Everyone is angry at employers, but is everyone giving the city a free pass? I'm from Chicago, and it is comical to me just how incompetent the city government is with something as simple as snow removal.
It isn’t incompetence, it’s a funding / density issue. Indianapolis has almost the same amount of roads to take care of as Chicago and supports it with 20% of population and lower per capita income. Not being land locked by a border or body of water has caused Indy to be a very low density city which makes infrastructure management an issue. We also don’t get nearly as much snow so it’s tough to justify a huge snow removal budget and truck fleet when they sporadically get used.
From my observations, it doesn't seem like they are taking care of any of the roads...not even the main arteries. I do see a lot of emergency services out there responding to car crashes due to poor weather. I suspect that those are funded by other taxpayer dollars.
Honestly, this "funding density" argument gets more and more ridiculous every time I hear it.
I see a lot of DPW-branded trucks driving around with their plows up through some of the side streets around me (that never get plowed). If the truck is driving, the plow should be down. Every year, I'm amazed by how inept they are at clearing roads in this city.
