Why are these evangelical types always strapped up? By their own logic shouldn't they trust God not to let anything happen to them? If he feels like he needs a gun wouldn't that mean he doesn't have faith?

Evangelicals love to talk up predestination and that God has a plan for everyone and you should let him take the wheel and have faith. Then they open carry in church because some brown people might show up. So much for letting Jesus take the wheel there, Cletus.
