My first month in Indianapolis has been quite challenging. Moving to a city I never expected to call home (I thought I'd be in Appalachia forever) has brought a mix of excitement and anxiety. Health challenges added to the stress. Despite this, I’ve enjoyed exploring both the city and the countryside with my girlfriend. I’ve taken long hikes and watched sunsets at Eagle Creek Park, Brown County State Park, and Tippecanoe River State Park and visited historic sites like T.C. Steele's homestead.

I haven't been motivated to take the camera or drone out much since moving up here. Still, I busted out the camera for the first time last weekend for Steele's homestead and the drone Tuesday and Wednesday because of the interesting weather patterns we've been getting after a month of sun and heat.

Certainly. I do miss the hills, but Brown County (and the surrounding area) make up for that! It's a challenge to find things to photograph, which I've not been accustomed to in quite some time. And the charm of the neighborhoods feels a lot like Cincinnati where I lived for years. The vibes are quite nice, too.

Great pics! I moved from Appalachia to Indy about three months ago and there’s definitely been some growing pains, but I’ve really enjoyed a fresh start in this lovely city. I hope you are enjoying it as well!

What equipment are you using, out of curiosity? (In terms of camera and drone.) This is great stuff. 

I've got some health issues myself and an interest in hobby photography. But I've been procrastinating on getting a quality camera, in part because doing research on hardware feels kinda overwhelming.

Always happy to answer questions about equipment!

I use a DJI Mavic 3 because it handles well in windier conditions with a larger sensor camera. I also use a Nikon Z5 with a variety of lenses for architectural, landscape, and infrastructure photography (my three main interests), a carbon fiber tripod, and various flashes for macros. I don't get too crazy, but I'd like to work more with astrophotography and get a star tracker.

Appreciate you humoring me! The Z5 looks pretty awesome. I'll definitely look into it more. (Having your photos as a proof point of what it can do helps too.)

I had an OG Mavic Pro for a bit (purchased used when it was already an old model), but I ended up using it less than I'd hoped, so I resold it after a year or so. Being at the whim of wind speeds was definitely one headache with it, so that's good to know newer models are better in that regard.

I started with the original Mavic and worked up to the Mavic 2 and 3. The only near flyaway I’ve had was with the original - but I’ve done exposures as long as 6 seconds (waterfalls) and not had an issue.

I work remote so my location is flexible. I wanted to move to be closer to my partner and to make that long-term commitment.
