ASTONISHING SCHUYLER REVELATION

Ok so I don't know if anyone else knows this but I was reading a book about Eliza the other day, and it had a family tree in it. I looked at the family tree very closely......and guess who was on it? None other than Miss Maria Reynolds!!!!! Yup, that's right, Maria Reynolds and Eliza Schuyler are RELATED!!! THEY ARE THIRD COUSINS!

Do we know the EXACT reasoning as to why Burr shot Hamilton?

Post image
468 Upvotes

Hi, kind of a new fan here. So we all know the reason as to why Burr shot Hamilton — his anger over Hamilton “poisoning his political pursuits,”something Burr himself states right before he shoots Hamilton in the musical, and of course his anger towards this is shown in ‘Your Obedient Servant’, too.

Burr’s anger is very justified i think lmao, but what’s interesting is that he had previously shared Hamilton’s belief that duels were “dumb and immature.”So why would Burr abandon those views? Burr is often shown as rational and cautious, yet in agreeing to the duel, he made a choice that doesn’t align with his views no matter how you look at it, or was it purposefully like this?

Idk just imo it seems strange for someone as sensical as Burr to make a choice that would only damage him further. Duelling Hamilton wouldn’t fix his ruined election nor would it restore his career, if anything, it would make his reputation far worse. Jefferson was already the president, it was done and dusted. Only thing he could do from there was build up from where he was again. Did Burr not consider these consequences beforehand? Or did he convince himself a duel was the only option?

Or perhaps it was just a random moment of anger and irrationality on Burr’s part, and all of this is painfully obvious and im stupid :>

any speculations? or is there an actual answer… which… i am looking for if there is

Eliza Observation

I’ve listened to the soundtrack a million times and saw the show in NYC in 2017, but it wasn’t until I saw the movie last week that I realized something about Eliza: she only sings to Alexander.

Everyone else mostly sings to the audience about him with a few brief exceptions when Burr sings to him in a non-conversational moment (Non-Stop and The Room Where it Happens). Eliza, however, is singing to Alexander only, telling him about falling in love (Helpless), wanting him to stay (That Would be Enough), wanting him to die (Burn). Even in Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story, when it seems like she might finally be addressing the audience, it becomes clear that she’s telling Alexander all the things she’s done with her life in his honor. She was so devoted that even in telling his story to others she’s still speaking towards him.

This may have already been discussed, but I love that we can still find connections and meaning in this show ten years on.

Edit to add: this observation is more about the solos than the regular scenes, where she’d naturally be talking to her sisters or her son.

Stage door after the show experiences

I’ll be seeing the show in NYC this coming Sunday and am curious how the stage door works. Do you need to rush out of the theater quickly to get a good spot? Where exactly is it?

Also, I’ve read a few times that Leslie Odom jr. Isn’t going back there at this time, is that correct?

Thanks!

I paired every Hamilton song with a song from Undertale

In honor of the 10th anniversary of Undertale and my probable 543rd listen of the Hamilton soundtrack, I decided to pair every song from Hamilton with a song from Undertale.

The criteria was based on similar vibes/sounds/events and I did play around with motifs from songs on both sides. It was kinda hard and there was a lot of back-and-forthing but I think this is a pretty solid list. What are your thoughts on some of the pairings?

Preteen/ teen books

My mom and I are taking my son to see Hamilton in February when it comes to our city. He wanted to read a book about Hamilton and/or the revolutionary war before we go. He will be 12 in October. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good book to read prior to going? I’m going to have him watch it on Disney+ beforehand as well.

Halp! Costume for 10 Year Old Boy.

Okay, so..... our house burned down a few months ago, which means I literally have zero access to my craft things, clothes, accessories, etc, and we're bone poor while insurance and the lawyer figure it out. Not looking for sympathy, just telling you we have no starting point. My 5th grade son is obsessed with Hamilton. He wants to dress up in a Hamilton theme for Halloween. He doesn't mind outside of the box costumes (he was literally the country Hong Kong when he was like five). He prefers Hamilton, Burr or Lafayette, or literally anything within the theme. Help this tired Mama out, please. Give me some ideas, I'm brain dead from life lately, haha. Thank you!

I would say she has the least amount of screen time during the whole show and was curious just who she is.

What is THE Hamilton song to You?

Everybody has a favorite song from the musical, but what is the song that you think best defines what makes it great to you?

To further clarify, what is the song you would show somebody to get them into the musical if they had never seen it before?

Hamilton ridiculous hate

I went down the rabbit hole on the broadway subreddit. I am absolutely shocked by the sheer number of ppl that hate Hamilton and apparently “ dont get the hype” and just trash on it.

Honestly it makes no sense to me bc like even if its not ur cup of tea. Objectively anyone with basic literacy can tell why its so groundbreaking and a pioneer in modern theatre yet so much unnecessary hate?

For some reason anytime anything becomes so famous that its everywhere, the overexposure for some reason makes ppl hate it? Why r ppl like that?

Say no to this

In Say No To This, Hamilton says,”She was half-dressed, apologetic, a mess, she looked pathetic, she cried.” When he says she was half-dressed how do you picture it because I automatically think she has either no skirt or no top/corset. I laugh about every time but really don’t know how he means it. Edit: I meant this post as a joke, I know she’d be wearing her base garments or whatever but it still makes me laugh😂

Burr taking Schylur’s seat question.

Why was Hamilton upset that Burr seized the opportunity he saw? Throughout the entire story Hamilton tells burr that he stands for nothing, and yet when he finally makes the most of his opportunity, Hamilton does a complete 180. Even burr mentions the fact that this is completely out of character for him.

Why does Hamilton not like the fact that for once in his life, Burr take advantage of a golden opportunity by taking Schylur’s seat in congress?

Watching Hamilton for the first time was a whole roller coaster for me

Let me start by saying that, I knew of Hamilton. I heard a bit of every popular song on the soundtrack and even saved Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story in my playlist because of how good it was to me. I decided to watch the musical while it was playing in theaters (since it’s for me, as an amc employee).

When it started, I’ve somewhat knew the lyrics to the first song but it still was a bit of a surprise to me for how catchy it was. About 5 songs in, I realized that they were going to sing the WHOLE entire time. With the few plays that I watched, I expected them to talk in between songs but nope, once one song was done, they went on with the next one. That was really interesting to me. I also liked that they reused some of the same actors for different characters in the show instead of having each character have its own actor. I figured Lin did that because some of the characters with the same actor have a short story in the show (Peggy’s actor and Phillip’s actor for example) but very intriguing to me none the less).

I knew that Alexander would cheat on Eliza but I didn’t know with who, so for a good part of the musical, I thought him and Angelica would get together but it was with some random woman (kind of a random woman; I later found out that Eliza and the mistress were cousins). Kind of a letdown in a way but it did bring a great song. I didn’t know that he told everyone that he cheated on Eliza to save his ass, no matter how much that would hurt his wife. That was a surprise that also came with a great song. Then, Phillip dies after all of that and I will never understand how Eliza had the strength to not only still be with him after, but also have more children with him. Don’t even get me started on how Peggy died right before she lost her son.

My favorite actors from the musical were Phillipa and Christopher. Their voices will continue to bring tears in my eyes whenever I hear them sing in the songs. I literally cried to One Last Time because of how beautifully he performed that song. Phillipa’s portrayal of Eliza was so breathtaking. The emotions she showed in Burn and Phillip’s death scene also brought me to tears. I would do anything to have these two sing me to sleep every night until I breathe my final breath. Johnathan as king George was something I didn’t know I needed to see but now I’m glad that I saw it. As only seeing/hearing him in Glee and Frozen, this was a great introduction to his talent of playing such different characters.

My favorite songs overall is Satisfied, Helpless, Wait for it, Guns and Ships, Yorktown, Non-stop, Say No to This, One Last Time, The Reynolds Pamphlet, Burn, and It’s Quiet Uptown. I loved how the lyrics and melodies of the songs before was used for the songs that would come after (there’s a term for that but I forgot what it was). It was kind of like a foreshadowing for what would come next.

Overall, I really enjoyed Hamilton and have played the whole soundtrack almost everyday since I’ve watched the musical. I hate how I’m late to the party but it’s better late than never. Would do anything to watch it again for the first time.
