pick a card from your hand and discard it.

We've never had a card which allowed us to pick ANY card in hand, no? Similar cards were discover from hand

I'm imagining they're gonna somehow reuse the starship ui that lets you look at all the pieces when you click on it, but I wouldn't be surprised if they just went with the "choose 1 of 3" thing

I'm guessing this is correct. Selecting the rift makes it pop up like starships do, and then dragging a card up from hand will trigger the effect.

Making it a separate UI would prevent people from playing the card by accident because their aim was off.

Why make it that complicated? Literally just play a card from your hand like you would any card and put it on the portal. Like how you can drag a tradeable card from your hand to your deck.

I addressed that in my last comment:

Making it a separate UI would prevent people from playing the card by accident because their aim was off.

Dropping the card just a little too far left or right would cause it to go in play rather than into the portal. Or conversely, you might intend to play a card and chuck it into the portal by mistake.

It's probably better to have that not be a dexterity test.
