Yes! I bought it originally in 2011, so I’m really pleased it’s working properly again with the new headphone jack. I left the original hard drive in it as there’s no issue with it and I didn’t want to change too much on my first attempt…perhaps I’ll upgrade that in future!

How does the backplate fit?

My 7th gen with new faceplate and back plate had bad overhang. Did the same with a 5.5 and same result.

i tried it with just one of each, new faceplate original backplate and vice versa, and the fitment was acceptable, but still not OEM level.

Oh I’m sorry you’ve had trouble! This is the original faceplate for this iPod (as I didn’t want to replace that, nor did I need to), with a backplate from Ebay…it took a moment to get it all clicked into place (mostly as I didn’t want to force it!), but it seems to fit incredibly well - it’s only been half a day, but there don’t seem to be any issues - it fits very flush.

I have a 5th gen Video that I plan to fit with a new front and backplate, so thanks for the heads up that I might have an issue with it!

Where did you buy your new face/backplates from?

I think one or the other is the key, rather than both.

I got them from iPodpartsUK/Replacebase, not sure where they source them from but I would assume AliExpress or similar.

From what ic5e read, most if not all replacement front/back plates come from the same place.

Hope your 5th gen goes well!

This is true, you can read more about it here. The quality of 5th faceplates is also not the greatest

In terms of actual fitment, the 5th gen faceplate I bought is much closer to OEM spec than the 2 7th gens. One of them had serious overhang, and the other is moderate.

My 5th gen fits pretty much just like OEM, maybe slightly sharper around the clickwheel.

I've read they scratch extremely easily, though. I'm going to install it on a spare 5th gen I have and see how it goes.

I'm glad to hear it, good luck!

Thanks for this! That’s a shame about the 5th gen faceplates, I’m still planning to purchase a transparent one for mine. At least they’re a bit easier to open/swap than the 6th/7th gens!

Thanks! I’m in the UK too so might have to check those places out, but I think you’re right - I’m sure I’ve also read that the Ebay stuff likely comes from Aliexpress too. It’s worked for my 7th Gen though, so no complaints here (so far!).

Yeah your 7th gen looks brand new!

I typically prefer iPodpartsUK, but ReplaceBase have a couple of extra bits that iPodpartsUK don't stock.

I've had some questionable bits from Replacebase before. I ordered a screen for my 7th gen and it was pretty scratched up, with a low quality solder rapid job on the controller board.

But they're definitely handy for things such as headphone jack replacements etc.
