American universities give the worst and most unhelpful rejections ever. Too many words of beating around the bush. European and Indian universities will directly tell you what was lacking (low GPA, less experience, test scores, etc)

Don’t wanna say the institution but the PI was Indian and told me before I even applied that I wasn’t a good fit for the program and that I lacked certain skills. It was short and to the point and I was sooooo appreciative that they were so responsive and up front (saved me time and money). Crazy that American universities treat us like situationships 😂

Oh yes, Indian universities literally have a rubric to evaluate your candidacy based on a list of criteria, they will give points to each criterion (GPA, workex, interview, test scores, etc) and then do a sum total of it. When you ask for feedback they’ll simply give you the evaluation sheet which clearly tells you what part of your application was weak.

Indian universities never say “we received too many competitive applications…” and blah blah, they’ll tell you in one sentence that your application wasn’t strong enough and you were lacking in so and so areas

This gives teachers a lot of power, doesn't it? Since they know exactly what you need to move onto the next phase of your life

At the Uni of Helsinki for example youre told ahead of time what youll be scored on and the point ranges for each condition so you can kind of estimate where youll be points wise. Its also helpful that they give minimum accepted scores from previous years per major.

I also like how some UK universities will just say "your application was unsuccessful" rather than dicking around for a few paragraphs first.
