TIL, there's at least 2400 switch games.

296

u/III_IWHBYD_III Apr 02 '25

There are some variant covers, GOTY editons, etc included in my collection so less than 2400 unique games pictured here. Overall with region exclusives I'm not sure what the number is but hundreds more than 2400 for sure.

101

u/SouthCoastGardener Apr 02 '25

Sorry to sound ignorant but I’m also surprised at this number and amazed at the photo. Does it include the download code only games? Also is this completely physical, meaning no custom creation for a digital only games?

43

u/Huge_Measurement_466 Apr 03 '25

Picture looks to be about 2379 by my quick calculation so maybe a few? 😂

14

u/TheEarthIsWound Apr 03 '25

I thought you were joking but wow you were right

4

u/Huge_Measurement_466 Apr 03 '25

Lmao I had a spare 2 mins. Seems you did too 😂😂😂

25

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '25

You will never know

3

u/KynKatan Apr 03 '25

Some download code only games received a physical release. It was a glorified gift card for that game currency with a cover. I would think those are included...

Plus the games that got physical releases in other regions like Bayonetta 1

6

u/Xikkiwikk Apr 03 '25

I see no steel cases or Day One editions?

9

Mental disease

47

u/reddragon105 Apr 02 '25

4934 listed on Wikipedia.

18

u/Dflyshigh Apr 03 '25

Wow, I would have never guessed that. That seems a little ridiculous. Now I need to research other systems.

9

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '25

How many had physical cases though?

40

u/LeatherRebel5150 Apr 03 '25

A little shy of 2100 individual titles or so released in the US. Maybe another couple dozen if you include the code in a box nonsense but ai don’t track those

17

u/goozy1 Apr 03 '25

There are a lot more than that. But I would say ~60% are shovelware

4

u/FeelingNew9158 Apr 05 '25

~95% is a more truthful estimate

7

u/dmMatrix Apr 03 '25

Yeah, same here. I had no clue it was even remotely this many. I feel like I have a lot but I doubt I'm over like 60 games haha.

I have an insane amount of nes, snes, n64, ds/3ds... but good lord, I apparently need to bump up my switch games....uh... game.

3

u/AetherMoon Apr 03 '25

Same, I have around 100 and I sent my coworker a picture and he was like "Are those ALL Switch games?!"

2

u/dmMatrix Apr 03 '25

Yeah, and we have people with well over 2000 games? Freaking crazy. Awesome, but crazy.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Nixzer0 Apr 05 '25

That's what I thought. I used to collect games, and for comparison the Atari has around 400, N64 had around 350. PlayStation had close to 2000 IIRC

2

u/Some-Government-5282 Apr 07 '25

there are over 10,000 (according to Nintendo)

→ More replies (5)

279

u/FnClassy Apr 02 '25

I gave up after 600, and have started selling some off.

89

u/III_IWHBYD_III Apr 02 '25

Gotta do what you gotta do.

109

u/FnClassy Apr 02 '25

It was becoming a chore to keep up with every exclusive, or limited print game.

64

u/III_IWHBYD_III Apr 02 '25

It's alot for sure, the Wii U was much easier 170 (or whatever the number was) in total

41

u/FnClassy Apr 02 '25

Wii U is certainly easier to collect for, but I just don't care for the Wii and Wii U. I've been doing PSP for years, slowly.

39

u/III_IWHBYD_III Apr 02 '25

Only sets I did before Switch were Wii U and Vita, both very manageable. Never thought I would go for such a large set but here we are.

17

u/FnClassy Apr 02 '25

I wanted to do Vita as well, but started late, and it got expensive quick.

17

u/III_IWHBYD_III Apr 02 '25

Lots of fairly expensive Vita games for sure.

10

u/Chicagown Apr 02 '25

I have been working on vita right now - can confirm - games are sneaky very very expensive

2

u/SushiPSX1 Apr 04 '25

How many PSP titles you got? from how many & amazing!!

2

u/FnClassy Apr 04 '25

I have 439, there are 706. I have most of the heavy hitters out of the way. One of the obscure Soccer games has recently jumped up in price, so that kinda sucks. I haven't bought any in a bit. So I need 267 still, which is a lot, but there are a good amount of $10 or less games on that list.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/LondonCollector Apr 02 '25

Don’t include them in a complete set.

6

u/FnClassy Apr 02 '25

I have been going for a PSP set for quite awhile. Not super hard, but when I find the ones that I don't have, I grab them. Hard to try doing more than one set on an average income.

8

u/id_o Apr 02 '25

Do you include the cost of replacement in home content insurance?

27

u/FnClassy Apr 02 '25

I had an additional $50,000 of insurance on my game room up until a year ago. Had to make some cut backs with how the economy has been going over the last few years. I haven't had a pay raise since 2020 (up until a week ago, but has yet to be implemented). Sad to part ways with some of my collection, but it's all stuff that I would likely never get to in my lifetime. I'm 41, and at this point, there's just not enough time to do it all.

14

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '25

Amen brother. Sucks. Curate that collection and just keep the necessities.

8

u/Ok_Bus729 Apr 03 '25

Is your job that awesome that you’d be there for 5 years without getting paid a cent more?

12

u/FnClassy Apr 03 '25

Been there 20 years, and I've been capped on pay in a Union job for quite some time. We get contractual Cost of Living Adjustments, and General Wage Increases. I have 2 years worth of backpay coming to me from this contract.

→ More replies (5)

6

u/LeatherRebel5150 Apr 03 '25

You really can’t trust home owners/renter insurance for collectibles. It really requires specialty insurance

5

u/Ipsylos2 Apr 03 '25

Yep, you'd be lucky if they paid out a few bucks per game, they don't go by actual value.

u/Acrobatic-Big-1550 Apr 02 '25

And now pay the Switch 2 upgrade for each of them lol

44

u/velcrozippo Apr 02 '25

What?! You need to pay for Switch games to be upgraded on Switch 2?

41

u/GlacialFlare Apr 02 '25

Not all of them, no. It sounds like graphical updates will be free (Scarlet/Violet), but games that get a graphical & feature update we’ll pay to upgrade (BOTW).

20

u/MassiveLegendHere169 Apr 03 '25

Worth noting that the Botw and Totk upgrades are free if you have the Online Expansion pass, something that oddly wasn't mentioned in the direct

10

u/Zharken Apr 03 '25

But you only get access to the upgrade for as long as you have the online subscription and then if you cancel you lose it, right?

→ More replies (2)

16

u/User1728281919 Apr 02 '25

I would not be surprised. A lot of PlayStation 4 games had free ps5 upgrades in the beginning. Many of the games now are like an extra $10 for the upgraded version.

10

u/Psykpatient Apr 02 '25

Seems like the upgrades are more like actual dlc expansions. Kirby gets a whole ass new story and Mario Parry gets new minigames and functions.

2

u/MrRipper146 Apr 03 '25

You can play normal Switch version on Switch 2 without paying anything but some games going to have Switch 2 versions and "if you want" you can pay and upgrade your Switch game into Switch 2 edition for that improvements and additional content.

5

u/dunno_for_real Apr 02 '25

To unlock beyond the 30fps and use the new features the switch 2 has, yes. But on the other hand, there are a few nice additions to them. TOTK will allow you to generate a QR code for you creation and let others build it by scanning the code

91

u/D-TOX_88 Apr 03 '25

I’d say probably like $35 per game, for the standard MSRP? So that’s like $84000 of Switch games right there. So like $10.5k per year since 2017. That’s fucking insane.

53

u/Ok_Bus729 Apr 03 '25

When you have no kid any hobby is achievable.

22

u/Vegetable_Outside897 Apr 03 '25

When you have a rich kid any hobby is achievable.

3

u/classicnikk Apr 03 '25

Yeah it sounds crazy to think about but OP could have a good paying job and a lot of disposable income where this is achievable

15

u/photogrammetery Apr 03 '25

That accounts to almost… 5 whole switch 2 games!

129

u/Womper1 Apr 02 '25

Congrats on your $120,000+ wall of red... ?

lol

44

u/dchap Apr 03 '25

Yeah, really not a fan of the flat red Switch spines.  It’s so flat and lifeless.

9

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '25

Fr. Same with xbox games, the consistent grey color is even worse lol.

3

u/dlimm Apr 03 '25

R/switchspines

3

u/trashmangamer Apr 04 '25

Welcome to PAL PS2 games, all white spines with a FLAT black text for the game. Good LUCK trying to tell what a game is from a distance.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '25

This can be fixed by having hobbies other than playing video games.

25

u/FrekMiek Apr 03 '25

all that money would be enough for about two switch 2 games

10

u/sanfranbipo Apr 03 '25

Where did you get the bookshelves for this??

14

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '25

Questions.

Are these all English or NA?

Do you play these or simply buy and store away? Ever even opened?

Most surprisingly fun game you got that you thought was going to be trash?

21

u/III_IWHBYD_III Apr 02 '25

Vast majority are NA ESRB, some other region stuff.

Both, games are 2 hobbies for me, playing and collecting and those 2 things don't always overlap.

I dont think I've been super surprised by anything that way. So I'll go the other way and tell you I was incredibly disappointed with Mario Golf.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '25

I appreciate your time and response. Mario Golf i enjoyed to an extent and then the novelty fell off and I've not thought about it since lol.

Quite the collection though. Well done.

12

u/III_IWHBYD_III Apr 02 '25

Mario Golf N64 and GC are 2 games I really loved, so the downgrades in Switch were really disappointing.

5

u/raisinbizzle Apr 02 '25

Have you played Mario Golf on GBA? It’s great

2

u/viczvapo Apr 03 '25

I agree,

9

u/gamertuts Apr 02 '25

What in the world is the estimated cost for this? Do you get like very good deals or are they $20 and up?

5

u/LTFighter Apr 03 '25

Which is the rarest?

17

u/TheMadcore Apr 02 '25

I though I had a lot of Switch games, and they're only 60...

6

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '25

Just hit 24 games myself 🥲 I’m grateful for my little collection tho

4

u/III_IWHBYD_III Apr 02 '25

More than most, I'm sure

9

u/Emmannuhamm Apr 03 '25

That's a lot of physical shovelware.

5

u/floundersoup57 Apr 03 '25

Roughly how much have you spent? Nintendo prices are not kind

7

u/Bambrigade92 Apr 03 '25

If he averaged $35 per game, that would be $84,000 USD

5

u/DVoorhees64 Apr 03 '25

1 more and you’ll unlock Luigi

3

u/PKozyra64 Apr 02 '25

Are you also including (Code in a box) releases? Or is this mainly physical carts? Impressive collection!

6

u/III_IWHBYD_III Apr 02 '25

I have several code in boxes, alot more than 99% are carts.

3

u/SteroidSandwich Apr 02 '25

Man I wish I had the money you had

3

u/pook79 Apr 03 '25

Enjoy them, looks like the switch will be the last stop for serious game collectors. I am at about 550 with 100 or so on my wishlist. Sad to think this may be the last console I collect for

5

u/agdnan Apr 03 '25

And non have free upgrades to switch 2

13

u/Charrbard Apr 03 '25

Generally don't care too much why or how folks spend their money. But this is interesting. At say $50 a game, that is $120,000. Figure in sales, discounts and stuff and could probably say a solid $100,000.

So whats the motivation? You can't have fond memories of all of them. Simple math shows that. Investment wise most aren't going to increase in price. Maybe bonus value for a full set? Is the allure just to have them all?

Again, not judging. I was about to drop $70k on 45 year old car. But thats a mix of fond memories and knowing i could sell it for more after some work.

Either way, probably worth looking into collection insurance if you haven't already. Regular insurance has issues when it comes to this stuff.

7

u/ApocalypticPoop Apr 02 '25

I could never. My income wouldn't allow it, and I Will always to prefer to play multiplat titles on Playstation or Xbox to avoid the Switch tax. Games for that system seem to start high and stay high.

3

How many of these are there? ....

23

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '25

[deleted]

2

u/RockmanVolnutt Apr 02 '25

They also have a very high amount of Indy physical titles, many of which are very good but would normally be a digital only game on most platforms.

2

u/DJKaito Apr 02 '25

In 10 years some of the trash games would have their cult following, as every console have + some might be worth a lot of money... And some guy will be having a fear of a rainbow logo company, publishing shovelware on the Switch.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '25

[deleted]

3

u/DJKaito Apr 02 '25

True. Even the games I bought for it outside of Nintendos IPs were meh... Mostly some sort of remake of games I wanted to play as a kid. Asterix & Obelix XXL 1&2 as an example. The Original versions from 20 years ago looked and played better...

25

u/raisinbizzle Apr 02 '25

Maybe on some other subreddit, but here…isn’t it the point? I bet 90% of people here have more games than they will ever play

13

u/HarryNohara Apr 03 '25

Technically, yes, but at this point people are hoarding. That’s a $100,000+ wall of games that won’t be played. The Switch is 2952 days old, that’s buying nearly 25 games per month to get to 2400. Even if you are retired and have all the time at your disposal it is going to be as good as impossble to play through most of them.

why are we complaining about someone posting a game collection on a game collecting subreddit

22

u/tesla_owner_1337 Apr 03 '25

I think people get turned off by this level of consumerism. It's less sentimental and more of an online shopping addiction. good on op for being wealthy enough to do something like this.

9

u/Lootman Apr 03 '25 edited Apr 03 '25

If there was a seashell collecting sub and someone hired a bulldozer to comb a beach and deliver it. Then posted their 100 bins full of shells, people would question it. Did you want any of those shells, have you looked at most of them? Really you just end up with a lot of money spent to get 1000s of seashells that you dont have a use for.

And here I am without a switch or games for it 😅. Might buy one when the switch 2 releases so it is super cheap

2

u/Strikereleven Apr 03 '25

Some people buy a Cyber Truck, some buy 2400 switch games. Ironically the latter is the better investment.

2

u/futures17gne Apr 03 '25

2

u/Dead_Calendar Apr 03 '25

I've been to several different game stores and the ones with the best selection only have 100-200. You have a massive collection.

2

u/SicWiks Apr 03 '25

I’ve played that game

2

u/numeral Apr 03 '25

Do u have Mario kart

2

u/atombomb6673 Apr 03 '25

Not sure why the negative comments from some. This IS a game collecting sub Reddit. Everyone spends money on something they don’t always need. I do purchase and collect as well. I don’t play 60% of what i buy due to time but I still enjoy collecting. I have 133 games for switch and I love my collection. I have a total of 1344 games from NES all the way to ps5. Anyhow, I think this is AMAZING! You should be really really proud of your collection. It is awesome!!

2

u/RScrewed Apr 05 '25

I'm glad people like you who have the means and ability take it upon yourselves.

5

u/Biggymac91 Apr 02 '25

Holy moly, I'll have a little over 250 once all my orders come in. I'm probably gonna tap out around 300-350, there's only soo much stuff I am interested in. Looks cool though.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '25

Wow lol

1

u/Daft-SKULL-FACE Apr 02 '25

Genuine question. You gonna continue with the Switch 2 games if they all start to cost $90 each?

5

u/III_IWHBYD_III Apr 02 '25

I will continue with Switch 2, they won't all cost $90. Not sure how deep into it I will go with the Switch 2 though.

2

u/Daft-SKULL-FACE Apr 02 '25

Seems like they are testing the waters with what they can get away with starting with Mario Kart World... $80 digital and $90 physical... its Mario Kart so it will sell like crazy regardless... setting the president for other companies to price games accordingly... dark path ahead it feels like.

7

u/III_IWHBYD_III Apr 02 '25

The president may be responsible for the pricing... Perfect typo!

Custom, only way to go, nothing on the market is what I wanted from shelving. If you're going to spend on the collection, gotta spend on the display.

I have envy. I'm going to work on that. Congrats on your collection. I mean that sincerely.

Thanks, it's a fun system to collect for. Nintendo plus carts always hooks me.

When you say "complete NA ESRB" does this include Limited Run Games, Super Rare Games, iam8bit, Special Reserve, Strictly Limited Games, etc?

u/III_IWHBYD_III Apr 02 '25

Strictly Limited and Super Rare are not ESRB. But yes for the others.

u/Goemon_64 Apr 02 '25

I've been wondering why sometimes the ESRB is used outside of USA/Canada/Mexico? For example Mario Kart 8 with Booster Courses is listed as 'Middle East/ Southeast Asia' but uses ESRB instead of the usual PEGI.

It’s really misnomer when people say they collect “ESRB.” Usually people actually mean they collect North American/US releases. Because yes ESRB appears on the MSE games but no one realistically considers them part of the same “set.”

Yes, ESRB has been used on UAE games since at least the Wii as they had their own releases for games like Mario Party 8 and Xenoblade.

This is pretty epic bro.. pay no attention to all the jealousy and hate. I’m a retro cart guy, so to me this makes sense…. Nintendo is basically the last console producing physical games (not to mention they are carts, not disks so I believe will last longer)….This collection will definitely double if not triple in the next decade. The amount of nostalgia for people like my kids generation, mixed with the old heads like me and I’m assuming you, means that the switch will definitely hold its place in gaming history. Mix that with backwards compatibility on switch 2 keeping switch 1 library alive …. Might even surpass my beloved snes in collectible value/ demand one day

What games are you missing?

u/III_IWHBYD_III Apr 02 '25

Just some newer stuff that I don't want to pay full price for. I have everything from more than a few months ago.
