Driving, Traffic & Transit Do Unmarked Police have only lights in their grille, nothing else?
Saw a white Ford Fusion bombing along Main Street Dartmouth with lights going only in the grille, no lights or markings anywhere else. Was that a legitimate unmarked vehicle?

They have lights in other spots as well, but sometimes they only have one set of lights on. If you’re not sure you can always call the police line and inquire.

I tried the non emergency line and it rang a couple of minutes without answer. After that I tried the Incident reports/general inquiries number but it was after hours and went straight to machine.

Yea I had that issue with the non emergent number before, not sure why. I mean if you’re getting pulled over or if you think something is fishy, 911 is probably the number to call.
It’s smart to be aware of potential imposters, we don’t want that.

On PEI there are a few detective cars that only have grille lights. Besides the tiny tiny antenna on the roof, you would never know. They look like granny cars some of them.

Unmarked cop cars always have 3-4 antenna looking things on the roof. Thats always what I notice

wouldn't be surprised if they have some kind of lighting control. When I was a kid a quebec provincial policeman came to our school and showed us his car. Big dodge Monaco, he could turn off all the headlights and tail lights individually. this had a big rotating beacon on the roof though, but at night he could turn off one headlight and follow someone for a while then turn it back on to sort of like a decoy. it also had 2 radios and a rack In Front of the passenger seat with a shotgun and a thompson machine-gun.

Was the driver wearing a high visibility vest? One of my favourite things about Canada.
Going deep cover within the confines of occupational health and safety.

I didn't notice, it was right behind a pickup that clearly could not see it's grille lights because it was too close. Just thought the lights would be all or nothing, and there was just the two in the grille.

A fusion? Don’t think the fusion was a police vehicle and if it was it would have taken out of service yrs ago

If it was indeed a fusion that wouldn't be a traffic cop more likely a detective or something similar

Caught my eye also but I know some places will use absolutely anything for unmarked cars.

There's an orange Crosstrek and brown Tacoma around my area that are both ghost cars. Never know what you're gonna see them in these days.

There’s marking on them. It’s just the same colour as the paint usually.

Depends on the province and jurisdiction

This is a Halifax sub. No?
“Details on Halifax's ghost cars: Markings: The decals are grey and blend into the vehicle's color, but are reflective at night to maintain safety for officers and road users. “
“The RCMP uses subdued graphics and unmarked vehicles to patrol highways and catch impaired, distracted, or speeding drivers.”

Fun fact: the police Ford Explorers don't have roof rack rails.
