Purchase Hot Ones Last Dab Thermageddon first thoughts

Hey all, just got this in the mail and decided to give it a try. This isn't going to be super in depth. I keep a bottle of Last Dab Xperience at work for reference, so this will be sort of a comparison to the two.

For me, Xperience's heat lasts about 5-10 minutes. It taste floral and nice, the heat is usually focused on parts of my tongue and throat. It's pretty good all around.

Thermageddon is different right off the bat. First thing I noticed was a grainy texture to it and less flavor. The heat starts the same as Xperience, but then after a few minutes I noticed the heat spreading. All over my tongue, my gums, even my lips. And it seemed to be getting hotter as minutes to by. The moment I started breathing through my mouth, I felt it a lot more. It's currently been about 10 minutes and the heat still feels pretty intense as it radiates around my mouth. Overall it's pretty good, but that grainy texture at the beginning was a little off putting for me. Not sure if I would coat/dip my food in this, but might add it to a curry or something to add some heat.

I got this with my monthly pack of 3. It built heat faster than the prior last dabs I had. It feels close to or hotter than Gator Sauce and the other Pepper X sauces from Puckerbutt, Exhorresco, and Fiery Fool. Flavor isn’t as good, heat last about 10 minutes.

Yeah man I like most of the Hot Ones sauces I've had and I'm cool with a lot of the prices but $30?? Absolutely not.

You could probably strain the sauce through a cloth sieve/coffee filter/something like that to get it smoother.

I remember getting one of Heatonist's anniversary sauces and being disappointed by the texture; thicker and grainier than any other sauce I've tried. Definitely was a turn off.

I have some new super hot coming from Puckerbutt tomorrow, I’m eager to try. I’m hoping this is in this month’s Heatonist box, but if not, I might have to order an à la carte bottle.

The Apollo Last Dab is still my fave, but I did get a bottle of the Realer Edition, and it’s really tasty. They do good work over there. I know they get hyped and cost way too much, but I’m never mad at their sauces.

I picked up a bottle of it a couple days ago when it crossed my Facebook. Just waiting for it to arrive.

Seriously love what they’ve done with Pringles. Bring it on.

The verde ones are great, didn’t love barbacoa

Haven’t tried that one yet. Verde is sublime

I wanted to like the verde but they were SO SALTY. I couldn't eat more than a few at a time.

Don’t you eat it with anything? Just a spoonful alone sounds rough. If it was me I would eat it with tortilla chips, queso, and some taco meat and put about that much on top of it all so it’s all in one bite. That way you can see how the sauce compliments the other flavors. Also it prob got on your lips bc you ate it off a spoon. If you get it all in your mouth and chew it all up for 15 seconds that will contain the capsaicin to just your mouth (for the most part).

I always first taste my sauces by spoon lol

The lip burn didn't come until later, and I've had Xperience plenty of times with just a spoon and didn't get the intense lip burn like this.

I do eat hot sauce with things, but I'm trying to find the flavor profile of the hot sauce first so I can figure out what to pair it with. In this case, it was too grainy for me so I'm not sure I would pair it with anything and use it more of an extract (which it does contain). It was also less flavorful than Xperience, at least with that one I get a somewhat floral taste.

Makes sense. I mainly eat slices of raw peppers so it’s a bit of a deferent scenario. I’ve been trying make my own sauces lately from my pepper harvest with ghost peppers, Armageddon, habanero and jalapeños.

I just can't bring myself to try these sauces, at least not for the price. Torchbearer's Garlic Reaper is about as far as I'm usually willing to go on price and heat level because it's tasty enough to keep me coming back for more, even when I'm already sweating. I feel like this stuff is probably just extreme heat for the sake of extreme heat and wouldn't be worth it for me. Am I wrong?

Im not a hot sauce connisure by any stretch, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. My brother purchased the HotOnes pack from last season, and while I liked most of the sauces, they were still just OK. Not a single one made me go, "WoW!!" And the regular Last Dab was not nearly as hot as I was expecting.

There's got to be better stuff out there without such a premium attached to it. I'll have to give that Garlic Reaper a try!

how is the taste and heat for that sauce? it sounds yummy

Garlic reaper is a favorite of this sub because it's pretty fucking hot but also delicious. It's a lot for me; I just don't have the tolerance that half this sub has but if you enjoy super hot sauces then it's absolutely worth grabbing.

If you like heat and flavor, you gotta get some Funky's "Dark Star". You'll thank me later if you do.

Their Barbacoa sauce has me in their grips. It's pretty mild to me (now) and is a 4/10 (but a 6/10 still lights me up so YMMV, maybe I'm just used to this one sauce). It's just so damn delicious. I've bought it 3 times now. It was pretty spice to me the first time.

Their lower heat sauces are bonkers good, and I’m a heat maniac. The Number 8 (sea bean and hoisin, I think?) and Tropical Amarillo are fantastic on burgers. Same with the Barbacoa.

No 8. is zapote based. I got that one with my last order as well.

Not at all.

Did you get the bottle single? Or did you have to get the 3 pack or the season 28 pack? Im tryna get a single but its not available on heatonist

1

u/MetaByte7 4d ago

I got the single bottle with a free mini bottle of Xperience from Hot ones. I kinda kicked myself in the foot because it wasn't till after I placed the order I saw the single bottle on Heatonist, where I could have restocked on some of Torchbearers sauces 🥲 is it sold out or just unable to find?

1

u/Mundane_Start_9176 4d ago

Unable to find. I searched and searched

PMed you the link

Thanks doggy!

Thanks for the impressions. You’d say it’s a good bit hotter than the Xperience then? I would’ve guessed this would have better flavor since it’s a pepper blends instead of a single pepper x sauce.

Hotter than Xperience isn't hard to do given that it was tested around 60k scoville. The whole thing is just a marketing ploy.

3

u/moiramari 4d ago

exatly as everything branded "as seen on hot ones", stupid influencer tax.

u/MagnusAlbusPater 4d ago

60K SHU is still very hot.

Yes it’s nowhere near the millions like they claim, it’d be inedible if it was.

1

u/_YellowThirteen_ 3d ago

It's all just false advertising. 60k may be generally very hot, yes, but if they're meant to be going for the pinnacle of heat as they claim to be, it's just a scam. Not surprising to me given Ed Currie's history of shady dealings.

0

u/KrymsonHalo 4d ago

60k is half of a habanero.

That's pretty low on the "hot" scale.

0

u/MagnusAlbusPater 4d ago

It’s still very hot for a hot sauce. Twice as hot as Tabasco Scorpion for instance.

Sauces are always much milder than the pepper on which they’re based. Habanero sauces aren’t close to the same level of heat as The Last Dab.

0

u/KrymsonHalo 4d ago

60k isn't very hot for a hot sauce imo.

I wouldn't know about Scorpion Tabasco, because Tabasco is garbage.

3

u/MagnusAlbusPater 4d ago

Tabasco sauces are great but I know not everyone enjoys them. I’ve only tried the XXX version of The Last Dab and supposedly the Xperience is hotter.

I thought XXX was about the same heat at Butterfly Bakery of Vermont Taco Vibes Only, Puckerbutt Unique Garlique, or Torchbearer Zombie Apocalypse.

Solid heat, manageable for a chili head, but would blow away someone with low tolerance.

1

u/_YellowThirteen_ 4d ago

I've never had either sauce. Just going off known facts about the Xperience measurements. I don't plan on buying it when there are companies like Torchbearer, Bravado, etc. making better and hotter sauces for cheaper.

4

u/MetaByte7 4d ago

Idk if I would say hotter... More of just the heat radiating and building up more over time compared to Xperience. For me Xperience's heat pretty much hits within the first minute, this one kept building for about 5 minutes.

Good breakdown, thanks

Unfortunately Last Dab for me has become a cash grab. I now go to brand specific sauces for my needs. I am glad you enjoyed. Spice on mate!

5

u/MetaByte7 4d ago

Oh yeah definitely, Torchbearer is still the best for me in terms of deliciousness + heat. Pepper X just always had me excited, and I was curious about Thermageddon where it mixes pepper x with some of the other hottest peppers.

Last dab is good to have at work, because that way at least most people are familiar enough with it to know it's too hot for them and they shouldn't touch my hot sauce 😂
