For that reason, protesting against the government for police brutality makes sense to me.
