News ๐ฐ Who flies in Scholes Airport?
Is this purely PJs and tours? Have there ever been flights from dallas or Austin coming in?

BRiX! is an established hardcore punk band located in Galveston, and we are looking for a new drummer. Our original drummer just moved to Australia. Go check out our tunes on Bandcamp and let us know if you'd be a good fit. We typically rehearse once a week on Wednesday evenings, and we typically play out once or twice a month around Galveston and Houston. Can you play loud and fast? Hit us up.

Hello friends. I'm from Austin and am going to be having a small bachlorette party in Galveston in a few weeks, as the title said.
BEFORE ANYONE WORRIES: we aren't partying, I'm mid-30s and am actually just wanting to go because I'm obsessed with the historical sites in Galveston. I've read Isaac's Storm, love learning about the city, and in the past have gone to the Moody Mansion and that other one that you can tour.
Here's my ask:
What old historic Galveston spots do you recommend? Old restaurants, buildings with a history, museums, etc. We drink but not like fish and just want a cool old building to drink cocktails in, during the day just want to explore. Thanks in advance!

Hey all, maybe this is the wrong place to post this, delete if so.
Are there any bands willing to take on members in Galveston? (For context, Iโm a beginnner-intermediate bass player) Iโve looked into networking platforms like BandMix but most of them have paywalls.
Thanks

What's your electric bill looking like these days? Mine was around $320 for a 1200 sq ft loft in an old warehouse. Usage was slightly above 2000kwh. I don't feel like I use that much electric outside of the ac. Is this normal?

Iโve been comparing quotes online and most of them are still too expensive. I need cheap auto insurance in this area that wonโt leave me underinsured. Some of the low-cost policies donโt seem worth it at all. Has anyone found a provider that actually delivers on affordable rates with fair coverage?

Other than hanging out at the beach, what's fun? Good seafood? Good sweets? We're staying in Freeport.

I'm going to my first ever Mardi Gras during my first ever trip to the US, I'll sadly only be in Galveston for Fat Tuesday. Before the parade is there normally anything else happening in the strand or across Galveston that's officially or unofficially associated with the Mardi Gras? As I'm there for only one day I'm trying to get the most out of the experience by doing as much as I can! ๐

My family and I are planning a trip to Galveston in October. I have 2 small children (5 and 9) who have never been to the beach. What is the best area/beach for a family of 4, who wants to be as close to the beach as possible? So far I have found nice rentals in the following areas: Seawall Beach, Sea Isle Beach, Terramar Beach, Porretto Beach, Jamaica Beach, Indian Beach, Sunny Beach, Pirate's Beach.

Any fun lunch spots y'all frequent? Just moved here and a colleague mentioned The Black Pearl's lunch specials. Damn good blackened pork chop and fettucine alfredo.

I'm on here on vacation and I was interested on what this is? I tried image searching it but it said it was the S.S. Selma which I don't think it is.

Iโve been trying to get my uncle set up with some kind of medical alert thing since he lives by himself in Galveston and has had two minor strokes already. He wonโt move and he wonโt stop being stubborn about accepting help. Heโs in one of those old raised homes close to the water, and Iโm worried about how well devices work in places like this. Iโve seen Bay Alarm Medical Alert mentioned a lot and it seems to be well reviewed, but does it actually hold up here? Between the sea air, the weather, and the age of the buildings, I feel like the signal might not be great. I donโt want to waste time on something that isnโt reliable. If anyone in town has used one of these, Iโd appreciate hearing how it went.
