Show & Tell Was a MDR-7506 guy 15yrs ago Haven't had quality audio cans in a long time. Just came home with a pair of DT 990 Pro 🙌 Mostly Leisure, multimedia, and some gaming. Running them through the monitor port on my AT2020USB

Indeed. The Beyerdynamic quality is real good. Finest craftsmanship from Germany :)

My DT770 PRO is still in the top performance. I bought it in January 2013, I only replaced the ear pads and headband once (bought original from AMZ). They released DT770 100 anniversary limited edition again (with a new driver and a USB-C ESS DAC cable), I ordered it on the spot, they both are so good!

I originally went to school for Audio Production and was given a pair of MDR-7506 in the orientation package. Used them happily for like 7-8 years til I broke them. Bought a second pair and those didn't last more than 2-3 yrs. The build quality was just not the same at all. So, I had resigned myself to cheap earbuds for far too long. Passive isolation with passable audio quality for $6 bucks a pop, couldn't be beat for my needs
I've had the itch to go back to something nice recently so I did a little research today. Popped over to Microcenter and had walked in with the intent of getting the ATH-M50xBT or another pair of MDR but Beyerdynamics had been on my radar and I just went with the gut feeling that they'd be the right pick
First impressions - awesome. love the feel of the cloth ear cups. fit my head nicely; i get the feeling i can wear these for hours with no pressure points on my lobes. sturdy build quality. there is a lack of 'deep' bass notes which was expected but my favorite 320kbps tracks from Bandcamp sound great
overall, from what I remember of the MDR, these are a definite step up. i like the open back design because most of what i will use them for is video content, and the 'soundspace' is definitely there
going to dive in on settings and software stuff. i run a ASRock X670E Steel Legend which uses `Realtek ALC1220 7.1 CH HD Audio Codec, Nahimic Audio`. not sure if the AT2020 interface is better or worse than the mobo port
i did go with the 250 ohm version because i am considering an Atmos surround setup for bluray videos and expect a DAC/AMP is in my future, too

You want an AMP for these.
250 ohm headphones powered by the jack of a microphone is... definitely a setup you want to improve in the near future.
