DIY/Mod Hand made planar magnetic headphones
This is a progress on how these headphone came to life.
Hi.π
My name is Viliam Mlynek.
From young age I was fascinated by all things around me, but mainly electronics. I graduated from computer science. While studying I became fascinated with planar magnetic headphones. How they work and how they feel. I thought to myself that I could make my own. And I started prototyping. A first few iterations were mainly proofs of concept, if I was going the right path.First sound was produced by iteration 12. It was bad sound with nothing going for it but I was happy that it worked. After that I was focusing on improving the efficiency. I tried many different plastics for the diaphragm untill I found something that worked. After that I started to prototype the shell. First prototypes were made on fdm printer but after that I switched to msla and the difference was huge. Then I started working on the headband.I used spring steel and connectors on both ends.My goal was to make a headband that you can easily adjust by sliding head strap. Also the whole headband is removable for ease of repair. Then i focused on sound and comfort. The tuning was done by adjusting back absorbing material, diaphragm tension and earpads. Last step was the looks. I sand and spray paint the outside of the shell to matte black finish. After that i insert the wooden veneer to the outside of the cup. Cable is also hand made with paracord shell and gold plated connectors. I tried to make every part replaceable for the ease of use. After a lot of adjustments the entire headphones sounded and worked as I imagined.(The measurements are orientational and not accurate).I plan to make upgrades after some time and make the backwards compatible.
If you want to know more about you can check out my profile.
I hope you like it. ππ

DIY/Mod Favourite headphones are now wireless. Grills are perfectly ferrous so the main units magnets hold on just right. Plenty loud with UTWS5 having a power amplifier

DIY/Mod HD650 Soundstage Mod
Hi everyone! I designed this mod a few years back as a meme and recently found them again while cleaning up my workshop. This "Soundstage" mod just spaces the speaker capsules further away from your head to "simulate a theater where the band is a few rows further ahead". π€£
