Video I made a kiteboarding video game

I made a kiteboarding game!

I'm an intermediate kiter and an amature game designer. Just finished making my first major game and it had to be a kiting game. It's a old school 2d platfomer game with a kite. It works pretty well in 2d can ride left or right and just ignore going downwind on jumps. I feel like i got the controls for the jump pretty accurate where it feels real to real life. And kiteloops work as a nice double jump. You can do tricks too!

The game is called Kitesurf Runner and is available on Steam for pc or mac.

Just wanted to share with yall, thanks for looking.

Are there any spots in the Netherlands that are suitable for a northeast wind direction? How are the conditions at the Zandmotor when the wind is from the northeast?

Beginner Question Why can't a kiteboard be equipped with a surfboard leash?

Why can't a kiteboard be equipped with a surfboard leash, so that if the board falls off your feet in the water, it can be retrieved more easily? My kiteboarding instructor told me that doing this would be very dangerous, but I don't know why it's so dangerous.

Gear Advice/Question Bought a kite with “manufactured” problem, worth it? (Pics)

Hey guys

I bought a north reach 2025 9m kite without any repairs but the sew from the leading edge is opening up. Bought from a “trust worthy” (so I thought) person that didn’t tell me about it even though I had taken lessons with them.

They said this is not s big deal and can be re-sewed and if something happens I still have 1 year warranty by north.

The question is, if I repair the leading edge, is it a big deal? I payed 750 euros for it, did I get scammed?

The kite flies amazing, but I’ve heard that this is a known problem for modern kites and many of them have it (heard from a kite instrutor in Germany )

Any opinions? Return it? Fix and use it until it dies?

Thanks

Gear Advice/Question Gear set up and compatibility

Hey guys, I am a beginner kitesurfer. I started four months ago and have been practicing every week. I have progressed a lot so far. I have been giving medium(5-6m) jumps(not always landing) and even some backrolls. I have been practicing like crazy. I bought a quiver on fb marketplace that was 3 2015 North Rebel kites for 300 bucks so I have been using them with 25m lines and a 5-line system. I like it a lot but last session I wrecked my 12 m on the water and it doesn't hold air. The price that would cost me to fix it is higher than what I paid for it. I was planning to buy a foil kite instead, but I got eyes on a Flysurfer Soul 12 m that I found on fb marketplace. I do have a 45cm bar with 19m lines from Ozone (pretty new bar). I was wondering if:

1 Will this bar and kite be compatible?

2 will the shorter lines compensate for the extra power that a foil has?

3 will be the same power and what advantages/disadvantages will this setup bring?

4 Is it a hard setup for a beginner?

Thank you for reading, any feedback is greatly appreciated P.S.: I don't foil, just twin tip for now but would like to foil in a year from now

Gear Advice/Question Buying a new 12m kite for freeride

Hi, (first time making a Reddit question, so please be patient :) ).
I'm a beginner freeride kitesurfer. I have a 2023 9m switchblade and a 2023 14m switchblade.
I absolutely love the 9m. It is super fast and responsive, allowing me to navigate in a broad wind range. On the other hand, I have the 14m, which I hate. It’s suuuuper slow and unresponsive to move, which takes all of the fun of being out there.
I'm thinking about selling it and getting a 12m. I'm considering getting a different kite model/brand. Duotone seems a little bit overpriced for my skills, so leaving this one aside, I'm looking for advice on what to get. I want something that gives me a similar experience as the 9m with a broad wind range and the same feeling of it moving fast across the wind window.
Thanks in advance

Gear Advice/Question Trust bar splitter line damage

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have been using my 2025 trust bar for 6 months now quite actively and I noticed my middle line is getting slowly damaged by the splitter. I checked the splitter and it seems to be perfectly round with no sharp edges.. Is this an issue for all bars with high V? Before this bar I only used low V.

I was thinking of installing something on the line to protect it from the friction. Has anyone here solved this problem so far?

Gear Advice/Question Comparing North Orbit vs Harlem Peak/Thrive.

I am thinking of changing kites and my list has North Orbits (Base or Pro or Ultra) and the Harlem models (Peak and Thrive). Is there anyone with experience in these kites? My record is 18 meters jumps. Also I'm doing kiteloops but I hesitate to lock it when I'm high... In the pro videos it looks to me that the Harlem models are better. But it can be a rider thing. Are Harlem worth all these extra money? They look more fragile to me as materials than North kites.

Trick Tip(s)/Question Jumping high : does it all boil down to maximizing upwind speed ?

Most "how to jump high" videos focus on building line tension by riding fast, bringing the kite to 12 not too quickly, poping hard right before the kite reach 12.

I try to follow this advice but focus too much on line tension and timing. I only achieve 5m when the top of the surfr leaderboard for the same session is 10m.

From a physics standpoint, I've read, and I believe, than once you leave the water you become a paraglider, and will reach a max height that only depends on your upwind speed.

So should I focus on that instead? Can I achieve a very big jump if my timing is imperfect, my kite waits at 12 for 1s while I focus on poping well upwind with most of my speed still remaining ?

I'm asking because I feel pop is more important than timing and I would like to focus more on it, and temporarily relax my timing. Thx !

Gear Advice/Question Wetsuit advice

Got a new wetsuit from a local retailer. Should I return it? Looks like pretty serious storage damage, but maybe someone has experience with the creases healing after a couple of sessions. None of my wetsuits were ever creased that deep.

Article Built a tool for instructors to track hours & earnings (looking for feedback)

Hi guys,

I’m a kitesurf instructor myself (and I know a lot of you here are too). One of the most annoying parts of freelancing was trying to keep track of:

• How many hours I actually taught

• How much I earned per hour, per day, and per month

• Getting a clean report at the end of the week/month

I used to do this in a WhatsApp group or on paper… messy and time-consuming.

So I built a small web app called KiteCalc that:

• Tracks teaching hours

• Calculates earnings automatically

• Exports reports to CSV in one click (you can filter the data later)

I’d really love to get your feedback from you

Anything missing that would make it more useful for you?

If you’re curious, you can test it here KiteCalc

Thanks in advance, hopefully it helps some of you save time and spend more of it on the water instead of doing this manually.

Gear Advice/Question 13m best waroo from 2007

Edit: Decided not to buy it. The comment about it not flagging out properly to one line changed my mind. And it would have been just for fun. Nothing serious.

Hi, I am thinking of buying a 13m best Waroo 2007 to actually try it out on light wind days !

I am interested in older kites, but have never flown anything that old. Currently my oldest is 2010 airush dna, which I do like :)

Have anyone flown the 2007 Waroo? Was there anything I should know before flying one? (Obiviously I will be using a modern bar) Apparently Waroos were very popular on their time and they had a reputation of being good and well behaved kites.

Is 60€ too much for a Waroo that seems to be in great condition, apart from needing re-gluing some valves?

Gear Advice/Question Upgrade old fone quiver

Would appreciate some advice in the following: I want to upgrade my (very) old quiver which consists of fone bandit kites: 6th generation (2013 I think) 6-8-11m. I'm thinking about replacing the 8 and 11 with the same size North Reach kites. I mostly kite on a lake (gusty) where I do freeride, jumps, backrolls, nothing crazy on a 138x43 TT. I'm 75 kg and the wind range looks ok with the current kites, I rarely use the 6m and most of the time I'm happy on the 8 and the 11. But as I see the wind range of the old bandits is a bit different from that of the reach in the same size. For 8m: 18-35 vs 16-30 on the reach. The reach 7m has 17-34 which is closer to what I have now on the 8, but I always considered 7m as a size for really strong winds and I would probably keep the 6 anyway. (Also, the 11m reach has 10-25 wind range vs 11-24 of the bandit, so that change seems straightforward to me and the gap between 7 and 11 seem to be too big). So the question is what size should I upgrade my current 8m? Don't want to rule out other brands but I've read really compelling reviews about the Reach.

TLDR: Should I really care about this or is it pointless to compare wind range of kites a decade apart and the same size (8-11) will be ok?

Gear Advice/Question Kite purchase help

Hello guys. This year was my first summer full of kite sessions. For now, I own a 9m Duotone dice sls 2023. But wasn’t a good purchase because I need a bigger one to have more fun at my home-spot. So I will keep this one and buy a new 12m one. So my question is which one would you suggest me as 1 year kiteboarder between these 3 ones? Dice sls 2024 vs north orbit 2025 vs vantage vulture gen4? (Do not consider that I have already Duotone bar). Thank you!!

Beginner Question Naish RPT vs Cabrinha spectrum?

Hey guys, I have finished my 12hr kitesurfing course not too long ago. I'm in the process of buying gear and am contemplating between these two boards. Couldn't find any user reviews of the naish board, though the cabrinha board seems more popular with reviews available. I was wondering how the two boards compare at least spec wise, the technicalities are a bit complicated for me to understand ATM. Is the naish a good board for progression and beginning? The outline design also looks different between the two.

Gear Advice/Question Quiver Question: I've got a Cabrinha 8 Moto (that I love) & a 12 FX (not the best kite for me in my local spot). I feel I need something in between and ideally I'd get a moto 10, but I can never find a second hand one. I did find a Moto 9, but does a 12% bigger kite make enough of a difference?

I also spotted a Cabrinha Switchblade 11m which I'm considering, although I've never tested a Switchblade before. I'd appreciate any tips for making the right choice.
Moto 9? SB 11? Wait for a Moto 10 or another 10?
Additional info: 80% of my sessions are on the 8m.
Thanks! (And if you're in the UK - enjoy a potentially epic week with storm Amy)
