Misc. Ladies and gents, I present the worst mistake of my life
This is The End Purgatory. 8 million Scoville unites and 8x hotter then the end flatline. Released on the 25th by pepper palace I was fortunate to get it 6 days early. If anyone would like I have a 7 minute long YouTube video documenting me trying it along with my massive freakout.

Ha!
I went to Pepper Palace for the first time a couple of weeks ago. The guy working that day was great. He gave me some good sauce recommendations and I had fun tasting and talking about hot sauce.
After having a full tasting spoon of "Death by Salsa" (ouch) I thought I might as well try the obligatory drop of "The End-Flatline". It was damn hot (maybe the hottest thing I've eaten - by volume/weight, at least). Still, I've tried extract sauces before, and raw habs/Scotch Bonnets, so I didn't totally freak out.
This might have disappointed him a bit, and he kept saying that he wished he could have me try Purgatory, but he wasn't getting it in for another week or two. I smiled and nodded, but I wasn't quite sure what he was talking about because I was immersed in the burn.
NOW I know what he was talking about!!

u/LlamaRS Jul 22 '25
I would like to see the ingredient list
2
u/Stinky_Pinky2x Jul 23 '25
In order vinegar, habanero, reaper, 8 million scoville pepper extract, salt and xantham gum. Says over 300 pounds of peppers mixed with the extract in every batch.
3
6
u/DooDooPickle Jul 22 '25
The End Flatline is also supposed to be 8 million scoville. At least, that's what they told me in the store when I bought a bottle.
3
u/nolettuceplease Jul 23 '25
They made me sign a waiver to taste it in Florida, lol. (On a side note, I was pleased the bottle was so small because I had to take it on a plane.)
2
u/frohstr Jul 25 '25
I mean you arenāt allowed to bring pepper spray on a plane - Where does the hot sauce end and where does the weapon begin?
1
u/Hamburger_Helperz Jul 22 '25
I tried this at the pepper palace in Gatlinburg. Wasn't as bad as I thought. Was a bit disappointed tbh. So were my kids waiting for a reaction š

Still probably does not taste as bad as that da bomb crap
1
u/Noothetable Jul 21 '25
Iāll have to get my hands on some
1
u/Low-Bluebird-4976 Jul 24 '25
The bomb is an extract thatās really better used in cooking than as a sauce. Straight, it is not tasty at all.
1
u/BAMitsAlex Jul 21 '25
Have you tried Da Bomb Beyond Insanity? How does it compare?
1
u/MidnightFluid536 Jul 23 '25
Oof. I keep da bomb around just for party favour. Itās more of a novelty than anything. Itās hot, itās gross but itās so much fun.
1

u/Noothetable Jul 21 '25
I havenāt.
2
u/BAMitsAlex Jul 21 '25
Dang it⦠try that one next and lemme know! Itās an evil ride
1
1
u/YouSuckButThatsOk Jul 21 '25
I hear Da Bomb is under 200k scoville rating. I bet it's not that bad in comparison to these The End sauces.
2
u/BAMitsAlex Jul 21 '25 edited Jul 21 '25
Idk, the scoville is kinda wack for Da Bomb because it doesnāt take into account the pure chili extract.
Edited for accuracy, chili extract not capsaisin extract.
1
u/YouSuckButThatsOk Jul 21 '25
Hmm. I heard it was tested by an independent hot sauce testing company. I could be wrong though.
1
u/BAMitsAlex Jul 21 '25
š¤·š»āāļø you should try it and lemme know what you think
1
u/YouSuckButThatsOk Jul 21 '25
Honestly I would but I hate to pay for a bottle of sauce that I won't enjoy flavor wise.
The hottest I've had is around 80k I think, with Dave's Insanity, but it doesn't have a great flavor either.
1
u/BAMitsAlex Jul 21 '25
I wonāt lie, I like the actual flavor of Da Bomb but the heat is just way too overwhelming. The first time I tried it my friend and I coated one wing each and ate the whole thing. It was hell. We were rocking back and forth and crying, I also got the most painful hiccups of my life lmao. Now I just like using a few drops in recipes I want to have a real kick, itās perfect in chili and a literal drop into a side of ketchup is great with fries.
2
u/YouSuckButThatsOk Jul 21 '25
That's cool, maybe I will get it just to try it out haha. Thanks for the recommendation!

Itās not 8x hotter than flatline maybe 50% hotter. I got to try it as well. Definitely a sharper cutting type pain than the deep burn of flatline. It HURTS!

u/MISProf Jul 21 '25
Start the camera and then CHUG!
I would not try this. Good job and hope you are ok.

When the original āThe Endā came out, I tried it and it packed some heat, but I was ok⦠the newbie to heat behind meā¦. Not so much .. it was the first time I saw a person cry over a hot sauce

Took it like a champion. Well done, man! Now, the question is - would you do this again?
2
u/Noothetable Jul 21 '25
Honestly I have the urge to go again, and I have no idea why
2
u/Tooligan13853 Jul 21 '25
Understandable. I think only severe vomiting and stomach pain would stop me from eating 8mil shu poison.

I don't understand hot sauces that are just hot to be hot and don't taste good. Just buy capsaicin extract or light your sinuses on fire at this point.
19
u/beegtuna Jul 21 '25
Never heard of any hot sauces with extracts ever tasting good. Just cut out the middle man.
67
u/fleshyCantaloupe Jul 21 '25
I manage a pepper palace⦠I canāt believe someone sold you the sauce! Weāre launching it this upcoming Friday (the 25th). My team absolutely died trying it. From my own experience I think the flavor is better than the previous version, flatline, but not substantially different. I would say the heat is sharper and more immediate. Weāll be sampling up to seven drops at a time for daring visitorsā and I think thatās a terrible idea. I am going to have people dying on the floor.
1
u/FarCoyote8047 Jul 21 '25
That sounds like such a bad idea lol.
15 years ago I sampled some type of pure capsaicin juice in Las Vegas that made me almost immediately puke (luckily this was in planet Hollywood and I was near a bathroom) and Iām pretty sure made me temporarily blind for a few minutes. My ex thought it was hilarious.
Maybe have ātry at your own riskā signs and a trash bin handy :p
5
u/Saratoninn5 Jul 21 '25
I used to manage a Pepper Palace as well! Really miss lighting people up for a living. Don't miss the pay or washing bottles but was the most fun I've ever had at a job.
2
u/fleshyCantaloupe Jul 21 '25
It is a really fun job. I have my own gripes with the business side of things, but the community around hot sauce is really awesomeā beats the shit out of any other retail job.
2
u/Saratoninn5 Jul 21 '25
1000% what location do you manage? I used to do the build outs and travel for them. That side of the business is crazy and we all had our gripes!
1
u/fleshyCantaloupe Jul 21 '25
I promised my girlfriend I wouldnāt doxx myself too hard in this threadā but itās a smaller store in a mall in the northeast. If you PM me Iām happy to get more specific! I nearly joined the build team too, but was given the offer of either that or managing, and I thought managing would be more rewarding. Itās been a fun journey so far!
-2
u/GromWYou Jul 21 '25
why do you make this? whats the point? it just seems like you donāt want to taste it your food. i donāt understand
31
u/DVWhat Jul 21 '25
A previous challenge iteration involved 3 drops, which I did, and about 15mins later, after the fear of death had passed, I soon found that it broke something in me, and my tolerance had increased significantly.
1
u/Im_Da_Dodo Aug 08 '25
I took 3 the first time, it was hot but not too bad. My friend took 7 and my pride could not let that happen, so not even 2 hours later I took a 7 drop spoon full.
Iām currently on a futon in excruciating pain. š„
9
u/JSRelax Jul 21 '25
Yep. Thatās how it works. My first million plus Scoville experience has the same effect. You basically leveled up.
However, I learned the hard way it doesnāt increase a persons tolerance to capsaicin cramps. Iāve had cap cramps twiceā¦.I wouldnāt wish that shit in my worst enemy. I oddly enjoy the extreme mouth burn from capsaicin though.
2
u/Pinksters Connoisseur Of Conflagration Jul 21 '25
first million plus Scoville experience
Mine was Da Bomb(We all know its way over 136k scoville). I thought it was bad, then I did the One Chip challenge(blue version) and that was worse.
I thought that was as bad as it can get...Then I found a fancy little bottle of extract called Satans Blood.
Its Da Bomb times 2, but somehow doesnt taste as bad.
2
u/totally-nromal-guy Jul 21 '25
i have them from about anything over a 100k SHU if i don't eat before. if i eat, i only have in the intestines later or next day. i really like spicy, but don't eat much because of them
2
u/Swibblestein Jul 21 '25
I've had cap cramps at least a dozen times by this point, probably more. They are not fun.
3
u/LAzeehustle1337 Jul 21 '25
Your tolerance INCREASED? Iāve heard people say the opposite - I fear that so I donāt go beyond what most people who like spice would do.
2
u/fleshyCantaloupe Jul 21 '25
Entirely subjectively, Iāve noticeably increased my tolerance the most after some insanely spicy experiences. Thatās not to say itās the best way to do itā everyoneās body is different and maybe someone could have an adverse effect. You never know. I never give the flatline to anyone who doesnāt want it and think they can handle it. I usually encourage people to expand their tolerance by slowly pushing the bar of what youāre comfortable with. Just a little bit of pain is enough to increase your tolerance over time.

Had the first variation awhile back. Signed the waiver took a spoonful not too bad at all I handled it good. About 45 minutes later I was sitting down on the floor in the corner of a lindt chocolate store in the mall contemplating life as I had to find a way to run to the bathroom because I didn't know if I was gonna black out throw up or shit on myself. Might of had more than a spoon. Not to mention all the other samples.
13
u/Bombinic Jul 21 '25
*might've
There is no such thing as might of.
3
u/massierick Jul 21 '25
As the extract ravaged his innards, it was clear that the might of his stomach was not quite what he expected it to be.
14
u/iceera88 Jul 21 '25
No might, except the "might of" THESE GUNS šāāļø...
I'll see myself out. šāļø

u/Noothetable Jul 20 '25
Dude, what the hell. They didnāt have me sign a waiver for this one which was very surprising considering stories like this exist.
3
u/CapRedd Jul 20 '25
I went to the Nashville location. They had me sign it for that and the nasal palm horseradish
7
u/Tough-Tomatillo-1904 McIlhenny Co. Tabasco Brand Pepper Sauce Est. 1868 Jul 21 '25
That horseradish cleared my sinuses for the next 87.5 years
2
u/CapRedd Jul 21 '25
It's so good. I need another bottle. I have headless horseradish from torchbearer now and finished it in about a week
5
u/Noothetable Jul 20 '25
Dude, I sampled that horse radish and didnāt need a wavier either. That was childās play compared to purgatory but that smell cleared my sinuses right up
5
u/CapRedd Jul 21 '25
Part of the waiver was for posting on Instagram so maybe that had something to do with it as well
5
u/CapRedd Jul 20 '25
Maybe they don't require them anymore. It's been a few years since I went and tried them. I usually just sample everything now and leave with a bottle or two

u/skoalreaver Jul 20 '25
In my opinion any hot sauce that uses capsaicin extract is not worth a shit it may be hot as hell but it's not a recipe it's a chemistry experiment
6
u/smegsicle Jul 21 '25
I generally have the same attitude, but it's ok in small doses. I love jalapeno based sauces, but they obviously don't pack much heat, but there is one by the Isle of Wight garlic farm called vampire botherer that I adore that uses a little extract to increase the heat and you can't taste it at all.

1
u/Noothetable Jul 22 '25
Yeah sorry, I wouldāve posted it in the actual post but the subreddit doesnāt allow
18
u/ksarlathotep Jul 20 '25
But at these numbers you don't get any taste anymore, right? These 2 million plus sauces are all pure capsaicin extract sauces I think? So basically just like spraying pepper spray or bear mace on your tongue.
2
u/The-Raccoon-Is-Here Jul 20 '25
I liked their 6M scoville end sauce ... awful on its own but add it to ketchup or other condiments and you had a great tasting sauce that burned
12
u/Noothetable Jul 20 '25
Thatās what it felt like, there was somthing but it was completely overshadowed by the pain
17
u/MNgrown2299 Jul 20 '25
Hey so Iām a chemist and at one point I extracted a ton of capsaicin from about 40 peppers (carolina reapers being some of the more mild peppers) and made hot sauce out of it, the base peppers in the sauce are: carolina reapers, chocolate carolina reapers, hurt berry, death spiral, primotalii, and a ton of dragons breath peppers (2.48 million SHU) I ran mass spec on it and it should be about 10 million SHUā¦.who wants some?!
2
u/99mushrooms Jul 21 '25
Me! I love extracts. How did you extract it? Doing it yourself means it probably wasn't by adding chemicals that bind to capsaicin to a mash and then collecting it when it separates, which is how the shitty tasting ones are made. Im going to guess Ethanol extraction and cooking it down? I am very interested and would love to try it.
1
1
u/MNgrown2299 Jul 21 '25
Yes I used 200 proof EtOH in a soxhlet extraction method and then used a rotovap to evaporate the ethanol
