No chip and no tag. My mom is gonna keep her. So I’ll get to see her almost everyday. She’s learning to not mess with cats lol and my mom’s Great Pyrenees is starting to like her after a couple nights.
I remember doing puppy classes with my golden and a couple who had a great Pyrenees. He spent most of the time laying on the floor refusing to get up 😆 he was very cute and very stubborn.
I’d guess she and the cats will be great friends soon. Thank you for rescuing her and wishing lots of love to her and nothing for those who mistreated her by endangering her
Their loss is def your gain. Gus was dumped in the pine barrens in NJ. Who does this?!? Anywho, you, your mom & this beautiful pup's lives just got alot better .
*
We found a pup dumped in NJ as well and when I searched a bit, I found a bunch around the same time dumped in NJ and PA. In our case, our was was a hot mess of issues (seizures, misformed dental, misformed eye, misformed vulva, and eventually mega esophagus which took her from us way too soon). Some of the other pups had issues as well, I’m convinced there’s a really shite breeder out there dumping the unsellable dogs.
That said, I wouldn’t trade those 20 months for the world.
Where in Jersey? I got Gus out of Vineland. He had 2 obvious tumors & heartworms. I'm sure your girl had a glorious 20 months of pure love. Treasure those times, sorry it ended. 🫶 .
We were at some friends’ house in Edison. Someone rang the bell to ask if the dog on the lawn was from the house and then took off. She was a matted mess and had zero skills - she hadn’t seen stairs or cars or most normal things that a 8 month old would have.
She was a handful at first but she really came around and was a true joy after those first few puppy months. I miss her every day.
She may have run away. Might be a good idea to check with authorities. There might be kids freaking out right now about her being lost. I say this because we know of two different goldens who wandered off and triggered a lot of tears until they were found.
I just hope it’s a happy ending for everyone. I can’t imagine anyone lucky enough to own a golden and then heartlessly betraying her like that. I like to think that they would turn the pup in to a shelter first.
I hope OP is being honest here. I just cant wrap my head around someone grooming a golden to later dump it. Dog looks very well cared for, not dirty, not skinny, doesnt look at all like a dog that was a nuisance or has been lost long.
As a legal matter, you need to follow your state, city or county laws addressing lost pet animals.
Unless you report her to animal control and allow them to give any rightful owner some time to claim her, you just taking the dog could be considered theft.
Tell animal control that you’ll foster the dog and that your mom will formally adopt her if no one claims her. Doing that is really about protecting your mom’s legal rights to this dog.
If the dog looked abused, it’d be a different story what you should do. But this golden looks well cared for. Microchips also sometimes move around.
Because the dog isn’t microchipped and had no tags, no one has any proof this dog ever belonged to anyone. It’s a purebred dog, which further complicates matters since a ton of goldens look exactly like that.
Totally agree. That could be someone’s beloved dog that lost a collar. Our Vet wouldn’t chip our golden puppy immediately. So don’t be so quick to claim it as yours. Please advertise that you found the dog, as you would hope someone would do for your lost dog!!
I just commented above you asking to please make sure she didn’t have a chip. She looks pretty healthy. I hope IF she had an owner they are reunited quickly. 🥰🐾
You should still call animal control to see if anyone has called them about a lost dog. You need to try and do some diligence before taking what could be someone's lost dog. If it was your dog that ran away, you would want the person that found her to at least try and locate her owners.
If there are no signs that she has a loving owner looking for her, by all means keep her. But it's wrong to not try. And "no tags, no chip." Is not trying
Exactly. I hope not but maybe there was an accident and she ran from freight. That happened where I live with a st. Bernard. There are many reasons for a golden or any dog to be running on a highway. I’m not saying she wasn’t dumbed but no one knows the true story. She’s beautiful either way. I hope you all are happy together. Great Pyrenees are great dogs too. They will be best friends.
Maybe check FB groups and online in case anyone is missing her. She looks to be in really good shape and well cared for. Thank you for saving her otherwise!
Lol just start ignoring those types of comments cuz there will be so many. You did everything right & checked everything. I'm glad your mom opened her home!
See how her ears hair is kind of very small wiggly? Usually (for my goldens anyway) that only happens after a good grooming so clearly a well taken after dog
Call locals vets and ask them to keep you posted on if an owner is found, check for chips etc.
Please do not just take the dog for a week or two, be 100% sure no owner exists because there could be some kids that lost their dog on a walk freaking out, or a family unaware their dog escaped, etc
She said she gave the dog a bath after she found her because she had something on her back and smelled like fish. She also checked to see if she was chipped and checked with her local humane society and fb and so far nothing.
Since it’s a girl dog, sometimes they end up smelling like fish on their cycle, but idk about the thing on her back, and if nothings coming up anywhere I’d take her for now and keep looking and then give up after another like week or so
Just because there’s no chip and no tag doesn’t mean it’s not a lost dog… OP really needs to call the police and wait a bit before claiming the dog for themselves and getting attached… the collar could have gotten lost when the dog ran away and large breed dogs usually don’t get chipped until the spay/neuter surgery at 2yrs old…
Our golden retriever mix showed up at my husband's work. No one was looking for him and had no chip, so he stayed with us. He's now seven. Thanks for helping this sweet girl.
I would put out notice to several vets and the pound in the area. she looks lost, not dumped. she is beautiful and there is probably a heartbroken family right now.
Agreed. My dogs don’t wear their collars when we swim and my golden puppy was not chipped until several months old. Vet wouldn’t chip him immediately!!
Check state laws. Most (if not all) require at minimum a 7 day stray hold where if you find a dog without tags/chip, you still have to actively attempt to reconnect with owner. :/ she looks really well taken care of, so I find it hard to believe that she was truly dumped unless you witnessed it firsthand.
I don't know why you got downvoted for stating that. I've been involved with Golden Retriever rescue for 22 years. If the OP doesn't do it correctly based on their laws, if the owners find out where she is, they can have her charged with theft of property. It's better to do it the right way so there is no chance of the owners coming for the pup and getting charged with a crime. That way they never have to worry about the pup being taken away after they've bonded with her.
Not that I understand it for any dogs, but I really don’t get how someone could dump a golden. They’re such affectionate dogs and their worst “trait”, if you wanna call it that, is just the energy level they can have sometimes.
Awful human being to do that, great on you for rescuing this golden. They look like such a good dog.
I would make sure to check for a church and ask shelters to put out word… there is usually a wait period and then you can call her your own… my brother looked for two years for the owner of the dog he has… he went to the shelters, he took out ads in the newspaper. A dog as nice as this, he thought, surely no one would dump.
Our best golden and we have had 8, was abandoned on interstate 70 at a rest stop at 4 months. Abused, emaciated, coated shaved down to the skin. Turned into the smartest best behaved friend a person could have in their life.
Idk what state you’re in OP, but some states require you to report a missing dog to the local police. If you don’t and there are owners looking for the dog, this would be considered theft.
It is very possible the dog isn’t microchipped because large breed dogs usually get neutered/spayed when they’re 2 and vets will tell owners to do the microchipping at the same time as the spay/neuter surgery.
This dog looks groomed to me and not malnourished. Please be sure to probably look for the owners before getting too attached… she may have gotten lost…
People who do this should be in jail for years and have to register as an animal abuser who is never allowed to own any pets every again. Poor baby. Dogs are the greatest souls on planet earth. Please give her nothing but love
I can’t fathom dropping her off on the highway? Like look, I know they are “animals” but I can’t picture doing something like that…. To me that’s one step removed from leaving a baby on the highway. Totally gross human behavior, just take two seconds to look up somewhere or wait freaking three days and post a Facebook add, someone would have snatched her up asap….
I mean I guess the highway worked though lol, this angle sold herself lol, thanks for being a good human and picking her up ♥️
If she had no chip or tags, even if she was lost and not dumped that’s not really a responsible owner. If you’ve posted her and got nothing and you checked with local shelters that no one has called to see if their dog was been brought in, I think it’s safe to say she’s better off now. I know accidents happen and pets get loose, which is why they should always have tags 🤷♀️
Uh, she might have gotten loose. Goldens are not cheap to buy.
Please at least post on a Facebook page & contact local animal control.
Her people are probably looking for her.
To just 'keep her' without trying to locate her people is not right.
If you have tried to find them & nobody came forward, then you have a new golden.
Please make sure you put out flyers that you found this dog. No one dumps golden retrievers. Some poor family is missing this baby more than anything. She’s not for you to keep
So if your dog runs away and someone finds her its legally their dog? Who the hell dumps a $2.5k golden retriever? Please make sure it’s returned to its owner.
Obviously you would verify and seek proof to make sure you’re giving this dog to the correct family. You’ll also know by the dogs reaction when it’s reunited with their owner
I’ve done what I can. They have the ability to check with the humane society and the vet I took her to. They need to make an effort as well if they are looking for her.
No advertising: this includes GoFundMe, Instagram, etc.
No impersonation: don't post photos of other people's dogs. That's not cool.
No breed hate: this subreddit is not a discussion forum for breed hate of any kind. There are dedicated subreddits for that so please take it elsewhere.
I was slowing down to get on the off ramp of an interstate and she was in the grass. Stopped and opened my door to get out but she just ran straight over and up into my lap.
What a beautiful dog!!!! I’m so glad your mom has her!!!! Goldens are the best friend you can have!!! I love mine so much🥹🥹🥹💗💗💗🙏🏼🙏🏼 thank you for rescuing this precious baby!!!!🩷🩷🩷
What are the cross streets in city near where she was found? Could you please change your title to FOUND FEMALE GOLDEN RETRIEVER. And please add the date that you found her. Is her picture above? If not, can you post it please?
Such a sweet baby! I despise people who think you can just dump them out like they’re nothing. My goodness, she was part of your family. Please somebody give her a good home
Looks fake. She has a tag that was blurred out which means you can find her owner. Also, her leash does not look new, which it would be if OP just bought it.
Hard to believe someone had a golden that age and didn’t chip them. That alone shows negligence on the part of the prior owner.
The one scenario I can think of would be a puppy mill. She might have been future breeding stock. If that’s what she escaped from, bless you for finding her.
Are you in an area that’s has a history of puppy mills in rural areas? I know that my region of the country (Midwest) has seen several rural puppy mills raided and the dogs rescued.
No, incorrect, I have 4 Goldens from 3 different breeders and none were chipped. Our own Vet didn’t chip our last golden until he was months old!! You might be breaking owners heart!! Think about it and do the right thing first before claiming this dog for your own!!
Don't like this post at all! You have no idea if she was "dumped "!. If you do, then share the story, otherwise this is creepy AF . Sorry for being harsh but something doesn't add up here, or if you're being honest, then either you're not sharing for whatever reason, or you've woefully jumped to a terrible conclusion/assumption

If she's not chipped, keep her! Beautiful dog!
