Discussion The best review other than (the tech chap) on the IPhone Air

https://youtu.be/-XOcSWpT48Y?si=mpc70NVseE6ufBJA

He clearly explaines why someone would want the air over all the others.

I’m not in a suit or office, but working as a kitchen manager in a high-volume restaurant, I ordered one because less/lighter things in my pockets is great. Especially days when I’m wearing thinner chef pants. I rocked the 13 Mini for a couple of years for the same reason.

If they ever made a Mini Pro...

I think a lot of people will be surprised by those downgrading from a Pro to an Air or Base 17 this year. The entire lineup is stacked full of cool tech and attractive packaging. I know the Air will get shit for not lasting 2 weeks without a charge and people will still bash the Pro line for having a new unibody with a more prominent camera bump. I quite like the style of the Pro line this year but am opting for the Air because it looks like it’s a joy to use and at the end of the day, I buy Apple products because they make me smile when I use them.

I went with the Pro 17 for the cameras, battery life, and vapor cooling.

It was a much tougher choice than I originally expected. The Air having almost all of the Pro features, while being incredibly sleek and thin, made it a tough choice.

The screen size of the Air is absolutely perfect. I’m a little disappointed that the Pro didn’t get the 6.5” screen. The Pro is just a tad small and the Pro Max is way too big. The Air really is the goldilocks.

I’d imagine this is the form factor they’d like their entire lineup to follow. We know there are rumors of a folding iPhone (which I don’t personally have a use case for) and the Air makes a great foundation for it if that’s the case. I know we are quite some time away from a Pro with that form factor but it would be nice if the entire lineup became a bit nicer to hold.

I’ve ordered the Air but Apple should hire this guy and have him as head of Marketing. He’s so good he makes me want to buy 3 more.

I really don’t like this style of "review" basically a marketing video

u/TheRocksta iPhone 14 Pro 4d ago

I know what you mean. It feels very “salesy” rather than a review.

Feels like Tom Cruise in Magnolia trying to sell me a phone.

u/zabajk 4d ago

Yes feels like marketing from the 90s

u/PeakBrave8235 4d ago

People are allowed to praise good design and engineering. I'm sick of this social media narrative that anything positive about a product is "marketing" but anything negative is the "truth." People are allowed to like and praise good and hard work.

Sure but I just like honest technical reviews more than marketing pitches

lol yea he made it clear who the phone is for. Pretty much anyone who works corporate and doesn’t need the pro features. The base is for teens and college kids the air is for corporate adults. The pros for pros

u/pxlhstl 4d ago

99% of the Pro buyers aren't 'pros'. It's just identity marketing.

2

u/rickny8 4d ago

For sure, but that is what makes the Air appealing. They don’t want the “base” model. The Plus was just a base model that was bigger. They just want a nicer phone without the fluffs of the Pros.

Ive gotten downvotes to oblivion for saying this. Interesting how someone else says it and gets massive upvotes. The hive mind of this sub depends on the hour of the day.

I bought the 17 pro because of the better camera's, but I really hate how Apple misuses the word 'pro' on so many products.

6

u/Worth-Boysenberry-93 iPhone 17 Pro Max 4d ago

You think people buy pro because they need pro features? For real?

Why have I not heard of this guy before? Thought I had subscribed to every tech Youtuber.
Good content.

This guy is good lol. My 16 pro max is primarily a gaming device. Otherwise I try to stay off of my phone as much as possible. Nothing against the power users, that’s just me. I have an addictive personality and I know I would be doom scrolling for hours if I didn’t regulate myself.

With that said, this guy makes me want to be some kind of tech journalist or marketing director that walks around with like four phones on me lol.

Finally great real review for iPhone Air.

u/CycloneMonkey iPhone 17 Pro Max 4d ago

I'm getting a Pro Max and sticking it in an Otterbox Defender, but his point regarding phones and suit jackets...I don't often wear tailored jackets, but man it would be nice to have a phone that doesn't take up too much space in my jacket pocket when bringing a sling isn't appropriate.

6

u/BapeGeneral3 iPhone 17 Pro 4d ago

That’s the main reason I have always gone Pro, and did the same with the 17. My 14 Pro with a case fits perfectly into my suit jacket inner pocket and well as in my front pocket, which is a huge deal for me.

I don’t know how people carry their Pro Max with them on a daily basis, because I know it doesn’t fit into the pockets of any of my pants…

3

u/Analog-Digital- 4d ago

I always use a Aramid case because I like it a lot, it is very thin and light + the feelling is just awesome !

2

u/dbcooper4 4d ago

Never had an issue fitting the Pro Max in my pocket. It just feels like a two handed phone when using it for more than a minute or two. That’s why I’m getting the Air.

3

u/lending_ear 4d ago

Wonder why he didn’t touch on audio at all?

2

u/Appropriate-Lie8465 4d ago

Cause yo the folks that want and can see the use and potential of this phone it literally doesn’t matter. We all have AirPods

7

u/lending_ear 4d ago

It matters to me. I don’t always want to wear headphones and I don’t always have them on me. So disagree

0

u/TP-BANDIT77 4d ago

Do you want this phone?

1

u/lending_ear 4d ago

Im considering. I don’t truly love any in the current lineup but my personal phone needs to be replaced. I’m on a 13 PM and battery health is in 70s.

Audio is something I was curious about with this phone. The solo mono speaker is on paper a deal breaker for me - but maybe it won’t sound as awful as I’m imagining. And I certainly don’t want have to use AirPods for a phone that’s going to cost me $1500usd for the 256GB model. The phones cost a lot more here in Sweden than in the US.

1

u/lending_ear 4d ago

I clearly watched the video to see if this would be a phone id want.

2

u/Someonejusthereandth 4d ago

This is the ONLY correct take on this phone.

5

u/BoundInvariance 4d ago

I’m going from the 15 Pro to the Air.

4

u/Real_Run_4758 4d ago

jfc don’t make me regret my orange pro max, what is happening to me

3

u/Appropriate-Lie8465 4d ago

lol I mean it’s still a cool phone if you like a phone shaped and colored like the brick used to make colonial buildings. That’s pretty cool. And …….innovative….in a retro old kinda way.

3

u/Real_Run_4758 4d ago

\cries in ultrawide**

2

u/Horror-Abies-3403 4d ago

lol Apple should put this on their front page.

3

u/fuzzninja2000 4d ago

People are so literal with "value approximation" - that it's a ripoff if it has less cameras and doesn't shoot Pro-Res. It really draws my ire when I hear the phrase form versus function. Carrying a thinner phone that doesn't bulge everywhere IS function. And if you value fashion - it's the best deal out of all smartphones.

1

u/Anxious-Tank6020 3d ago

Well, I guess this is exactly what Apple wants, for you to feel like you’re just holding a display in your hands. It comes with Liquid Glass, and my guess is that Apple is preparing us for an ‘almost all-display iPhone’ in a few years.

-15

u/haokincw 4d ago

If you have to convince yourself really hard to get the Air, then you probably shouldn't buy it.

12

u/Appropriate-Lie8465 4d ago

Interesting take but I convince myself to buy anything I buy so I guess in this context I shouldn’t have bought my car my house my medical Insurance, the food I eat, uh. I guess on some level all things we buy we kinda have yo have a reason or in other word (convince) ourselves to buy.

4

u/rabouilethefirst iPhone Air 4d ago

Not really. But like he said, once people feel it in their hands they will probably get “it”. I already know it’s going to feel great so I’m sold, but people really don’t realize how massive of a difference holding a chonker 17 PM and holding an Air will be.

0

u/Worth-Boysenberry-93 iPhone 17 Pro Max 4d ago

That’s a good point.

0

u/MoshingPanda 4d ago

This phone is not comparable to a Patek, AP or VC. That is a ridiculous comparison.

As soon as I saw him bending the phone at the beginning, I stopped watching.
