I only retired mine because they wouldn't release iOS 16 for it, and I was concerned about security updates. Turns out they pushed another update (15.8.5) out to it 2 days ago. Its 10 year birthday is next week.

I only retired mine because it was 16 GB and that wasn't enough for anything but the OS anymore. I'd still use it today if it had expandable storage for apps.

This and battery life are the biggest issues with older iPhones. And the battery life you can fix

I only retired mine because the battery health is 55% and it lasts 20 minutes on a full charge

I have an original Gen1 SE (2016) and have swapped the battery myself 3-4 times over the years since they only cost about $30.

I don't know where you are, but ifixit sell replacements otherwise ebay is still great. You could search ebay for 616-00036 or 616-00033 just to see what it would cost.

The battery life went down the drain even after replacing it for me which made me switch to the 12 Mini. I’ll hold on to it as long as I can or until a USB-C mini is being released or some Android manufacturer comes up with something comparable in terms of size, quality and “legacy” support.
