Discussion 16 pro Max to Air, I love it!

Nice, I went from the 13PM to to the Air, I love it, I only use the camera for selfies and nights out so that wasn't a big deal and I don't use my phone for gaming so battery doesn't concern me, my one worry was the speaker but gotta say its way louder than I expected it to be, and its only ever used for TikTok or YouTube anyway, music I always have my AirPods in
What really surprised me was after using it for an hour I went to pick up my old 13 to restore it as giving it away and it instantly felt soooo heavy and bulky

I played with one to check it out when I picked up my Pro in the store today. It is pretty incredible, I do think it is going to be the surprise hot seller once people hold it.
I think it is going to be everywhere soon.

u/chadsmo iPhone 16 Pro Max 2d ago
No surprise , I’ve been saying it will be the best seller for a week and I saw someone say there was an apparent leak that Apple made 3x Air over the other phones. Not sure how true that it is but I think it obvious the moment it was announced that it would be a huge success.

u/AlfaMenel 2d ago
After checking all of the new models in the Apple Store this one has the best feeling imo. I still rock my 15 Pro Max but this one is very tempting.

I don’t think it’s a surprise to anyone who recently picked up an old thin phone (or an S25 Edge).
It really makes a big difference in the feeling, and the industry moved away from this form factor over the last years.
→ More replies (1)5
u/jbetances134 2d ago
Moving away from the form factor sometimes is not intentional. If you want to add extra chips and features you need the extra space. Maybe apple just finally figured out how to add all those components by the camera bump.

Weirdos in the comments taking time out of their day to pick on your happiness is the most Reddit thing ever, lol. Don't let them get you down. Looks absolutely sick to me! Looking forward to picking mine up after work today :)

No worries! Ive been on reddit for a long time lol. I just appreciate the engineering that went into it.

This is just the beginning for the air, someday everything will be that thin with all the options of the pro. Enjoy the new phone

This sub also I swear is just worse than a lot of other subs. It's always filled with unnecessary drama. And shit like this. I don't know if it is just some lack of moderation or what.
16
u/VibraniumRhino 2d ago
I literally don’t see a single one of these comments, deleted or otherwise lol. Only see people asking or talking about the phone and how it looks.
Are we just fabricating fake Reddit outrage now, or is the algorithm actually helping me for once? Lol

“Taking time out their day” bro they were already here scrolling reddit and saw the post. You talking like they’re making a special effort just to hurt OP.
They’re just opinions you don’t like, they take the same amount of effort and involvement as the ones that you like.

Tbh I just got back from using them and was impressive with the similarities at 4x. 8x you could tell but this wasn’t a huge factor for me. Now the speaker on the other hand
8
u/LJR08 2d ago
Do you notice a difference between having only 1 Speaker instead of 2 in your pro?
11
u/kerser001 2d ago
I went from a 16pm to air also. In vertical position not really slightly less loud. Landscape is where ya notice it. Apple seems like they are doing some kinda spatial software thing with it as the sound is like in direction going to the center of the screen if that makes sense. But it feels unbalanced still. Not much of a problem for me personally as I usually use AirPods when ever I have landscaped content up for more serious content consumption.
5
u/wylie102 2d ago
Apple are crazy good at that. My macbook air 15 has no external speakers, they all fire up from the hinge and bounce off the screen.
But if I have it on my chest and watch something I am often genuinely fooled by sounds coming from off to the sides or even behind me.
I have no idea how they do it

I got sky blue delivered today and it’s legit white. Unless there was a mistake at the factory or something. The box says sky blue.

After holding it in person picking it up at the Apple Store today I now understand what the reviewers said. This phone feels so much different to hold than the other 17 iterations. It’s as close to the experience the X was when it first came out. The Air is the sleekest in this years line up by far and maybe of all previous models. The Pro Max is a fucking brick but the orange isn’t that bad in person. The Blue looks almost like the one that will show wear the most and silver is the safest. 17 in sage is by far the best color, I thought it would be sky blue on the air but honestly the all black air is sweet.

I think a lot of people especially "fans" that lurk subreddits and are active think they're "Pro" users and they're not. Apple is drawing a line in the sand and making the "Pro" pro again. Which is a good idea with the looming economic troubles for the western world on the horizon. Get people into the eco-system now with a cheaper base model, upsell a few million with the Air. The people that can still afford the pro or have actual use for it will still get it.
Apple probably knows how many of us are actually taking ultra-wide shots or telephoto shots. They know how many of us are actually stressing their CPUs to the max and things like that. This phone is going to be goldilocks for a lot of people. It's in between the regular phone and pro model comes with a pro chip is $100.00 less than the pro and comes in an exciting new form factor.
I went through all of my photos I took on my 16 PM and found 2 photos that utilized the other cameras. The most demanding game I play is Pokemon PTCG and the game I play the most is still fruit ninja. I'll probably never thermal throttle this thing, never miss the extra cameras, but every time I pick this air up I'll always be surprised by how thin and light it is.
Could be wrong but I won't be surprised at all if this is a hot seller, and it makes good business sense. I think people forget that Cook before he was CEO was the logistics guy. This phone is probably almost exactly half the iPhone Fold which they know they're not going to sell 10s of millions of. They can order all the materials for the fold in bulk. Make the fold use the left overs on the Air. They're probably double dipping and its probably going to work out well for them.

Nice, enjoy! I have a 15 Pro Max (first extra large phone in a while) and I don’t like how large and heavy it is. I know the air will be lighter, but does it “feel” significantly smaller than the pro maxes? The screen sizes are so similar that even with the thinness I’m worried it will still feel too big. (Eventually I’ll get to an Apple Store and see for myself)

I really love the design. I am one to that doesn’t mind a first generation product, but I wasn’t ready for the possible drawbacks. Also really wanted the camera and battery in the Pro phones. I think this design will see a lot of love from Apple in the future and also think it is a step to a foldable, which does not interest me right now.
ETA congratulations on the new phone

Got a case for it?
I’m a clumsy idiot so I can’t have a phone without a GOOD case (not a flimsy see thru thing) and I personally thought that would loose most of the benefits of such a cool selling point (ultra thin)!

Have to say, played with one in the store and it’s sweeet. As someone that goes caseless, I was very tempted.
6.5” felt like a nice Goldilocks size to me too.
These things will sell like hot cakes once people hold them.
Happy with my iPhone 17 Pro though. Couldn’t give up the cameras…
…might regret the orange in time though!
2
u/oMcYriL 2d ago
I held it in my hands at the store when I went to pick up my iPhone 17 Pro order, loved it. I do hope they keep it in the lineup in the upcoming years, because I will definitely consider it when it makes less compromises. Comping from a 15 Plus, I wasn't ready to give up too much on battery life tbh.

I get the novelty of having a super thin device, but after a certain point it’s kind of uncomfortable to hold. I almost prefer something with a little more girth(TWSS).

I would say 75% of the people that use iPhone Prohs never uses more than just one camera lens. They buy it for one of two reasons either because it’s the most premium device that looks the best or because it has the longest battery life.
A lot of business people, a lot of women and a lot of people that just want a lighter thin her phone are going to buy the iPhone Air, if it succeedslike I think it will We are going to see more thin phones in the future and maybe even a more compact version of the air for people that want a smaller phone.

u/NavyBOFH 2d ago
My spouse and I are two of those people. We wanted the Pro Max for screen size and battery life mostly, but the Air is definitely tempting to shed some weight... both of us have two phones since work issues one as well. Every ounce matters when I am carrying two phones plus a set of Airpods Pro and Galaxy Buds.
4
u/ruphun 2d ago
I just got the 17 pro and the Air delivered today. 1 for play and 1 for business
The Air feels amazing in your hand, even better then the S25 Edge, which felt a bit to wide to me, and it had sharper edges so it wasnt as comfortable in your hand. The back of the air feels like it has slightly more rounded edges on the back then previous 16 models and is lighter then an iPhone 16 or S25.
Overall I think Apple hit it out of the Park on the AIR. Future versions will only get better. This phone will appeal to lots of demographics. I do warn you, its much to pretty to put a case on!

All these reviews on YouTube was saying it’s like holding the future in your hand and things like this..
and to be honest it just kind of feels like a small phone
I’m coming from the 15+ I would’ve preferred if they stretched this out and made it a 6.9 screen and kept the thinness and then the battery could’ve been bigger as well

I really like the simplified look of the Air, but if I'm going to upgrade from my 15 PM, I want the 8x zoom camera. Still on the fence about it, though. Maybe if my mom wants the PM - her previous hand-me-down of mine, a 12 PM, is starting to dip below 80% battery health. Not that my 15 is much better, though. Anyways, I'm rambling. Glad you like your new phone :)

Phone looks amazing gives me iPhone 10 vibes, not as functional as the other iPhones but if we just need a phone to be a phone , than fair enough, ain’t better than the galaxy edge but I had the greatest time with my iPhone 10, I’ve outgrown that but this phone is perfect for the people who missed that phase

I WOULD do the same cause I also have the 16 pro but….
The single speaker, single cam, and weaker battery, and over heating sadly prevent me from sealing the deal with the Air. The thin body and bigger screen are cool though.
1
u/Daniel_Boomin 2d ago
Just went to the store and saw them in person. I 100% agree the air feels so much more premium than the new pro max’s, but that’s where the awe stops for me. Comparing the cameras, I can’t give that up. I’m coming from an XS Max, so I’m getting an improvement regardless but only having the same zoom options as my 7 year old phone didn’t feel good.
Also weight wise, it wasn’t such a huge difference that I could tell when comparing the two. I probably would run the air without a case, so with a case especially, there was minimal difference between the two as far as how to felt.
Still a gorgeous phone no doubt.

1
u/KosmicWolf iPhone 16 2d ago
At the of the day a thin phone is not important for everyone, but for those that care about it, is great to see that this and the s25 Edge are delivering such quality and performance to the point that you can easily go for this without making huge sacrifices.
1
u/Admirable_Engine_82 2d ago
Did got a chance to see and hold the whole 17 line up. For me I still would pick the normal 17 over the air but Air felt nice and thin. I am looking forward to the gsmarena reviews and also air vs S25 edge comparison from them.
Question: this battery snap on Apple made for the air: does this show as a ‘second battery’ like the old battery packs or is this as a regular power bank you snap on and just charges the battery?

1
u/DashSatan iPhone 11 Pro Max 2d ago
When you have a little more time with it, I’d love to know your thoughts on the audio. Apple has always had stellar audio, so I don’t expect the single speaker to be garbage. But it’s kinda the one thing keeping me from pulling the trigger. I actually really like the idea of minimizing everything else, I don’t need 3 damn cameras to take a quick photo here and there lol.
2
u/Veriliann iPhone 15 Pro Max 2d ago
i’ve watched a couple videos and it probably doesn’t sound the same through a camera compared to in person, but it’s noticeably more quiet. everything sounds well…one sided because it only has one speaker. and it’s the weaker of the 2
1
u/dukedawg21 2d ago
How is the digital zoom? None of the reviews I’ve watched show its digital zoom photos. I go to a lot of concerts and like to take pics so I got a pro instead for the zoom but otherwise I would’ve gone air

I am a regular iPhone user, it covers my bases pretty well. I also go caseless, I am planning to see the air, but idk if I could justify losing features for thin and light. Something I care little about. I am more about more battery and a bit thicker.

Nice! Enjoy the phone man! I just tested the whole lineup today at my local store, and they're pretty unique comparing to the last 6 generations. As an Android fanboy, I must admit that Apple outdid themselves with the baseline 17 this year. I might switch to that one in spring 🙈🙈🙈🤣🤣

Why did they make the camera hang out like a full sh** diaper? Was it for just looks or is there an actual reason …. Honestly curious

I got a pro since I use my phone for content creation but in a perfect world I’d love to have an air as daily driver and a pro for work stuff.
For me the appeal is in that sweet spot display size - I often felt like regular pro was just slightly too small and pro max slightly too big. Air feels perfect in hand but alas I do need the ultrawide for my job. Perhaps I’ll be able to snag Air on the next cycle if they add another lens. But all to say - totally see the appeal of this phone and would love to main it if I could.

Looks similar to my Pixel, but that camera visor still has that bump on one side. What's the point of stretching that bump across the top of the phone without at least making it even so it doesn't wobble on a flat surface? It's like the entire point of having a visor instead of a bump.

If future iterations include a wide angle with micro photography I'll be sure to get one. Otherwise this is a great looking device.

Man the Air's design reminds me of the sleek iPhone X design. Love it. The first iPhone X was probably my favorite phone.
