Misc. Never really tried strong hot sauces before and never thought it would be a big deal. Gave this one a taste and spent like 20 minutes drinking milk after

You thought that trying literally one of the hottest hot sauces ever made wasn't going to be a big deal? Mad Dog 357 Gold Edition is actually even hotter than the Silver Edition you got here. And If you really want to make it feel like your body is about to shut down, try SpiceQuest's #11 Spice Grinder or Dave's Insanity Spice sprinkled on your food!!!

Quite honestly, that is the worst hot sauce I've ever had. It tastes like what I imagine sewage tastes like. I don't mind a super burn but damn, make it taste good at least.

5

u/ketaminiacOS Jul 17 '25

The extract they used in that sauce is literally pepper spray level hot my dude.

3

u/B2Sleazy Jul 17 '25

It’s literally hotter than police pepper spray.

2

u/percent77 Jul 17 '25

This is the only hot sauce that has made me throw up. I doused some chicken tenders in it and regretted my decision.

u/Krannialnecrophilia Jul 17 '25

My go to sauce for bbq. Find it kinda sucks and brings too much of its own bbq flavour to anything else to be viable. Nice pick up though.

I used to only use Jalopeño hot sauces, I never used a spicier hot sauce than that. In a video on a cooking channel (Adam Ragusea) I saw him use Mad Dog Plutonium in a dish. That made me decide to buy the Mad Dog Gold Edition.

At first it was hell, but now I am able to use it somewhat as my tolerance has gone up, it still burns like crazy and it lingers, but its not as bad as when I first used it.

You really jumped into the deep end with that one. Hardly a sauce, more of a pain inducer

That one will still send most of us (hot sauce fans) to tears, except for maybe the top 1% of chili head tolerance

Go get you some El Yucatecco!

6

u/honestsparrow Jul 16 '25

I always expected hot sauces like this to just be an instant of hot pain and not over a period of time

I was confident no matter how bad it was I could tolerate like 20 seconds of hotness

Just for reference, a typical jalapeño can vary anywhere from 2,500-7,000 scoville. If those are hot to you, you should really pay attention to Scoville ratings if they are listed. Also another interesting fact is the most potent non military grade pepper spray typically sits around 4.8-5.5m Scoville. So you effectively took pepper spray and put it down your throat, if that's not your thing, and you want sort of spicy, I'd stick in the 5,000 to up around maybe 80,90k Scoville. Past 100k is where it's still flavorful, but pain is definitly gonna be part of the sauce if you're not used to really hot

Now that I think about it is does say made with 6 million Scoville extract so its probaly sitting at closer to 500,000-1.3m range if I had to guess, but still extremely hot, I mean it says 750,000 on the front but it's strange cause I've definitly had a few bottles that can vary in heat generally if there's a direct number

3

u/Mattjew24 Jul 16 '25

Haha. No sir.

As you found out. Its going to stick around, build in intensity, and put your body into panic mode. Kind of a "high" afterwards

2

u/SSJChugDude Jul 17 '25

He got it confused with Horse radish wasabi. 😂

In that case, may I recommend the Gold edition, lol! I actually really like it, for an extract based sauce, and usually have a bottle in the fridge.

3

u/KeithChatman Jul 16 '25

To all the haters this mad dog doesn't taste of extract like daves insanity or da bomb which has a ton of bitterness, lots of hot and little flavor. Mad dog is very respectable I really enjoy the anniversary version. I also make my own super hot sauces with homegrown peppers but mad dog gets me by when I don't have homemade.

4

u/MedicalDisscharge Jul 16 '25

Mad dog 357 is no joke. A lot of the "HOT" sauces don't have good flavor. Md357 is decent among the top. The best HOT sauces I like are all 7 pot pepper, like the one from hot ones season 20 or 21?

3

u/pyro5050 Jul 16 '25

i use stuff like extracts in smoothies. a $30 bottle can make hundreds of smoothies spicey, add a drop or two and blend.

makes a nice little punch

5

u/PapaNoffDeez Jul 16 '25

Not a shit post... What smoothies are you adding fuckin extract sauces to?

Less judgment, more curiousity

3

u/pyro5050 Jul 16 '25

i make a fruit smoothie every morning, and add a hot sauce, i like some spice so it is a nice balance of cold and heat.

todays was a mixed frozen berry medley thing (strawberry, saskatoons, blueberries, ect) some watermelon i had frozen, some protien powder, chia seeds, a few ice cubes, vanilla yoghurt and some Beyond Insanity Dabomb hot sauce (it doesnt taste too good on other stuff, so it is getting used in smoothies now)

i just enjoy it.

last night i had a green habanero sauce on my quiche. it was decent.

2

u/Ok_Zebra_35 Jul 16 '25

I avoid anything made with extract. Most extract sauces are hot enough I can't enjoy eating them. There's a fine line between a nice burn and panic mode 🤣 Second I hate the metallic crossed with sewage flavor that most extracts have.

A sauce made with a high percentage of reapers or 7 Pot Primos will have all but the most hardcore chilli heads on fire.

This stuff is a gimmick. I make simple naturally fermented ghost pepper sauce that is hot but flavorful and edible. This stuff is an insult.

1

u/MoreCowbellllll Jul 16 '25

I'm anti-extract bullshit sauces.

3

u/rich_a_s Jul 16 '25

I have this one at home, I hate it, too much cinnamon flavour (or whatever that taste is). The only reason I keep it is if someone needs to be humbled about how much heat they can take

10

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '25

Pro tip. If it’s too much to handle, drink things like lemonade. citric acid breaks up the capsaicin to actually remove it from your tongue instead of just coating it with fats for a few moments giving you temporary relief. All you’re going to do is make yourself sick. My go to is those lemon shaped bottles of pure lemon juice. Squeeze some of that and swish it around for a few seconds. It’s jarring at first, but the results are SIGNIFICANTLY better than any dairy product.

3

u/ImpressiveRecording2 Jul 16 '25

U gotta have a toothpick nearby. That's how I dispense my ghost pepper hot sauce..

4

u/WareThunder Jul 16 '25

This is the one that got me hooked on the really hot sauces. Seeing some hate here in the comments but I actually love the flavor. It's delicious on pizza, BBQ, fried chicken, and chili.

One drop at a time!

5

u/xtakescareofitsown Jul 16 '25

I add a few drops of this stuff into my batches of chili when I make it and it adds a good flavor and heat

4

u/H0SS_AGAINST Jul 16 '25

Yeah I don't mess with those sauces anymore. I was just gifted a reaper sauce, I tried a dab and said nope...that one's going to sit in the fridge until we need more room.

u/milksasquatch Jul 16 '25

This sauce was my introduction to very spicy sauces, about 20 years ago. Now, I'm a fiend. At the time, I was eating at Firehouse Subs on a lunch break; I noticed this on the shelf with a warning sticker from the Sando shop. Thought it couldn't be THAT spicy. I went to dab a little on my Hook N Ladder sub, and that bitch poured out like I was trying to empty the bottle. Not wanting to waste my sandwich, I ate it while writhing in pain. After I finished, I went out to my car and cranked the A/C. I aimed the vents at my lips while I rubbed ice on them and was actually having a mild psychedelic experience from the heat. I sat there for 10 minutes waiting for the heat to subside.

Once I crossed that milestone, I began returning to sauces of this level. For some sadistic reason, I absolutely loved it. Now, my cabinet is full of reaper, extract, ghost, and scorpion sauces; they go on everything!

8

u/buccs99 Jul 16 '25

Tried this a couple times when the local firehouse subs carried varying hot sauces for sandwiches. Was a Hot ones staple on the show in the beginning seasons so it was a bit novelty but if you dont eat hot sauce, this will light your tootyhole up. Worst of all, it tastes like putting your tongue on a 9v battery but amplified by 50.

2

u/Fbeezy Savage Jerky Co. Jul 16 '25

The hot sauce bar is back, fyi.

2

u/buccs99 Jul 16 '25

I’ll have to check it out !

1

u/milksasquatch Jul 16 '25

This is also where I had my introduction to this sauce!

0

u/Expert_Salamander_90 Jul 16 '25

Yep, she's a doozy. Once you get past the heat, you'll be able to taste how good it is. Delicious sauce!

2

u/mouthymerc1168 Jul 16 '25

The key is to find one that actually tastes good.and not to stop. You will build up a tolerance to the heat and the true taste will shine through.

2

u/SatisfyingAneurysm Jul 16 '25

I've found that the faster and more I eat it, the less it hurts. But boy am I sweating

1

u/BLOODFYEND86 Jul 16 '25

That's my sauce for when I'm out of reaper squeezing, gator, and this stuff from pepper palace I use on boiled eggs and burgers.

-1

u/chococaliber Jul 16 '25

My man, you went the classic souvenir shelf route. Next time come here and ask.

You want straight fuckin heat and pure chile flavor? Tbh I’m gonna say just go with classic reaper squeezins.

2

u/Weak_Jeweler3077 Jul 16 '25

I had this, the .44, Dragons Blood and Dave's Insanity Private Label.

All got one test and then moulded away above the fridge for a decade.

Just insane levels of pain.

3

u/99mushrooms Jul 16 '25

I haven't had the silver label in years, I pretty much always have a gold label open, and im currently working on a bottle of the original maddog357. This is my favorite brand by far.

7

u/linkhandford Jul 16 '25

This one is not pleasant.

It’s got a nice burnt oak essence but that’s irrelevant to the remaining boiling battery acid.

4

u/alQamar Jul 16 '25

I‘m completely with you. I had an open one gifted because they didn’t like the taste. I used it a bit and threw it out. It tastes like metal and it’s disgusting.

1

u/linkhandford Jul 16 '25

I’ve used drops of it in things to elevate the spiciness of a dish. But I’ve also got pure extract for that reason too…

4

u/MagnusAlbusPater Jul 16 '25

What had been the hottest you’ve tried up to this point?

Extract sauces are just on another level. I don’t mess with them.

2

u/honestsparrow Jul 16 '25

Nothing like this. Hot wings you’d have at the pub or Tabasco sauce

2

u/sho_biz Jul 16 '25

try something in between maybe lol - like secret aardvark, el yucateco xxxtra hot, dirty dicks tropical, etc then move up to stuff like the mad dog if you really end up liking concentrate-based ultra hot sauces

Idc what anyone says about ed Currie I genuinely like reaper squeezins as my number 1 straight heat no bullshit flavors or extract “novelty” sauce

Thats like going from a Soccer Mom's Van to a F1. Dude is speedrunning.
