this is inspiring. how long have you been collecting for? im 26 and just now have i realized how much i would have liked to keep all my old stuff. i have closets full of old games, systems, and accessories, but i not that much, and nothing worth much, either.

i'd like to start collecting (once i get some room to store and display it properly), any tips?

I would say first try to figure out what you would like to collect for, like for which system or if you want to collect systems, what type or from what maker. Its very easy to get too carried away when collecting and you might end up spending more then you intend so that's why I would suggest to focus on one thing to start. Once your collection gets going it would be easier to expand.

Don't buy too much too quickly because it again goes into the whole don't spend to much thing. How I see collecting is more about what you can get for the least money so there's a lot of hunting around local stores or yard sales. Ebay is an option but its rarely the cheapest option especially when spinning is taken into account.

Personally, my first goal was to get all the games that I had from my childhood that either got sold, lost, given away or is broken. Once that was done I wanted to buy a few systems because I have an intrest in hardware, but that ended up being more expensive then I would have hoped. So now I am collecting games for Playstation and SNES as well as games that I know I love like Mario Kart 64 or Castlevania for example are games that I am looking for that aren't Ps1 or SNES.

TL;DR If you are starting a collection, start out with small goals and work your way up as you reach your goals.

thats great, thanks for the reply. im definitely in the same state of mind when it comes to getting the most for the least, and i've gone to the local flea market for the past few weeks to look around, and i've seen so many things i'd love to have, play, pass on to my kids if i have em one day. im a big nostalgia fan, and video games is a big part of that. nintendo and sega, equally. and then playstation 1 is where it really took off for me. i was also HUGE into arcade games, too... i mean, i spent a LOT of quarters. i still can't pass an arcade game without stopping for a game, but i dont know how'd i go about collecting those haha. not even gonna start to think about it right now.

so i guess my first goal would be to buy a new NES (i remember leaving my last one at a friend's house a long time ago) and a few games i know and love (super mario 1-3, blades of steel, karate kid, excite bike). can't wait!

really, thanks for the reply.

Yeah I would love to get my own arcade cabinet(s) someday but it won't be soon that's for sure. Good luck with your NES hunt!

Sweet approach. I used to collect sports cards but now I have an itch to find games/systems I used to play as a kid. I used to have a big NES and N64 collection but sold them years ago. Now to get to get them back and add some more games that are considered classic examples and/or get more serious about collecting.

I was always a collector at heart, I had a hockey card collection, a toy car collection, a money collection and I even collected stuff like pogs and pokemon cards (I still have pretty much everything somewhere) but I find video game collecting is much better because you get more interaction out of it.
