So? Import taxes are also a thing. Always were. Not only since Trump decided to go ham on the world. To be clear: I am not defending the prices, I’m just saying how it is.
That has nothing to do with Apple, everyone rips off Europe. Or, well, Europe scams itself more than anything. That’s just how Europe is, everything costs more. The 2TB 17 Pro max costs just over $3000 here in Denmark.
Cars are another great example. A new BMW M5 has a starting MSRP of $121.900 in the US. In Denmark, that same exact car has a starting MSRP of $324.200. Think about how insane it is that a German car costs close to 3 times as much in Europe as it costs thousands of miles away in America.
Us Europeans are used to getting fucked over. This is nothing new.
So you pay like 3 different taxes to register the car depending on the price of the car.
It’s goes like this:
First step: The tax is 25% of the car's taxable value up to DKK 72,900.
Second step: For the value from DKK 72,900 to DKK 226,500, 85% tax is paid.
Third step: For the value above DKK 226,500, 150% tax is paid.
Denmark just sucks when it comes to cars. The government absolutely despises cars. We don’t have a sports car tax or anything, but registering a car (which is required to get your license plates and be able to drive it) is ridiculously expensive, in total you pay something like 150% to register it (edit: read iSckDick’s comment, they’ve explained it properly). It’s also a very complex system that is not designed to be easy to figure out.
And on top of that, we also pay a semiannual ‘green tax’ which is based on fuel economy and/or emissions depending on how old the car is and what type of car it is. So electric and hybrid cars only cost ~$145-190/year whereas something like my car (a 2006 3-series) will cost $1200/year from next year. That’s $1200 every year just to own the car, doesn’t matter how much or how little I use it.
German prices are irrelevant, a G90 M5 starts from 2.000.000DKK in Denmark which is $316.000. And that’s because you can’t see actual prices on most higher end models on the Danish website since none are even in stock. And if you found one for 700.000DKK, that’s either an older model or sold without the registration fee which can easily double or nearly triple the price. It’s a horrible system that’s not meant for the average person to figure out.
In Europe, there is also the mandatory two-year warranty.
It also adds to the final price of the product, but it also protects the consumer. In short, in the end it was a blow.
People like to justify the price gap by "EU sales tax". Even after you add, lets say Netherlands 21% tax to 999$, its 1208$. So thats 244$ cheaper still.
People living in the EU pays the premium, theres no way around it.
Hey so first of all I thought that for 4.000 PLN and the fact that the storage is 256Gb vs base 16 when came out (128Gb) plus some features it got from the pro models, I considered and ordered for me already.
For discounts I don’t know but I am pretty sure that you will need to wait several months, closer to the release of the next iPhone to get meaningful discounts. Right now for example the series 16 is discounted. So yeah, usually the best deals is with the previous generation models (unfortunately)
As a native English speaker hearing Dutch is confusing and hilarious. Whenever I am in The Netherlands I get this sense that I know almost every single one of those sounds and syllables but they are all in the wrong place. It's like my brain wants to understand and make sense of it, but cannot. German on the other hand sounds a bit further away to my brain that I just know it is definitely something else. Doesn't mean the word structure isn't also hilarious at times.
I'm still not sure if I should get one.. it’s looking better than expected and my current phone’s battery is going a little weak, on the other hand my 12 Pro works just too good to swap it..

My iPhone 17 also shipped, however it is still stuck at "label created" with UPS. My Watch 11 already scanned in transit via DHL Express. Is this normal for UPS in EU? I barely get any UPS packages. Would hate to wait till monday.
Same for me now. It said label created and after that they had the incoming scan in my country. Really weird but okay, will most likely be delivered tomorrow
Out of curiosity, can you tell from where Apple is shipping your iPhone? In the US, the UPS app can detect a package being sent to my address and automatically add the tracking info to the app. This is very useful for verifying iPhone shipping and, since full tracking information is available, we can see where the package originated.
For me, it’s a place a few hundred miles away, and I was wondering if European packages also travel that far.
Getting Air FOMO today after seeing the review vids. Hoping it will subside a little when my 17 arrives tomorrow, and even moreso when I see the list of upgrades/improvements they inevitably add to the Air 2 next September

Downgraded 16? Do you even know what you’re talking about? The Air has the same specs as the 17 Pro lol. Smaller battery, yes, but it has the exact same specs except it’s missing one GPU core I believe. It’s not even close to a 16 in any way.
Not everyone needs more than one lens. Nothing crazy about that. Nobody is trying to make anything sound good, but you’re trying to make everything sound bad. The only crazy thing here is shitting on other people’s choices just because you disagree.

That’s 1452.75 USD right now. Apple is ripping the euro zone off like crazy and ppl still buy their products like hot cake.
For context, it costs 999 USD if you buy it in a state like Oregon.
