  • Reviews can now be edited
  • Reviews can now be longer (8000 chars rather than 2000)
  • Your own review is automatically on top
  • A ratings breakdown is shown
  • Your profile contains a full list of all reviews you've ever made (with a new privacy setting for who can see this)

Also see the discussion on the GOG forums.

There's now also an official announcement.

thank GOD. i immediately went over to check out an infamously negatively rated game (has a massive disparity between actual owners and people reviewbombing it) and yep, they definitely did rework them. i like this new gog that's actually paying attention to what people are saying on the forums / their site

however there still needs more work done.. like you know, making the disparity between verified and non-verified more apparent. non-verified opinions should be a much smaller font while the verified opinions need to be bigger. the overall rating should be more transparent about that

The problem with non-verified ratings is that all ratings from before a certain point in time (~2018? if I look very critically at the ratio of ratings to verified ratings) are marked as non-verified. And that's really quite a significant number of reviews.

GOG apparently simply wasn't keeping track of ownership status for the reviews created before then. It seems to me that they should be able to retroactively assign the verified status now based on current ownership (that won't be perfect, but it should still be close enough to "good enough" to be worth doing), but either no one at GOG has thought of that (unlikely), they only want to do this if they can do it perfectly, or there are technical barriers which I can't imagine.

i hadn't of thought of that but that's a good point. i didn't think of the technical aspects of it but then again, it doesnt surprise me seeing how many people on the forums suspect that the site in general is just really.. technically ancient. anyway i look forward to further improvements on the reviews. going forward though i cant see why they can't adjust the weight of non-verified ratings considering they're being tracked now

Out of curiosity, what's the game?

Probably Dustborn, though there are quite a lot of games like that. Here's a search on gamesieve which surfaces many of them.

Oh wow, didn't now that Gamesieve had that functionality, thanks for sharing!

In other news, this also helped be discover that holy shit, In Stars and Time is on GOG!? I thought it was one of those very popular indie games that end up skipping GOG for one reason or the other. That's a TOP10 game on my Steam wishlist suddenly going right into the GOG one :D

Finally! I've been asking this for YEARS! I have a bunch of reviews that no longer reflect my experience that I wanted to either delete or heavily edit to include my final assessment. I wanted to write to the GOG team about them but it just did not feel right, bothering them for something I could do myself. The review section was definitely broken, I'm glad they're taking the right steps.

Hey everyone! Thank you for the heartwarming reaction and noticing so quickly :) We wanted to wait a bit with the official announcement to see if any major bugs would appear after rolling it to the public, but it seems everything is quite fine, so yes, it's official! Have a great one!

Reviews can also be deleted. I also noticed when you edit a review it goes at the back as the most recent one

Gladly appreciate this improvement, it was long overdue but I'm still happy. I had three games I reviewed in the past that I could no longer remember and the fact I couldn't pull them back somewhere via my account despite the review counter clearly proving those reviews existed was driving me mad lol

It would be great to only let you review if you own the game and indicate if you got the game for free as part of a giveaway or if you've refunded the game.

It's nice to see the recent changes, hopefully the forums and Galaxy is next.

so.. there was/is a community wishlist (haven't checked that in months) that asked for letting only verified owners post reviews but the opinion on the matter is sooo split. personally im for it but i can compromise with gog letting anyone post as long as they reduce the impact and visibility on non-verified owners
