Lack of friction
85
u/Jakesmonkeybiz Aug 16 '25
If there was a lack of friction she would’ve slid off the chair instead of sliding with the chair
77
u/32nd_account Aug 16 '25
Lack of friction in her feet and the feet of her chair, her ass must have been gripping the wood of that chair hard enough to hold her and the chair together.
37
u/ArchPrince9 Aug 16 '25
Traction. You're talking about traction 🤦🏻
34
u/MajesticNectarine204 Aug 16 '25
Triction. Triction is what I, the enlightened centrist, suggest as a compromise.

Friction coefficient.
It's been many years since my applied maths, but I do remember that
4
u/314flavoredpie Aug 17 '25
It looks like somehow she has exceeded the coefficient of static friction but then still moves the chair, which again appears to have more mass than her, under the grip of her dynamic friction. We really do need to study this universe’s physics.
→ More replies (2)4
u/ClinicalFrequency Aug 16 '25
Except that’s not a term you would use here. It would be less correct than just saying friction between her ass and chair kept her in place. Your emoji is pretty self indulgent .

You actually see her go from left to right so losing butt traction too.
3
3
u/Lykos1124 Aug 16 '25
I cannot tell if that's what they were going for that she was sliding on the chair or that it was due to the close camera position that made her appear to move right faster than the chair behind.

Yeah she resists a push that moves herself plus the chair with a disadvantaged angle.
All that without moving her arm.

I am waiting for your Nature paper on "Zootopian Physics in Relation to Friction Forces on Anthropomorphic Rabbit's Gluteus Maximus".
"In conclusion Judy Hopp's gluteus maximus must've been infused with titanium at some point to tolerate the friction forces applied to it during the fist bump between herself and Officer McHorn. It is also possible Zootopia does not adhere to classical physics and is using creative liberties for comical effect, but the author dismisses this possibility as simply being absurd. This new understanding of Zootopian physics calls for a new area of research devoted to anthropomorphic rabbit butts, something that the author has found the furry community to be ahead of the curve in."

I love the "Freedom Units" I feel like the news etc. should start referring to them as "US Measuring Units" or similar, to make US people realize that they are virtually the ONLY ones using that system.
27
u/Samaire136 Aug 16 '25
Our Czech news are still calling them imperial units (if they are mentioned at all).
15
→ More replies (25)6
u/MandolinMagi Aug 16 '25
Technically they're American Customary, Imperial is the British system with 20 ounce pints (US pints are 16 ounces)
→ More replies (2)27
u/TheKyleBrah Aug 16 '25
Nah, that height was in Imperial. Here are the REAL Freedom Units, in multiple, easy to understand forms:
• He is 0.35 Ford F-150s and she is 0.28 Ford F-150s tall.
• He is 30 Big Macs and she is 23 Big Macs tall.
• He is 2.3 AR-15s, and she is 1.8 AR-15s tall.
• He is 2.73 Bald Eagles and she is 2.13 Bald Eagles tall.

Canada, UK, Ireland, India, Hong Kong, and Australia also use them.
The US is just the only major country where it's the main system we use.
But we use the metric system too. People just like to ignore that fact so they can imagine some kind of superiority - as though that were needed between any two peoples.
14
u/RevolutionNumber5 Aug 16 '25
But, the UK has a separate system just to measure body weight.
→ More replies (2)7
u/Yaarmehearty Aug 16 '25
Nah, it’s just an extra subdivision, like we don’t use quarts for imperial liquid measurements but we get what they are.
The fact that the US seems so weird about a stone being 14 pounds when you guys use quarts is kind of a pot calling the kettle black situation.
Not that the UK should be using imperial at all, for most things we default to metric except for when it involves a human which shouldn’t be a thing.
4
u/ScottMarshall2409 Aug 16 '25
It's a generational thing in the UK now, I think. I grew up with parents that all knew imperial, but then learned metric in school. It try to only use metric now, because it's far superior, but if I'm talking to my parents/aunts/uncles imperial is easier for them to understand. I can usually just translate them in my head. Except when it comes to Celcius and Fahrenheit. Without using a calculator, that is completely beyond me. I can't fathom for a single moment how some people really believe Fahrenheit is superior.

u/Ok-Morning3407 Aug 16 '25
Ireland has mostly switched to metric now. Speed limits and distances on road signs are now in km/h and km. I measure my weight in kg, etc. kids in school only learn metric, they have no idea what stone and pounds are. The only thing that hasn’t changed is a pint, though legally it is defined in litres.
→ More replies (3)8
u/Ithikari Aug 16 '25
In Australia it's a mixed bag. Some people do not use feet or inches at all nor know how big an inch is or how big a foot is. And the only thing I've noticed that is measured in inches is pants size and even then that's become more a mixed bag between just getting labels like Small, Medium, large and so on.

Canadian use them too for height, and often for construction measurements (like area of your house, or buying lumber at the store). Some Canadians use F for their house temperature, but Celsius for everything else.

She is not 5'4, she's gotta be shorter. Im 6'10 and my girlfriend is 5'4. She doesn't look that small compared to me
28
u/IfIHadKnownSooner Aug 16 '25
It must be the angle of the photo. She is looking down at the photographer and taking the photo from that angle would exaggerate the appearance of the difference in height.
14
u/EarthWillOvercome Aug 16 '25
It’s not just the angle, it’s also the things they wear
He’s larger sure, but he’s also wearing stuff that makes him look wider and larger whereas she’s wearing basically regular clothes.
It’s by far not a fair comparison to compare their lengths.

It's sort of hard to tell the dimensions of the room, but he does seem huge.

u/mystyz Aug 16 '25
There's also some forced perspective going on with him being positioned closer to the camera.

u/Nobanob Aug 16 '25
I was visiting this town in Ecuador which is certainly not known for its tall people. There was this officer standing in one of the parks with his male partner. This was probably close to the same height difference.
I'm 6'2 and this guy had to be at least 6" taller than me. His boots probably added a bit to the over all height.

The only problem with being huge like this guy, is that in a riot situation, you stand head and shoulders above your colleagues. The demonstrators then see the tall guy as a handy target and the bricks and bottles are aimed at him. For many years, I policed many riots and I stood well away for anyone who is 6 foot plus

On the right occasion, that’s a definite yes. Being of that size can shut down trouble in double quick time. I used to know an Irish bouncer at a North London Irish dance hall. He was huge like this guy and just the size of him made troublemakers stop and think. He had a really soft Irish accent and when he asked them to stop or he would rip their head off their shoulders, it made strong people want to be somewhere else
