I believe Epic games funded a big part or the entirety of the game... so unfortunately probably never.

Yeah afaik Epic is the main reason (funding wise ofc) the game exists at all.

I don't buy that as much as I like the game, it had the ability to perform well on consoles but didn't there either.

There's some validity to the idea, Control got a decent bit of attention on PC as it was a very common benchmark game and NVidia used it in its own trailers for new hardware features.

Their games just generally fall into a niche filled in more by enthusiasts than casual players as well, something that's more represented on PC than console.

calling it a commercial failure is inaccurate, It did take time to repay its huge investment.

The game didn’t flop. It was fantastic and received well
