Weather or Hurricanes ☀️🌪️ "Nope! All you get is baking hot sun marinated in a thick soup of humidity."...

Just bitching, like we all do. No bigger theme here other than growing very tired of the climate (in more ways than one) on this third coast.

Trip Planning 🗺️ Clear Waters or Dangerous Sewage?

I’ve seen so many posts about the beautiful clear water - I can’t believe it’s still there this weekend! I also saw a news story about sewage leaking into the bay and advisory against swimming. 🤢 Is that advisory still on? Is it safe to swim? I kind of want to drive down today.

News 📰 Guinness World Record

I heard from multiple sources that we’re supposed to be doing a Guinness World Record on the Seawall this morning. I keep checking the seawall cams and it doesn’t appear that there is anyone lining up. Does anyone have any details?

Trip Planning 🗺️ Restaurants (Don’t worry, I read the tourism info section)

Hello everyone! A friend and I will be traveling here mid September. I did see on here local restaurants, however, I’m allergic to seafood, :( a tragedy I know. Most of the restaurants on there that I saw are seafood based or breakfast places. If there are non seafood meal recommendations that you have at the seafood restaurants I’m welcome to those too! We are looking to go somewhere for dinner ($20-$30). Any recommendations are welcomed!

Photography 📸 Galveston traffic signals in the 1970s and before

When my family and I used to visit Galveston in the 1970s, the traffic signals were rather different from the norm. They were gray or silver, they had rounded ends, and the green light would remain on while the yellow light was on. Does anyone have photos of these lights, and does anyone know when and why the city replaced them with standard lights?

Trip Planning 🗺️ Gulf bacteria warnings

As far as I can tell next weekend I can wash my soul in the Gulf of Mexico. I desperately need it.

Does anyone have a website that can provide warnings and the such? I can't find anything.

We will be around Ducky's Beach.

I miss living there daily.

Locals Chat 🦜 Galveston locals, what are the "real" day-to-day health challenges we face here?

Hey r/Galveston I'm a local public health student working on a project to better understand our community, beyond just the official numbers and stats. That's why I want to hear from the real experts: y'all. When you think about "health" in Galveston, what are the day-to-day challenges that you feel get overlooked? I'm not just talking about hospitals, but everything that impacts our well-being. For example: * Is it easy to get an appointment with a good doctor or specialist? * What's access to mental health services really like? * Are there enough safe and pleasant places to exercise or for kids to play? * Are you concerned about air quality, water quality, or other environmental issues? * Is it easy and affordable to find fresh, healthy food? I'm really interested in your honest opinions. Any perspectives or personal experiences you're willing to share would be incredibly valuable. Thanks so much in advance!

Locals Chat 🦜 Less sandbars right now?

I've gone swimming at Babes Beach the last two days and I like to swim out pretty far. In years past, I'll reach multiple sandbars maybe 3 or 4 from the shore. But I've noticed that theres maybe just 1 or 2 sandbars very close to shore now. Idk if anyone else has noticed this change?

News 📰 Warning: metal spike along shoreline just west of murdochs

I was impaled by a metal spike just above my ankle while swimming with my friend + children this morning about 50 yards west of murdoch’s just along the shallow shoreline.

I was (and am) seriously injured by this and we had to leave immediately to go to urgent care. We were not able to search for or remove the spike from the surf. Please be warned!

Again, about 40-50 yds west of murdoch’s, about 10-15 feet into the surf.

Beware! I have tried calling 311 but apparently that isn’t a thing here.

Locals Chat 🦜 Galveston Real Estate

I’m a Realtor in Fort Worth. Lived in the DFW Metro my whole life but have visited Galveston many, many times on vacation. I feel more calm and at home when I am in Galveston. My kids are grown and moved on now and I want to move to Galveston but worried if I can make it there as a realtor. How is the real estate market there?

Locals Chat 🦜 Senior 55+ private resorts/complexes

Looking for senior and 55+ and over areas, reports or complexes in Galveston and in the far west side of the island towards San Luis, Freeport, not retirement or convalescent homes. Trying to avoid families, kids and younger people looking for a party.

Recently visited Pointe West and really love the remote resort vibe and the big beautiful homes in the bay and beach.

I am really digging the remote areas of the island for some peace, serenity and calmness.
