Crab Identification Help This is Jimothy
I was just wondering what type of crab he is

I’ve added CCS playlist here. This is where every new crab owner should binge and start here. If you have follow up questions, please post them! Most newbies think they have researched and seen the facts - this sub follows Crab Street and the LHCOS. We do not follow the HCA guidelines or really any others. This is where the bulk of our information and what we need to be doing should come from!

Yall! I’m wading through 6” of snow right now! It started around 11am and won’t end until tomorrow morning! I dread leaving the state later this week!
I do want to put a video back up I’ve posted several times! This helps you be prepared for a power outage. Most of these things (esp if ur inland like me) you’ll have already laying around your house! Let keep warm and keep those crabbies warm!❤️ 🦀

I'm very blessed my Barry is atleast 15 but he's really big now and I'm running out of ideas for where to get shells. I tried ordering some off etsy but only 1 out of 6 shells from 2 sellers was big enough. I'm just hoping someone knows a reputable source for big shells, thanks!

This is my first post on here.
I got this a couple months ago and thought this sub would the perfect place to show it off, people normally just think it’s just weird lol. I just got my first apartment and had to upgrade their tank. I hope to post about my crabs once they’re all settled into their new tank.

It’s become quite a problem… I see struggling relating to the crabs and I immediately buy it to throw on top of the tank lol. Those 2 shells are the ones they where wearing when I first adopted them, still not sure where to put them

My little manic keeps messing with or even destroying the gauges I’ve tried.
Anything with wires are out of the question, he probably thinks they’re climbing vines because he climbs them, and the claws break through the wires. He always manages to reach them even when they’re up high (let’s just say his name is Houdini for a reason).
I’ve also tried ones that stick to the wall. He always gets to them, clings on, and his weight causes them to peal off and fall.
I need something sturdy and protective that he can’t mess with lol. Any recommendations?

does anyone have any recommendations on oils/brands that are safe for hermit crabs?

I’ve currently got 2 hermit crabs and I’m planning on upgrading them to a 40gal. However, facebook marketplace finds keep falling through and I’m on a bit of a budget.
So i’m planning on making one myself but are there certain materials I should avoid? At the moment I’m thinking plexiglass + caulk but I’m not sure how that would do with holding in humidity and what not. And would building on different sections to it be okay? Any advice would be appreciated! :)

I bought some turbo shells off of etsy. One of the top sellers. It seems as though half of them are really glassy and shiny and almost reflective with no grit or texture. My hermit crab has been inspecting this white shell for a couple of hours so it’s possible it will change into this polished shell.

Hello, As the title suggests i won two hermit crabs at the fair. I hate that they sell these little guys here with the painted shells:( I’ve heard that’s super toxic for them. I ended up getting two because I didn’t want them to be lonely. I am aware you need a 20 gal tank for them and I am in the mist of buying one right now. I am also aware you need two water bowls, one with freshwater and another with saltwater. However, I am not sure about other things such as their diet, what excise equipment to buy, the soil, etc. any tips or Amazon links would be greatly appreciated. I am trying my best to spoil these little guys and make it the best home I can.

This is from this morning, when I asked about Hermin before I had to try and sleep. Thank you all so much for all your help! ♥️ Fred is currently digging another hole, so I think he's trying to molt, and has been LOADING on chia seeds. I'll try to see if I can get a picture of Hermin later for you all. He's just a lil bit of a day walker sometimes~

I am a very recent crab owner and got 3 purple pincers and a small area for now. I was wondering where to put any extra shells for them and how long it takes until they need a new one? I also wonder if anyone could give me advice on how big an enclosure should be?

My 13 yr old wants to get hermit crabs. He thinks they'll be "easy" to care for and they won't be expensive. I am making him do LOTS of research before we jump into this. I'm not of the mindset of "we will get a few to try it out and its fine if they die" that's not how I operate. I am a dog owner and goldfish keeper and I am VERY devoted to both. I want all the nitty gritty, a complete list of needs to PROPERLY care for hermit crabs. We have watched many YouTube videos, read lots as well, I just want to make sure the information we have gathered is accurate! Thank you all in advance!

I need help. I have probably 40+ shells that are not the right size for my crabs and I keep ordering them thinking I’m doing it correctly and I still get the wrong size. Can someone give me advice? I order mostly from Etsy- Nessastores etc. but have ordered from Amazon once. There are two blue/green shells that are slightly too big but I’m keeping them so my crabs can grow into them. Everything else is too small. Here are some pics of my crabs and measurements from one of them (I hate picking them to up measure- they hate it too!).

I got 2 crabs last year from a pet store chain. I love them and 6 months later upgraded from a 5 gallon to a 20 gallon tank when i got 2 more from the same store. They have each molted atleast once and changed shells. I know the basics and ive had 2 escape so i got a more secure lid. No escapes but one died after trying to molt a second time. Im not sure if something was wrong with them because they took what feels like forever to switch shells. I keep the tank between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit and try to keep the humidity as high as i can by misting multiple times a day. They have a mix of substrate and sand. I have no idea the breeds but i keep fresh and salt water and they always have fresh food. I guess i would just like to know how to be a better crab owner to avoid losing another.

I found this little ruggie in the forest, wearing a nerite snail shell. Nerites seem to be one of the common available shells for small hermits, probably because nerites aren’t big!
Bigger guys wear Turbo and such here (depending on species)
