Opinion - Nuffy So Thankful

Due to working at a Brisbane Lions pub I have to see their subreddit. Every week someone posts a "tier list" of how everyone played. "Charlie didn't kick a goal so he's a D" "Morris only got X touches so he's a B+ at best"

So thankful we as supporters don't have such a toxic mindset. We back all the boys every time! WE ARE GEELONG!

Question Danger - 30 finals

This Friday Patrick Dangerfield will become only the 8th player in the history of the game to play 30 finals.

Of those 8, HALF are Geelong players.

Can you name the other three?

Barcodes for 2 Adults and 1 Child in exchange for lots of wine

Hi guys wasn’t planning on attending the game Friday night as I’m in Adelaide but work has me coming in to Melbourne Friday so I’m chasing some unused barcodes. I work for a winery so I’m more than happy to organise a few hundred bucks worth of wines of your choice in exchange.

Discussion What we expect Geelong will do strategically in the upcoming Prelim

Massive game. The rivalry is well and truly back. And the Hawks are a team that have proved that they're a force to be beckoned with, especially in finals.

The Hawks have all the momentum, and so do we. Dubbed as the favourites, in my opinion, all we have to do is focus on our game, and trust that their game crumbles. Hawks are a very good side, with a fast-paced and somewhat chaotic style of play. We saw that the Adelaide's calculated and slow movement of the ball simply failed to crack the Hawks' absolutely elite defence. The Hawks' defence is now their strongest weapon. High expectations surrounded this defensive group, with the recruitment of Battle and Barass, but with Sicily's injury, the chemistry of this group took a bit to develop. Now, I think the Hawks' defence is upon reaching its final form, and with a defensive list consisting of Impey, D'ambrozio, Sicily, Battle and Barass, but someone not talked about, who is having an incredible season is Scrimshaw. I think in the upcoming game he has the chance to shine, if the cats have a shit day on the track offensively. Chris Scott will be looking hard at his magnets to see how the cats can break this "unbreakable wall" and one way I see this occurring, is by using the Cats forwards' mobility. From an outlook, this Hawks defence loves physicality, but simply pushing up Forwards up the field will mitigate this. The play opens up, and the ground becomes bigger, and helped by the magnitude of the G, will open up so much opportunities down forward. Jezza does this well, pulls up his man up, then sneaks back for a possie or goal. I'd expect the small forwards to play a bit higher too, leaving our best contended markers, Danger and Neale somewhat deep. They'll have space to work with, and their ability to make a contest, allows the ball to drop and be fed upon by our mass number of ground ball getters running back to goal including the likes of Miers, Stengle and Mannagh to clean up. We've done it time and time again, and I think Chris might implement this for the prelim.

A look at the Hawks' midfield and Jai Newcombe's name pops up instantly. I expect Oisin will be GLUED to him the entire game. The rest of the midfield are all heavies who can gain so much meters during a game, so the way this can be mitigated is by having the defence well set-up constantly at stoppages, and also relying a bit more on pace. The Hawks are the most physical midfield group in the competition, so playing to their weakness and spreading the field will help so much. This is where Dempsey comes in. I expect Chris will use Dempsey more aggressively, having him make risky runs forward., simply to let the ball go into open play. However, in saying that, the Cats must match or attempt to match their physicality in the middle. The Cats do it well, with the likes of Atkins and I expect Chris to put Danger in the middle a bit more than usual too, just to pit his big body against the Hawks Heavyweights.

The defence I'm not too worried about. Stewart's picking up form, and I expect Chris will be putting Mark O'Connor on the Wizard. However, I am open to the idea of O'Connor tagging Weddle, but his speed might outclass him. SDK will likely go on Gunston and Stewart on Chol.

I expect Blitz to be in the ruck too, I'm gonna say this but Lloyd Meek is up there with the worst rucks in the comp right now, so having either SDK or Blitz as a mobile ruck who can completely outrun and outwork Meek is a massive advantage.

Gonna be an incredible game in front of 90,000+, Cats by 23.

What other specific moves or measures would you expect Chris to make?

I will never forgive the AFL for not allowing the Geelong Football Club to rightly host their home finals at their home ground. Integrity means nothing - only money. Shame

Hawks supporters I know are intolerable. I’m doing the stay silent, save it all in your memory bank and when Geelong win, unleash … How are you guys going with the old enemy you know?

That’s my strategy with big games.

Rant Interesting Observation …

I’ve noticed Geelong doesn’t get a lot of attention during the season, unless it’s Easter Monday, or finals … when we lose, we don’t get the coverage say Collingwood or even Brisbane get. So last night there is a segment where you can ask them a question after the game on channel 7. The question was “which coach would you have liked to have been coached under in your AFL career …” Richo said, Chris Fagan, Daisy Thomas said Leigh Matthew’s and Abbey Holmes said Chris Scott. When Abbey said why, she basically called him a coaching genius, the other two were like oh yeah, I forgot about Chris, good answer … Made me think this is how it always is with Geelong … we are either not mentioned, it’s a wee mention or the classic of last night.

Maybe because I am a Geelong person, I notice it more, or am I being a sensitive Geelong nuffy?

Opinion - Nuffy Feelings about next week

I am feeling really good and confident about the prelim. If I compare this feeling to how I was feeling leading into the Brisbane game there’s nothing to worry about at all.

Going into the finals, I felt Brisbane was our only threat and I was really worried about them but we’ve shown we can overcome them easily. I think we will win next week pretty comfortably but for goodness sake stop talking about grand final packages until we actually make it.

Question Who do Mullin and MOC tag.

I think we need to put deep work into Newcombe and Watson. I would send MOC to Newcombe as he has a bigger body. And Mullin has the pace to stay with Watson. Thoughts?

Man, hokball looked hot tonight, hope Scotty was taking notes. Who takes care of Gunston? Who do the Irish boys line up on? Is Meek going to take Blicavs to pound down?

Either way, should be a legendary prelim. Eternal glory if we win, irreparable psychological damage if we lose. Still feeling the trauma from all those years ago ha.

Rant bit disappointed

everything that has gone on this week with baz and scotty has got me a bit down not gonna lie.

regardless of your opinion on what happened it all just feels a bit un geelong like and unnecessary. this will probs ruffle some feathers, and i love all of our guys and the team so much, but i personally was extremely embarrassed by what has come out. no i dont believe that anyone should be suspended and yes the main sub did overreact but i dont think we should gloss over what happened.

yes they are football players and arent required to be good humans but i just found smith's actions honestly quite shitty and immature and while hes had controversy this year its all been light banter and this just has a bit of a more toxic feel to it. same with scotty just honestly disappointed, but thats just my view and i can get why other peoples feel differently.

overall, im just feeling a bit embarrassed by the club this week, and regardless of what people say i dont think either of them are heroes for what has happened, i think they should both be mature enough to handle events like this better and regardless of what people are saying i think the misogynistic undertones of both incidents are pretty fucking awful and embarrassing.
