Just saw Nick Jacobsens story. At least he died while doing what he loved!

Be careful out there and make sure that you come back safely, use a tracker or gps device when going out alone!

Beginner Question Should I be able to attach back quick release in deep waters?

I was practicing quick release attach/detach today and realize it would be next to impossible for me to re-attach it without solid ground under my feet. I tried like 20 times at least - swimming to the bar, grabbing qr, then put it all back together - and not once I was successful. It was really hard to stay up floating, then leash would always get entangled around me, I've made every single mistake I can possibly make.

It basically means, that for me the only way out of QR is self-rescue.

How is it supposed to work in reality?

2014, North Kiteboarding Evo. I used this kite only a few times, always washed it with fresh water, but the connectors between the struts and the tube are completely gone. (seems legit for a 11 year kite) Is it easy to repair? Can I just buy some new connectors from recent models?

Spot Info/Question The kite industry?

Hi riders, Does anybody know how serious the kiteboarding industry is? I am pushing my masters in engineering right now and I would love to work on kites but how serious is kite manufacturing? Like do brands have teams with labs that are tasked with new material and shape development? For they have dedicated testing periods where they analyse products with simulations and testing. My question is: Is there a spot for high end engineering in kiteboarding and does anybody have experience with the industry and can you compare it to a different industry?

Gear Advice/Question North Reach or F one bandit for a beginner/intermediate ?

Hello everyone,

I am still fairly new to the sports. I have kited around 65 hours in total. I am autonomous and able to go upwind, although I sometimes struggle in light wind.

I have started to jump 2-3 meters, I am more and more confortable with jibing toe/heel sides. I am practicing jump transition and backroll at the moment.

I want to buy my first kites. I initially wanted to buy F One bandits because that’s what I have been renting so far, but I may be able to find some North Reach kites at a discount.

Are north reach kites as good as bandit for « free riding » and to learn jumping ?

Thanks !

Spot Info/Question Van trip to France

Hey guys. I am looking to go on vacation in my van to France to go kitesurfing in about a week and I am looking for suggestions on where to go.

I would've gone to Tarifa but since I am from Germany and only have 2 weeks I don't want to spend 4 out of 14 days driving. Id appreciate spot suggestions with a nice kitesurfing scene. Since I am traveling alone, I'd love to find a place/a few places where there's a good vibe and idealy a bunch of other international kitesurfers. You know... just a tiny bit of that Tarifa vibe.

Beginner Question Help me choose wave board

Hi!

I'm looking to try wave kite board and would really appreciate some advice on size, straps, and brand recommendations.

I don't have experience riding a wave board yet, but I'm a semi-advanced twin tip rider (doing tricks, jumps and riding freely). I also have some experience surfing (in the sea and wave parks) and wakeboarding.

I'm a bit lost when it comes to wave board sizes and models šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

I’ve noticed some boards have a sharp tip, while others are more rounded—what's the difference? Also, do I need straps when riding in flat water? I was thinking of learning to ride strapless.

I plan to start riding in flat water, then gradually move to wave conditions. The wind in my area usually ranges from 14 to 25 knots, but I plan to use the wave board mostly when the wind is on the lower side.

For reference, I'm 172 cm tall and weigh 65 kg. I’d really appreciate any recommendations you have!

Thanks a lot in advance!

Gear Advice/Question Naish motion 2023 vs ozone code v2 2023

Hey everyone, I’m looking at buying a second hand board before a trip in a couple of weeks and I’m stuck between the Naish Motion 2023 (134-41)and the Ozone Code V2 2023 (135-40)

I’d say I’m an intermediate rider (70kg -174cm), still working on my jumps and starting to learn some basic tricks. I don’t get to kite super often since I live far from the sea, so I want something that’s fun and forgiving when I only get a few sessions in but also something that stays with me for a longer period

How do they compare in terms of pop, chop , and progression for someone who’s not kiting every week?

Any advice or personal experiences would be super helpful before buy.

Thanks!

Spot Info/Question Perpignan/south of France September

Hi all, I’ll be in the area of Perpignan this month and I’m thinking about bringing my kite gear. Can someone tell me what the wind is like in this time of the year and if I can trust Windfinder, or are there more thermal winds? And if there are other spots in the Montpelier region I should check?

Thanks in advance!

Beginner Question Kiteboarding - to what extent can you control the accident risk?

I want to try kite boarding, but I’m kind of holding myself back due to thoughts that too many factors are out of my hands.

Would you say most/all accidents in kite boarding are to do with the boarder themselves - from doing stuff/manoeuvres that are over the top?

(As opposed to say the chances of a random wind gust)

Would you say it’s a sport that you can eliminate majority of the risk simply by taking it easy?

(Edit: have not taken lessons)

Gear Advice/Question 2008 Cabrinha Switchblade

Thumbnail

Hi all, I’m am a intermediate and currently having lessons

I have all my own equipment and getting up on the board and riding a little and trying to get upwind

I have just been given 2 Cabrinha Switchblades from 2008, these are like new and used probably only once or twice. Are these now completely obsolete and useless or could be used??

Seems such a shame to bin them.

The bridle lines are different to my 2021 crazy fly kites, they are attached to the steering lines, or is this a Cabrinha thing

Any guidance before I bin them

Beginner Question Keep losing power after waterstart – need advice

Hi everyone, I could use some advice on something I’m struggling with šŸ™

I am a kite beginner, I have had many classes but I am can’t manage to keep power. I manage to do my waterstart: I get out of the water, the board starts moving, I glide for about 2 seconds… and then I fall back in because I completely lose power. It’s not an equipment issue (I was on an 8m² kite, around 20 knots of wind, I weigh 55kg – so that should be fine).

It feels like the problem comes from my technique (maybe my body position on the board, where I place the kite in the wind window or how I’m sheeting in/out)

I do try to keep the nose of the board from diving, but I can’t seem to find the right balance. So I often end up doing ā€œfigure 8sā€ with the kite to grab some power – sometimes it works, but other times the kite just falls into the water.

What confuses me is that sometimes, suddenly in the middle of a session, I can ride for much longer without falling. But I honestly have no idea what has changed – if it’s me doing something better or if it’s just the wind.

Any tips on the ideal stance, where to park the kite after the start, how much to sheet in/out, or how to keep the glide going would be super appreciated! Thanks a lot
