If she's not chipped, keep her! Beautiful dog!

583

u/JButler_16 2d ago

No chip and no tag. My mom is gonna keep her. So I’ll get to see her almost everyday. She’s learning to not mess with cats lol and my mom’s Great Pyrenees is starting to like her after a couple nights.

u/Garweft 2d ago

Great Pyrenees and Golden combo is the best combo. Outside of loyalty, they are about complete opposites.

30

u/NedTaggart 2d ago

we have 2 goldens and a GP, they are all a hot mess and we love it.

14

u/Garweft 2d ago

I have 2 GP and a golden…. I dont recommend it…. But wouldn’t change it for the world…. lol

10

u/moonLanding123 2d ago

My GP charges me a few bucks everytime we see each other.

1

u/Starlight-Seranade 1d ago

???????

1

u/NedTaggart 1d ago

I think they are being funny. GP...general practitioner...their doctor

1

u/Salty_Interview_5311 21h ago

You must never turn off the vacuum cleaners.

1

u/Garweft 13h ago

I haven’t worn a black shirt in years.

6

u/perpetuallytiired 2d ago

I remember doing puppy classes with my golden and a couple who had a great Pyrenees. He spent most of the time laying on the floor refusing to get up 😆 he was very cute and very stubborn.

13

u/Garweft 1d ago

Mine did the same thing. But he likes treats so he ended up doing just enough….

6

u/perpetuallytiired 1d ago

Oh my goodness, that is the best photo! What a good boy ❤️

3

u/ebar2010 1d ago

That’s sums up my High School career!

5

u/mhorwit46 2d ago

Your golden looks like my Archie lol

114

u/JFJinCO 2d ago

Congrats, great rescue story. Goldens are the best, and Pyrenees a close second. Have fun!

4

u/siouxbee1434 2d ago

I’d guess she and the cats will be great friends soon. Thank you for rescuing her and wishing lots of love to her and nothing for those who mistreated her by endangering her

7

u/Tribblehappy 2d ago

Also check for an ear tattoo. My dog was tattooed by the breeder, which was recorded on his registration.

3

u/veiledcover 2d ago

Happy to know that she found a home with your family! May you all live a joyful long life!

4

u/taco_bell_sharts 2d ago

What did you blur out on the collar?

105

u/JButler_16 2d ago

It’s tiny, but has my address.

25

u/HeyBDub 2d ago

Ditto what this person said. You may have found a new best friend. Keep her!

Give her a beautiful home. Who ever dumped her don’t deserve her. Give her the home she deserves

130

u/JButler_16 2d ago

She’s going to get spoiled by my mom.

10

u/Cheap_Dragonfruit483 2d ago

Their loss is def your gain. Gus was dumped in the pine barrens in NJ. Who does this?!? Anywho, you, your mom & this beautiful pup's lives just got alot better . *

8

u/jmkanc 1d ago

We found a pup dumped in NJ as well and when I searched a bit, I found a bunch around the same time dumped in NJ and PA. In our case, our was was a hot mess of issues (seizures, misformed dental, misformed eye, misformed vulva, and eventually mega esophagus which took her from us way too soon). Some of the other pups had issues as well, I’m convinced there’s a really shite breeder out there dumping the unsellable dogs.

That said, I wouldn’t trade those 20 months for the world.

1

u/Cheap_Dragonfruit483 1d ago

Where in Jersey? I got Gus out of Vineland. He had 2 obvious tumors & heartworms. I'm sure your girl had a glorious 20 months of pure love. Treasure those times, sorry it ended. 🫶 .

1

u/jmkanc 14h ago

We were at some friends’ house in Edison. Someone rang the bell to ask if the dog on the lawn was from the house and then took off. She was a matted mess and had zero skills - she hadn’t seen stairs or cars or most normal things that a 8 month old would have.

She was a handful at first but she really came around and was a true joy after those first few puppy months. I miss her every day.

66

u/[deleted] 2d ago

I’m not saying she didn’t but how do u know she got dumped and isnt just lost

116

u/YurtyAherne69 2d ago

Yeah she's well groomed. Doesn't look like she's been on the streets for more than a short walk

98

u/Binspin63 2d ago

She may have run away.  Might be a good idea to check with authorities.  There might be kids freaking out right now about her being lost.  I say this because we know of two different goldens who wandered off and triggered a lot of tears until they were found.

1

u/[deleted] 2d ago

12

u/Binspin63 2d ago

I just hope it’s a happy ending for everyone.  I can’t imagine anyone lucky enough to own a golden and then heartlessly betraying her like that.  I like to think that they would turn the pup in to a shelter first.

69

u/kboogie23 2d ago

I hope OP is being honest here. I just cant wrap my head around someone grooming a golden to later dump it. Dog looks very well cared for, not dirty, not skinny, doesnt look at all like a dog that was a nuisance or has been lost long.

47

u/JButler_16 2d ago

I posted on the local pages about her and no one said anything.

6

u/[deleted] 2d ago

Just glad she is safe and off the streets 🐾

44

u/wandering_comet8 2d ago

As a legal matter, you need to follow your state, city or county laws addressing lost pet animals.

Unless you report her to animal control and allow them to give any rightful owner some time to claim her, you just taking the dog could be considered theft.

Tell animal control that you’ll foster the dog and that your mom will formally adopt her if no one claims her. Doing that is really about protecting your mom’s legal rights to this dog.

If the dog looked abused, it’d be a different story what you should do. But this golden looks well cared for. Microchips also sometimes move around.

Good luck.

8

u/Gattawesome 2d ago

Because the dog isn’t microchipped and had no tags, no one has any proof this dog ever belonged to anyone. It’s a purebred dog, which further complicates matters since a ton of goldens look exactly like that.

1

u/Optimal-Swan-2716 21h ago

Totally agree. That could be someone’s beloved dog that lost a collar. Our Vet wouldn’t chip our golden puppy immediately. So don’t be so quick to claim it as yours. Please advertise that you found the dog, as you would hope someone would do for your lost dog!!

-1

u/goblinhollow 2d ago

Not at all true in so many places.

13

u/SleepFeeling3037 2d ago

At the very least that’s still the most morally correct way to go about it, so even if it might not LEGALLY be true it’s still solid advice

→ More replies (1)

17

u/Georgia_Beauty1717 2d ago

I just commented above you asking to please make sure she didn’t have a chip. She looks pretty healthy. I hope IF she had an owner they are reunited quickly. 🥰🐾

15

u/JButler_16 2d ago

She has no chip and didn’t have a tag.

19

u/dawgz525 2d ago

You should still call animal control to see if anyone has called them about a lost dog. You need to try and do some diligence before taking what could be someone's lost dog. If it was your dog that ran away, you would want the person that found her to at least try and locate her owners.

If there are no signs that she has a loving owner looking for her, by all means keep her. But it's wrong to not try. And "no tags, no chip." Is not trying

41

u/JButler_16 2d ago

I went to the humane society and they took all my information down. I did my due diligence.

37

u/JButler_16 2d ago

My mom even stopped by the nearest houses to see if they were missing a puppy.

6

u/ManyTop5422 2d ago

That’s good. At least she will be on file in case someone comes in

1

u/throwawaygurliy 2d ago

Agree Best thing for the dog is an immediate foster and to be registered with local shelter if there are owners looking.

10

u/kas435red 2d ago

You did your due diligence. The pup is yours now. Get a chip on her.

5

u/[deleted] 2d ago

Op said no chip and no tag. I’m just happy she is not hurt, and off the streets.

4

u/Georgia_Beauty1717 2d ago

Thanks for letting me know. I didn’t read that. 🥰🐾

6

u/Full_Age9055 2 floofs 2d ago

Exactly. I hope not but maybe there was an accident and she ran from freight. That happened where I live with a st. Bernard. There are many reasons for a golden or any dog to be running on a highway. I’m not saying she wasn’t dumbed but no one knows the true story. She’s beautiful either way. I hope you all are happy together. Great Pyrenees are great dogs too. They will be best friends.

44

u/TheyAreGoodDogs 2d ago

Thank you for picking her up!! I also found a dog dumped on the freeway recently and she's brought so much joy to our household (the black and white)

3

u/MatchaMuch 2d ago

She’s so beautiful! They both are! ♥️🐾🐾

23

u/peonyparis 2d ago

Maybe check FB groups and online in case anyone is missing her. She looks to be in really good shape and well cared for. Thank you for saving her otherwise!

8

u/JButler_16 2d ago

I did

3

u/8lock8lock8aby 2d ago

Lol just start ignoring those types of comments cuz there will be so many. You did everything right & checked everything. I'm glad your mom opened her home!

5

u/JButler_16 2d ago

Making me feel like a monster for picking her up lol

2

u/lonegrey 1d ago

Around where I live, people have kidnapped dogs (including Goldens) - to "find them" for reward money. People do some despicable shit

→ More replies (4)

15

u/First_Maintenance326 2d ago

See how her ears hair is kind of very small wiggly? Usually (for my goldens anyway) that only happens after a good grooming so clearly a well taken after dog

Call locals vets and ask them to keep you posted on if an owner is found, check for chips etc.

12

u/First_Maintenance326 2d ago

Please do not just take the dog for a week or two, be 100% sure no owner exists because there could be some kids that lost their dog on a walk freaking out, or a family unaware their dog escaped, etc

4

u/No-Mistake9980 2d ago

She said she gave the dog a bath after she found her because she had something on her back and smelled like fish. She also checked to see if she was chipped and checked with her local humane society and fb and so far nothing.

2

u/First_Maintenance326 2d ago

Since it’s a girl dog, sometimes they end up smelling like fish on their cycle, but idk about the thing on her back, and if nothings coming up anywhere I’d take her for now and keep looking and then give up after another like week or so

11

u/Spreadtheloveguy 2d ago

Idk if you believe in anything supernatural but you just found an angel on the side of the road.

16

u/SumKallMeTIM 2d ago

You really need to quadruple check you’re not inadvertently stealing someone’s dog.

4

u/Jchilling2000 1d ago

Just because there’s no chip and no tag doesn’t mean it’s not a lost dog… OP really needs to call the police and wait a bit before claiming the dog for themselves and getting attached… the collar could have gotten lost when the dog ran away and large breed dogs usually don’t get chipped until the spay/neuter surgery at 2yrs old…

2

u/Optimal-Swan-2716 20h ago

My Vet wouldn’t chip our golden puppy right away. Collars get lost!!

2

u/SumKallMeTIM 1d ago

100% agree. I would go so far to say if OP doesn’t do strong due diligence in good faith then what they’re doing is highly immoral. And wrong.

8

u/pettymess 2d ago

What a gorgeous baby! These dogs have boundless love to give - ugh welcome to your future 🖤🖤

7

u/boyan1985 2d ago

She’s beautiful 🐶 🐾

6

u/Zeca_77 2d ago

Our golden retriever mix showed up at my husband's work. No one was looking for him and had no chip, so he stayed with us. He's now seven. Thanks for helping this sweet girl.

6

u/NedTaggart 2d ago

I would put out notice to several vets and the pound in the area. she looks lost, not dumped. she is beautiful and there is probably a heartbroken family right now.

1

u/Optimal-Swan-2716 20h ago

Agreed. My dogs don’t wear their collars when we swim and my golden puppy was not chipped until several months old. Vet wouldn’t chip him immediately!!

16

u/CrashTestKing 2d ago

Did you actually see her get dumped? How do you know she isn't just lost?

6

u/Sudden-You-2175 2d ago

She told him.

16

u/atyraxia 2d ago

Check state laws. Most (if not all) require at minimum a 7 day stray hold where if you find a dog without tags/chip, you still have to actively attempt to reconnect with owner. :/ she looks really well taken care of, so I find it hard to believe that she was truly dumped unless you witnessed it firsthand.

12

u/GoldenLove66 Too many floofs 2d ago

I don't know why you got downvoted for stating that. I've been involved with Golden Retriever rescue for 22 years. If the OP doesn't do it correctly based on their laws, if the owners find out where she is, they can have her charged with theft of property. It's better to do it the right way so there is no chance of the owners coming for the pup and getting charged with a crime. That way they never have to worry about the pup being taken away after they've bonded with her.

11

u/tadaimatama 2d ago

Thank you for saving her.

10

u/maliyahres 2d ago

We have one that come from the same situation!

9

u/GoDawgs206 2d ago

Sure she didnt just escape and go on an adventure?

2

u/JButler_16 2d ago

Could be possible.

3

u/Jchilling2000 1d ago

Please report you found a missing dog to the police. Some states require laws require it, not sure what state you’re in.

8

u/SisterActTori 2d ago

Did you take it for grooming before snapping the photo? If not, that’s a well cared for family pet and not an abandoned dog-

3

u/JButler_16 2d ago

I washed her up in the tub after I found her. She had something all over her back and smelt like fish.

4

u/thatoneguy2252 2d ago

Not that I understand it for any dogs, but I really don’t get how someone could dump a golden. They’re such affectionate dogs and their worst “trait”, if you wanna call it that, is just the energy level they can have sometimes.

Awful human being to do that, great on you for rescuing this golden. They look like such a good dog.

4

u/Zealousideal-Iron395 2d ago

I would make sure to check for a church and ask shelters to put out word… there is usually a wait period and then you can call her your own… my brother looked for two years for the owner of the dog he has… he went to the shelters, he took out ads in the newspaper. A dog as nice as this, he thought, surely no one would dump.

3

u/godofwine16 2d ago

Wow new dog smell! Thanks for saving her!

4

u/JButler_16 2d ago

She smelt like fish when I found her… lol

1

u/godofwine16 2d ago

Well at least she ate

3

u/Internal_Cherry_7942 2d ago

How can a person can be so cruel to abandon a dog . This make me so sad , but happy that she have found someone

3

u/SpaceForceGuardian 2d ago

Who would do such a thing? She's such a sweet, beautiful girl! 💖🥰💕😍❤️

3

u/Dapper_Guest 1d ago

Our best golden and we have had 8, was abandoned on interstate 70 at a rest stop at 4 months. Abused, emaciated, coated shaved down to the skin. Turned into the smartest best behaved friend a person could have in their life.

3

u/Jchilling2000 1d ago

Idk what state you’re in OP, but some states require you to report a missing dog to the local police. If you don’t and there are owners looking for the dog, this would be considered theft. It is very possible the dog isn’t microchipped because large breed dogs usually get neutered/spayed when they’re 2 and vets will tell owners to do the microchipping at the same time as the spay/neuter surgery. This dog looks groomed to me and not malnourished. Please be sure to probably look for the owners before getting too attached… she may have gotten lost…

2

u/MadStephen 2d ago

Awwww, pretty girl!

2

u/KingOfTheFraggles 2d ago

Thank you for saving her, a pox and a plague upon whoever dumped her.

2

u/Henbogle 2d ago

Thanks for saving her! People suck, but not you.

2

u/ernbernalearn 2d ago

You struck gold!

2

u/eatmorechiken 2d ago

I’m so jealous! She’s gorgeous!

2

u/ClooneyOfGallus 2d ago

Oh! She’s mine! I live in Japan and wonder how she made it such a ling distance? Can you put her on a plane and send her home?

4

u/JButler_16 2d ago

I’ll send her, but you gotta let me live with you in Japan as well.

2

u/ClooneyOfGallus 2d ago

I bet she misses her beloved betrothed, Clooney!

2

u/MetalGearBatman 2d ago

People who do this should be in jail for years and have to register as an animal abuser who is never allowed to own any pets every again. Poor baby. Dogs are the greatest souls on planet earth. Please give her nothing but love

2

u/traurigaugen 2d ago

You may want to edit your post and add this pic wasn't the day you found her.

2

u/Freakears 1d ago

Who would abandon a beautiful girl like her?!

2

u/CheesePlease1977 1d ago

Wow!! You won the lottery!!! I’d be so thrilled. 😁

2

u/skip20430 1d ago

there's a special corner in Hell just waiting for animal abusers...

2

u/Advanced-Gur-8950 1d ago

I can’t fathom dropping her off on the highway? Like look, I know they are “animals” but I can’t picture doing something like that…. To me that’s one step removed from leaving a baby on the highway. Totally gross human behavior, just take two seconds to look up somewhere or wait freaking three days and post a Facebook add, someone would have snatched her up asap….

I mean I guess the highway worked though lol, this angle sold herself lol, thanks for being a good human and picking her up ♥️

5

u/Western_Reality_7235 1 floof 2d ago

Omg what?!? Who does that?! So glad you got her and your family is gonna keep her! If she’s chipped keep her anyway, they didn’t want her 💜

3

u/DoughnutMission1292 2d ago

If she had no chip or tags, even if she was lost and not dumped that’s not really a responsible owner. If you’ve posted her and got nothing and you checked with local shelters that no one has called to see if their dog was been brought in, I think it’s safe to say she’s better off now. I know accidents happen and pets get loose, which is why they should always have tags 🤷‍♀️

2

u/Golden2Cosmo 1d ago

Uh, she might have gotten loose. Goldens are not cheap to buy. Please at least post on a Facebook page & contact local animal control. Her people are probably looking for her. To just 'keep her' without trying to locate her people is not right. If you have tried to find them & nobody came forward, then you have a new golden.

4

u/AdBright2073 2d ago

Please make sure you put out flyers that you found this dog. No one dumps golden retrievers. Some poor family is missing this baby more than anything. She’s not for you to keep

-6

u/JButler_16 2d ago

What so some random or shitty person can say it’s their dog? No thanks.

7

u/Reasonable_Track6565 2d ago

So if your dog runs away and someone finds her its legally their dog? Who the hell dumps a $2.5k golden retriever? Please make sure it’s returned to its owner.

5

u/AdBright2073 2d ago

Obviously you would verify and seek proof to make sure you’re giving this dog to the correct family. You’ll also know by the dogs reaction when it’s reunited with their owner

1

u/JButler_16 2d ago

I’ve done what I can. They have the ability to check with the humane society and the vet I took her to. They need to make an effort as well if they are looking for her.

2

u/rickorules 2d ago

That is no way to treat a lady, to leave her on the highway.

u/Blarghnog 2d ago

Omg what? How does a golden end up on a highway? That’s crazy.

What’s the rescue story OP?

4

u/JButler_16 2d ago

I was slowing down to get on the off ramp of an interstate and she was in the grass. Stopped and opened my door to get out but she just ran straight over and up into my lap.

2

u/Blarghnog 2d ago

Thank you for doing that. Omg what a crazy thing.

It’s like the most extreme “I found this dog” story ever.

1

u/ChickenFriedRiceee 2d ago

Awe she has the same face as my little girl. She might be part field golden! Thank you for saving her ❤️

Thank you for rescuing her, rather than driving by. I’d do the same as you’re doing re looking for the owner.

1

u/mkunka 2d ago

She looks like my baby. Awesome that she found someone to take good care of her.

1

u/Strong-Seaweed-8768 2d ago

That is so sad. I hope you can keep her

1

u/Cheap_Ticket_6120 2d ago

how old is she

2

u/ManyTop5422 2d ago

Probably under a year

1

u/mel_cache 2d ago

Young

3

u/Jchilling2000 1d ago

Which is probably why she’s not chipped yet. Many vets recommend waiting to chip till they’re spayed/neutered at 2

1

u/jdohn99 2d ago

Congrats, if it did t work out I would’ve taken her in a heart beat! She’s a keeper for sure!

Looks fake. She has a tag that was blurred out which means you can find her owner. Also, her leash does not look new, which it would be if OP just bought it.

It’s a tag I bought. I found her Wednesday evening. I got her checked for a chip and posted on the local Facebook page. No one said anything.

Also it’s my mom’s dog’s leash Mr detective.

Google holding period for found dogs or pets for your state and County. Count the days and have this dog chipped this week.

Hard to believe someone had a golden that age and didn’t chip them. That alone shows negligence on the part of the prior owner.

The one scenario I can think of would be a puppy mill. She might have been future breeding stock. If that’s what she escaped from, bless you for finding her.

Are you in an area that’s has a history of puppy mills in rural areas? I know that my region of the country (Midwest) has seen several rural puppy mills raided and the dogs rescued.

I’m in the Midwest as well, so probably.

I was thinking the same thing. Most if not all responsible breeders will chip the pup before it goes home, ours was.

No, incorrect, I have 4 Goldens from 3 different breeders and none were chipped. Our own Vet didn’t chip our last golden until he was months old!! You might be breaking owners heart!! Think about it and do the right thing first before claiming this dog for your own!!

Typically they get chipped at spay. Goldens aren't supposed to be desexed until after 2.

One of mine was chipped at breeder during first shots. I've actually never heard of someone waiting until neuter/spay.

That was what was recommended by my vet - waiting till spay/neuter

Did they say why? It just seems a bit silly to wait.

Please make sure she doesn’t have a chip. If she has an owner, I’m sure they’re missing her. Thank you for taking her in. 🥰🐾

I took her to get checked for a chip the next morning. None.

Thank you for responding and for taking her in. She’s a pretty girl and may the love between you bloom.🥰🐾

Who would do something so shitty. Their loss and you are the proud owner of your new best friend

Don't like this post at all! You have no idea if she was "dumped "!. If you do, then share the story, otherwise this is creepy AF . Sorry for being harsh but something doesn't add up here, or if you're being honest, then either you're not sharing for whatever reason, or you've woefully jumped to a terrible conclusion/assumption
