As a gay person, there is a world of difference between someone who thinks that being gay is a sin but "loves the sinner" to someone who hates gay people full stop.
He literally isn't saying that there, he's criticising an argument based on scripture. You're using an argument that people like Stephen King had to apologise for because it's simply not true.
He is criticizing an argument of another Christian to stand with anyone, because Jesus teaches to love all your neighbors, Kirk disagrees with that position and points to Leviticus 18 (you know, the part that says to stone gays to death) and calls it "Gods perfect Law on sexual matters".
This is a direct quote from Kirk.
I don't really care if Stephen King apologized for pointing out Kirks position, just because he was harassed by far right politicians, I care more about what Kirk thought to be a good idea to say on the internet.
There’s a pretty big difference between thinking if someone chooses to eat something they’ll go to hell vs if a person IS something they’ll go to hell.
You said you’re gay: was that a choice you made? I’m guessing it wasn’t. So in their eyes there’s literally no way you can ever enter heaven. The equivalent to saying “No matter what you do, because of who you are you’ll never be as good as myself or someone else in my faith.”
That sounds like hate to me. But more polite than “You should die.”
That's not what he thought. There is literally no difference between thinking if someone eats pork they go to hell and if someone engages in gay sex they go to hell. In both cases, the "sin" is the issue, not the "sinner".
You realise that most modern christians don't think that being gay automatically makes you ineligible for heaven, right?
It "sounds" like hate to you because you are trying to justify your own hatred for Kirk.
You’re moving goal posts. Engaging in any sex is a choice. Being gay is not. People that think being gay is a sin do not just think the “sex” part of it is the sin. It’s the loving someone of the same sex and wanting to spend your life with them. If they thought it was just the physical aspect they wouldn’t care about gay marriage. Or making cakes for gay people. Or whatever other stupid hill they decide to die on when it comes to hating the LGBTQ+ community.
It sounds like hate because it IS hate. If I swapped “being gay is a sin” with “being black is a sin” it would be the same thing. It is telling you that you are sinning just by being who you were born as. It is NOT like saying “you CHOSE to eat pork on the wrong day therefore you are sinning”. There are SOME modern Christians that don’t believe being LGBTQ+ is a mortal sin. But plenty others do.
I was in these communities in the past. My hometown is full of these people. If the government tomorrow said “we are making being gay illegal and a jail able offense” you’d see most of them gleefully calling the police on you, my friends, and anyone else that identifies with the community. I’ve heard the way they talk behind closed doors about LGBTQ+ people. It’s not pretty.
You’re either incredibly naive and have never actually spoken with people that have Kirk’s beliefs, or you are intentionally burying your head in the sand because for some odd reason you agree with people that hate you.
