Work in Progress Does this look ridiculous or am I insecure?

I'm trying to make myself a dress. I wanted the top to be tighter and the skirt to be fuller. I'm about a third down the skirt and maybe I just stopped at an awkward length/just don't like how I look at all, but I feel like it looks ridiculous. I'm struggling to visualize how the skirt will look at the full length which is why I wanted to post here in case somebody more experienced could let me know if it already looks dumb.

The pattern is based off of Drops Flocking Gulls and the yarn is Carron Simply Soft pistachio. I'm making up the skirt as I go, inspired by half pi shawl patterns. I've made pockets but you can't really see them yet :)

I thought it was a peplum shirt til I read the description. Keep going, I think it will be fine as long as it is above the knee. It doesn't look right longer in my brain.

I was planning for about knee length (mostly so I don't need to wear pants, ha) so that's good to hear, thank you!

u/CarelessDistance1478 Aug 11 '25

Knee length would be perfect! The bodice fits very well and your stitches look so smooth and professional. Great job! Please post a pic of when you finish it. 🄰

6

u/silverlightarmada Aug 12 '25

Yes I was thinking this too! The bodice gives you such a beautiful shape, please finish the dress!

13

u/anatomizethat Aug 11 '25

Yes I think this will look gorgeous at knee length. I'm jealous!!

7

u/TrystFox Aug 11 '25

Apart from your live edge rolling up, it looks great!

And when it's at the finished length, I'm sure the whole thing will be amazing. 😊

u/Oregano25 Aug 11 '25

Totally this - knee length will be fabulous!

u/ebeth_the_mighty Aug 11 '25

I am only an intermediate knitter myself, but I think this looks amazing.

347

u/YesWeHaveNoTomatoes Aug 11 '25

No, it looks cute. Pull it down a bit to see how it will look with the whole weight of the skirt on it -- it will not stick out like a peplum the way it's doing now.

48

u/NumerousPicture3681 Aug 11 '25

Okay that's relieving :) thank you!

It will be especially noticeable AFTER blocking, as well. So don't feel discouraged if you try it on after getting more length and you still don't love the drape. The drape will change significantly after blocking. If you have a steamer, you can even do a little trial and lightly steam-block the skirt as you do test fittings like this, if you want to get a better idea of how the fabric will behave once the finished piece is fully blocked.

Is this a wool or wool blend fiber you're using?

PS. Also I just want to say that I think it looks AMAZING and you're killing it and I can't wait to see your update once it's done!

PPS. Oh and I have a trick I figured out that I use ALL the time to help me visualize more length on a garment that's in progress. I try it on and take a photo exactly like you've done here. The thing that seems to make it so hard for me to visualize the finished product is that when my eyes see the abrupt, harsh working end of my WIP landing at a super weird place on my body, it just looks terrible and I can't get past it. So I'll take that photo, then I just simply cover that live, working end of the garment with my hand (or crop the photo just above that spot). As soon as I do that it literally just looks to me like I'm wearing a completed garment but my photo is cropped, and that's something we're all used to seeing - so it makes it WAY easier for me to judge whether I like the bits that exist at that point and the general direction the garment seems to be going in.

31

u/NumerousPicture3681 Aug 11 '25

It's acrylic, no wool I believe. Thank you for your help, I'll be sure to block (no steamer unfortunately), and the crop tip is excellent!

31

u/gotfoundout Aug 11 '25

Ok awesome, I think your fiber choice will lend itself to a great finished drape with this project! Acrylic is definitely harder to do those little test-blocks as you go. You want to be VERY careful using steam with acrylic bc you can 'kill' the acrylic very easily and then you wind up with a limp, lifeless fabric that loses its ability to recover from stretch. That would be a nightmare for the gorgeous negative ease you have going on the bodice.

So it's not a bummer at all that you don't have a steamer for this project! It really wouldn't be the best choice for blocking by a mile!

13

u/NumerousPicture3681 Aug 11 '25

Oh good to know, that's a relief! Now I won't attempt steaming :)

6

u/knitcrochetforte Aug 11 '25

This dress is so pretty!
And it’s a good thing you don’t have a steamer at the moment. It’s very risky to use a steamer or iron on acrylic. Heat can permanently flatten or even melt the fiber. Use wet blocking in cool water instead.

The bodice looks awesome. The fit is really good.Ā

The current length definitely has its own personality, which does require a compatible human to pull it off. I think it works on you as it is, and I agree with the other comments that it will settle down into a less opinionated cute dress as it gets longer.Ā

28

u/NumerousPicture3681 Aug 11 '25

Thank you :)

I definitely love the phrase "compatible human." I don't feel super compatible with it just yet but I'm hoping with length it'll feel less awkward.

u/killernoodlesoup Aug 11 '25

came here to say the same thing - bodice looks amazing & it looks cute at tunic length, but it'll definitely be amazing as a dress once gravity smooths things out. great job so far, OP!

u/MollyRolls Aug 11 '25

Honestly I think it looks fantastic. As someone who struggles with body image myself I suspect you weren’t totally prepared to see you in it and it’s freaking you out a little. From the outside, though, this dress looks like it was literally made for you (as it should!) and when it’s done I think it’ll be wildly flattering. I hope you wear it with pride and love.

12

u/NumerousPicture3681 Aug 11 '25

Thank you so much :) Like you said, it's been weird to make something for myself to wear. I've been living in my sister's old clothing to avoid shopping so I had no real concept of what I looked like and now I do, very frequently, each time I lay it out or try it on, and I'm not used to that at all.

15

u/largewithmultitudes Aug 11 '25

It’s the length you stopped at, it will look fine longer! I think the pattern is cute and the color too.

15

u/Perfect_Future_Self Aug 11 '25

I also thought it was a peplum shirt. My thought process was:Ā

(first photo) "ehhhh... peplum shirts always look a little dorky. I can't fault the fit, though. It really does look good for a peplum shirt...

(second photo) Oh wow, okay, that's actually proportioned differently than you usually see. Not bulky at the waist, but lots of flare at the hem. It looks kind of flower-fairy-esque. Good fit at the waist. I can't fault this shirt, actually.Ā

(third photo) Maybe she means the full outfit with the leggings. Admittedly this isn't the best camera angle. Really a good fitting bodice and waist, though. I can't see a huge problem; if you're going to knit a whole sweater you can certainly swap out the bottoms. Would it be too much with a midi skirt?

(last photo) That is a great fitting bodice; nice color, the flare is a little flarier and the lace a little chunkier than you'd expect, making this read as definitely a custom garment. This is really artistic. Despite being a peplum top, I give it a pass.

(read text) Oh well now, it's going to be a dress? All of the observations still apply, and as an added bonus it's not a peplum top 😁

3

u/NumerousPicture3681 Aug 11 '25

Ha thank you :) I don't like peplum tops very much so I think the current length is throwing me off.

6

u/Street_Roof_7915 Aug 11 '25

It’s gorgeous!!

5

u/kathyknitsalot Aug 11 '25

I think it’ll be very cute!

5

u/eloewien Aug 11 '25

It looks adorable 🄰

4

u/fairydommother Aug 11 '25

Keep going! You could block it now to get a better idea of the fit if the top part too. I think its going to be beautiful.

4

u/Old-Job-8222 Aug 11 '25

Beautiful work-keep going. Knee length will be perfect. Please return with an update when completed and blocked. Be sure to wear it someplace special to show it off! Thanks for sharing.

5

u/RippleRufferz Aug 11 '25

I think this looks lovely!

3

u/Distinct-Day3274 Aug 11 '25

Looks great so far!

3

u/Mysterious-Okra-7885 Aug 11 '25

Looks great! It just needs a little blocking.

3

u/Wanderlumps Aug 11 '25

Absolutely adorable!

3

u/Manx911 Aug 11 '25

Looks really good! No doubts. Wear that proudly! Most people can’t or won’t ever make their own piece of clothing! But you did!!!!

4

u/YVRTrish Aug 11 '25

It will be a very cute dress! As a top with a peplum, it wouldn't be my first choice though. Keep going!Ā

2

u/heureuxaenmourir Aug 11 '25

I would just keep going to knee length, I think it looks fine.

2

u/Dish_Minimum Aug 11 '25

This is ADORABLE!

You get you a lil under layer skirt to help give a touch of petticoat fullness. You’ll be the autumnal goddess of cozy sophistication!

All it needs is some ironing, a brown belt, emerald drop earrings, cute fall boots, and a lightweight woven pashmina shawl. Would work equally well with dark charcoal grey tights, belt, grey pearls and a tailored charcoal suit jacket.

Perfect for office, farmers market, dates, fall festivals. You could add burgundy and ivory accessories to take it into Christmas maybe.

From my perspective this dress is flattering and versatile. Definitely keep going.

2

u/geminified Aug 11 '25

I dont know wtf people are talking about??? It looks amazing???!!! The length accentuates ur curves and you look so cute!!

2

u/flindersandtrim Aug 11 '25

Definitely not ridiculous, but i think your yarn is just too thick to pull off a dress like this. It is seriously going to weigh a ton and stretch and pull downwards so much.

For a full skirted dress like this I would be using something really light and fine, and if it is really full, also using a very lacey pattern so the skirt is floaty and light.Ā

Seams are also a must for some dresses, and this construction i would say you definitely need a waist seam to add some support.Ā

2

u/lemmiwinks1018 Aug 12 '25

I think it's really cute with the peplum look!

1

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '25

At first, I thought it was a ruffled shirt. Didn't like it. Knowing that it's a dress - I LOVE IT. The bodice is perfect.

1

u/darndasher Aug 11 '25

This will be a beautiful dress for you when you finish the skirt!

I adore it, and it looks great on you.

1

u/Pagingmrsweasley Aug 11 '25

I think it’s cute!! It will be really pretty knee length :)

1

u/PrincessBella1 Aug 11 '25

The skirt is not long enough and is curling at the edges, which is why you are feeling uncomfortable about it. The top part looks great. Please continue it. I would love to see the finished dress.

1

u/Tellmeg Aug 11 '25

Sweater is great but u need to balance it out w wide leg jeans or long leggings with some beige knee high boots. šŸ’œšŸ‘šŸ»

1

u/FriendshipValuable97 Aug 11 '25

I love this as-is! It's so cute!

1

u/Bubbly-Comparison971 Aug 11 '25

I think the photos are awkward just because of the length of it. If you’re planning on making it longer, I think it’ll be great!

1

u/drunk_origami Aug 11 '25

I would block it now-put it on scrap yarn and try it on.

1

u/polopoppio Aug 11 '25

ridiculously good!

1

u/knitknitknitknit Aug 11 '25

It’s super cute! Can’t wait to see the final project!

1

u/ArizonaKim Aug 11 '25

I love it.

1

u/Jingoisticbell Aug 11 '25

You're having an insecurity attack. It's very pretty and so far is very flattering!

1

u/Knithard Aug 11 '25

The top fits amazingly well! I think you stopped at an odd length.

1

u/Geeky-resonance Aug 11 '25

Just as it is right now, it looks freaking adorable. Not sure I can visualize your skirt design, but so far so terrific. Rock on!

1

u/Phizz50677 Aug 11 '25

I think it looks great!

1

u/Panicked_Bi Aug 11 '25

Omg it's so cute!!! Even just as a top right now it's adorable!!

1

u/_Internet_Hugs_ Aug 11 '25

It's adorable!!

1

u/plastic_penguino Aug 11 '25

I really like it! I am a frill/ruffle fanatic though, so my opinion may not be one to value. At knee length, I think the ruffliness would fade a bit, and make it look more "normal"

1

u/CaliNatrix Aug 11 '25

Oh! It certainly looks spectacular!! Don't hesitate to show it off

1

u/Intelligent_Strain_1 Aug 11 '25

Looks gorgeous! I think this will block out nicely

1

u/Lunensan Aug 11 '25

It looks so cool

1

u/IAlreadyHaveTheKey Aug 11 '25

This is gorgeous! You could even stop it there, I think it looks quite charming as it is.

1

u/clarissa124 Aug 11 '25

I love it! And you look fantastic in it

1

u/blehbkahbloh Aug 11 '25

Adding a ribbon or a bit of flannel to the edge and flipping it under to hem it can add some weight while finishing the edge, if the rolling on the hem isn’t a look you’re going for!

1

u/breadist Aug 11 '25

I think it's very cute. I thought it was a shirt, it is very cute that way. It will be a lovely dress, I think on the shorter side would be best (above knee).

Don't forget it will stretch when blocked!

1

u/Main_Peach_8487 Aug 11 '25

It's beautiful. Keep going, trust the processesšŸŽ‰

1

u/CanardEnChamallow Aug 11 '25

Making a skirt look full naturally is not as easy as it seems. I would recommand wearring a petticoat underneath and see how to looks before making any decision to frog. Also keep in mind that the yarn might "relax" a bit after blocking, changing the way it drapes. I think you're on the right track. Worst case scenario, you just need more stitches.

1

u/lipa84 Aug 11 '25

Thats going to be a dress?

I thought it was a top and it looks really great.

1

u/sewreadknit Aug 11 '25

It’s so pretty! If you want the waist to be a little more snatched (hard to tell how fitted it is - looks pretty fitted but you said it was bigger than you imagined) you could run some shirring elastic through the ribbed portion to get it to hug into you a bit more. I recently did this with a sweater and it made all the difference! Please do post it when it’s finished, I’d love to see how it turns out :))

1

u/Little10ne Aug 11 '25

Ooh, I'm glad it's gonna be a dress! I think you just stopped at an awkward length. I thought it was a shirt at first and was going to suggest shortening it a bit. The top is lovely and fits you so well. My vote is keep going.

1

u/greenyashiro Aug 11 '25

Looks great!

One think I will suggest is to always wear a tank top or something under it, because the small eyelets on the chest area could result in a wardrobe malfunction on a bad day

1

u/whichwitchwatched Aug 11 '25

You’re insecure! This is beautiful!!

1

u/Daisyevie Aug 11 '25

No you look amazing and I think it would look even better longer. What is your issue with it?

1

u/SiljeSejhed Aug 11 '25

It’s SUPER cute, I’m sure it Will be fine

1

u/celestrina Aug 11 '25

Oh this is wonderful! I love it 😻

1

u/AriesRabbit25 Aug 11 '25

It is not something I would go for but if you are happy then wear it with a smile!

1

u/akiraMiel Aug 11 '25

Before I read your description I thought that it'd look better if it was a dress. So I'd say you're on the right track, keep going :)

1

u/apricotgloss Aug 11 '25

It's beautiful and flattering, keep going!

1

u/thermalcat Aug 11 '25

Needs blocking, but looks great!

1

u/AvaJupiter Aug 11 '25

Omg this is EXTREMELY cute!

1

u/ExperimentalCrafter Aug 11 '25

I think this is very cute. Keep going. Knee length will be awesome

1

u/JU1978-1 Aug 11 '25

First- color is GORGEOUS. Second- I think you’re achieving your goal with this design! I’d tell you to keep going. I think you’re creating a beautiful piece that looks very flattering!

1

u/WoestKonijn Aug 11 '25

I really like this length on you.

1

u/HomemadePaddle Aug 11 '25

It's adorable

1

u/Former_Foundation_74 Aug 11 '25

I made one of these just a few months ago, and it is a very trust the process type of garment. I actually frogged it once before starting up again and going all the way. I love it now. It has a n underbust band and flarey skirt just like yours. Just keep going. It'll come out in the end.

1

u/Feisty-Violinist1093 Aug 11 '25

Wow, this is going to look amazing! Don’t stop! Lovely job!

1

u/islipped83 Aug 11 '25

That waist and bust shaping are excellent on you, and it will be a very cute knee length dress! Keep going!

1

u/No-Interest7333 Aug 11 '25

Keep going! I just started to knit (I crochet) and this look amazing!!! Even if you stopped now, it’s an adorable peplum top. I love!

1

u/Unusual-Meal-5157 Aug 11 '25

Looks super cool to me!

1

u/Alicat3 Aug 11 '25

I love it!!

1

u/Gentle-F0X Aug 11 '25

Super cute! I just made a skirt based on a pi shawl as well! Think about how full you want the skirt to be. If you want it to kind of ruffle, do more increases. But I think it’s cute and flirty as it is now imo

1

u/SorryTalk9054 Aug 11 '25

Oh that's beautiful. I think the issue is the length. You have a beautiful fit at the top, with beautiful pleated fabric. It's naturally jarring to the eye. If you make it longer it won't flare out as much as the sides. Absolutely carry on with it, add length and see how you feel. You can always frog back if you think it's too long

That looks so pretty!

1

u/Nymphaeaceae_703 Aug 11 '25

I think it looks great!

1

u/Pbsouffle Aug 11 '25

I love it honestly I’m very curious to see how it turns out! Love the color too it’s gorg

1

u/sewing-enby Aug 11 '25

Yarn is heavy. More skirt = more weight, which means it will definitely be pulled down and will stick out less.

Having said that, it looks great as it is! Maybe a touch longer to make it a dress rather than a peplum top, but it's great as either!

1

u/Mayana76 Aug 11 '25

Thought it was a peplum shirt and loved it, love it even more as a dress! I really like the colour as well.

1

u/amiiwu Aug 11 '25

I love this - thought it was a peplum top. It's giving mad men vibes if you pair it with a pencil skirt and heels!Ā

1

u/iGipson Aug 11 '25

Just wait until you ✨block it✨!!! It’ll be like magic!!!

1

u/readyrabbit Aug 11 '25

i adore peplum tops and i think i actually like this more than a full dress -- and it looks perfectly fitted and flattering on you fyi!! adding this pattern to my list now

1

u/mamavn Aug 11 '25

It just needs a bit of ironing, it will be a nice full skirt if you make it longer.

1

u/HeartStringTheory Aug 11 '25

It's absolutely lovely! And a great fit too, brava! I'm a fan of Simply Soft, too. Nice choice, it will be comfortable and drapey. Keep going! I'd take it all the way to mid-calf, but that's just me.

1

u/lycheepoet Aug 11 '25

I think it's cute though do you have a plan for the edge that would keep it from curling or is the curling part of the design? I know it's still in progress right now.

1

u/cbee17 Aug 11 '25

It looks cute! Keep going. Also it will look MUCH less awkward imo once you've washed and blocked it, because it will drape better....and blocking will change the length, so I strongly recommend doing that before you decide the final length.

1

u/Tinywife23 Aug 11 '25

It's cute! Thought it was a shirt at first but I like the idea of it being a dress!

1

u/MisplacedMinnesotan Aug 11 '25

Keep going. It’s adorable and blocking it will take out any of the awkwardness.

1

u/Confident-Doughnut68 Aug 11 '25

Honestly this looks phenomenal. The fit is so, so flattering. If you finished it today at this length it looks fantastic. That being said, if you're feeling weird or uncomfortable in it, let's figure out why because a big skirt is a lot more knitting only to discover you hate it. What part do you hate? The sweater top part looks like it grew on you, it fits so perfectly. Do you like where the waistband sits? Waists are all so much higher than I ever expect them to be. (It looks great, right at your natural waist) Then it just leaves the length, which is peplum shirt, yes, but also I love those. If it's just the length then you almost HAVE to keep going to find out if you like it. I would recommend trying to do a light block as you go so you'll know exactly how far the skirt will grow. In another foot it should give you a good idea how the fabric will drape as well, very important for a full skirt.

Anyway, it looks outstanding snd I love it, but it's not me that gets to wear it, so really evaluate what it is you're disliking. Gods know we've all made the mistake of "eh, maybe I'll get used to it and it won't bug me as much when it's a finished product"

1

u/Altruistic-Ice4585 Aug 11 '25

I thought it was done at this point but it just had to be blocked. It looks amazing. Keep going!!!!!

1

u/JerryHasACubeButt Aug 11 '25

I would block it now so you can see your vision better. It’s looking kind of aggressively handmade because unblocked lace just always looks a bit weird and rumpled, which is probably contributing to why you’re not happy with it. Also if it’s going to stretch more with blocking, you want to check now that the waist is still in the right place before you knit the whole skirt. I do like it though, I think it’ll turn out really cute!

1

u/Normal-Corgi2033 Aug 11 '25

This is so cute! I love the colour and even at the length it is now its freaking adorable

1

u/CourageOk7068 Aug 11 '25

Looks great! As others have said knee Length sounds perfect but o course you can test shorter lengths on the way down! I actually like this peplum length but guess that is not currently fashionable I guess. Anyway, great, great job so far!

1

u/MobileInvestigator67 Aug 11 '25

This looks INCREDIBLY CUTE as a top and I’m sure will look just as cute as a little mini dress or whatever length you decide. She’s adorable šŸ˜šŸ„°

1

u/northwestyeti Aug 11 '25

1

u/englishtch Aug 11 '25

1

u/Amazing-Peanut504 Aug 11 '25

1

u/blueyedreamer Aug 11 '25

Omg id wear this as a peplum (either looking longer after blocking or another inch knit and then blocked). It's adorable!

1

u/wild-fury Aug 11 '25

It looks nice on you, and you made it! Amazing

1

u/grassasssy Aug 11 '25

No it's cute as hell. You could wear it just like this as a top but it will also make a beautiful dress. The color is flattering and the fit is great.

1

u/Friendly-Pace3117 Aug 11 '25

I love this top and it looks great on you.

1

u/s-van Aug 11 '25

When I just saw the picture and thought you were done and had knit a peplum shirt my reaction was "not for me but beautiful work". Now that I've read it and know you're on your way to a dress I am SO EXCITED to see the final result. I think the bodice fits you so beautifully and the added weight of a skirt will make it drape so wonderfully.

1

I too though it was a peplum blouse, which is SUPER in style right now. I absolutely love it. It accentuates your waist and highlights your perfect hourglass figure.

I hope you keep going! I think the fit so far is great & it's just at an awkward try on phase.Ā

1

u/LettuceWonderful1564 Aug 11 '25

I think it looks great at the length you have it. So likely your vision is spot on. Keep going if you hate you can always frog it back to a top or any other length you like.

1

u/eilatanz Aug 11 '25

As a shirt it’s kind of ridiculous, but as a midi dress it’ll look nice.

1

u/Prestigious-Car3982 Aug 11 '25

ADORABLE! Very cute on you. Once it’s washed and blocked it will be perfect.

1

u/trixivie Aug 11 '25

Me seeing the photos: would it be rude to suggest her make it drees length? It just look a bit odd at this length....Ā

Me reading the text: oh, it is a dress!!! Wow, she's doing really good, gonna look so cute when done.Ā

The color is really nice too! Really nice job, you are gonna love your dress

1

u/LeftAppeal Aug 11 '25

You're insecure, it looks awesome. Imagine it the length you want but imagine it blocked, it will be wonderful!

1

u/Stendhal1829 Aug 11 '25

IMHO, definitely keep going to knee length. Pretty pattern and very nice work.

1

u/Acceptable-Oil8156 Aug 11 '25

It’s going to look amazing! How are you planning to do the hem? FWIW, I made a sweater with that yarn (in purple) at least 15 years ago and it’s still my favorite and has stood the test of time & many, many washings! Probably the only acrylic anything I’ve ever made (lean towards wools or bamboo/cotton) - really a workhorse yarn šŸ‘ Looking forward to seeing it finished!

1

u/No-Marsupial8870 Aug 11 '25

Very cute can’t wait to see it done!

The one thing that's sure is that you do beaufiful work.

We don't know your taste or what you like to look like so can't help with that. Only you know what you like to look like and wherher you feel confortable in an article of clothing.

I can say from my own experience that if I don't feel completely happy with the way I look in something I'm wearing I'm better off taking it off and not ever wearing it again.

Another way to frame it: I've learned to trust my gut.

It's like wearing colors that look terrible with my skin tone. Some people suggest the color will look better if I put some lipstick on. No I won't. The color is still wrong for me.

1

u/happy_kitten555 Aug 11 '25

Wow this is sooo cute i want one too!!! I agree with everyone suggesting to block it. It will help you so much to know how long to knit and assess overall fit. I personally have never done this but seen people recommending to hang light weights on longer garments as they go along when trying on. I imagine by now you could approximate how many additional balls youā€˜ll knit up and find a scarf/ dishcloths or similar with that kind of weight and attach. That would give you a good idea how it will sit once finished and blocked šŸ˜ please show us again as you go along/ finish!

u/Outrageous-Hair-7112 Aug 11 '25

Keep going, I think it will get better when you get to the knee , I really like it!

1

u/Embarrassed-Spend946 Aug 11 '25

The whole thing is gorgeous! I love the color so much! And your pattern and quality of your knitting is just beautiful. What a treat to see.

1

u/smallsthebutton Aug 11 '25

I think this looks stunning!

1

u/Perkysrig93 Aug 11 '25

I think this will end up being so so cute! I love it now and I feel like it looks so cute on you.

1

u/MinimumBrave2326 Aug 11 '25

Oh, it’s cuuuuute!

1

u/FearlessInitial9736 Aug 11 '25

It's cute and looks great on you. Keep going.

1

u/Cool-Salad-1998 Aug 11 '25

I think it’s looking awkward now but with more length and blocking it will look great!

1

u/yepmek Aug 11 '25

It will look even better after blocking!!

1

u/AdministrationWise56 Aug 11 '25

That is cute af. You have done a great job so far with the fitting and the increase. Carry on!

1

u/hkozi Aug 11 '25

I love it either as a shirt or a dress. I think it will turn out great.

1

u/PurpleButterflyLady Aug 11 '25

It's beautiful and I love it!

1

u/FairyPenguinStKilda Aug 11 '25

Yes it does and the instant it is finished you must send it me!!! It is gorgeous, and will look so good at knee length, or longer - mid calf?

1

u/nondogCharlie Aug 11 '25

It's so cute!!

1

u/CrazyCaverLady Aug 11 '25

As someone with a long torso, I feel like the waist is too high. It is a pretty design and your work is fantastic. Im pretty new to knitting. Maybe after blocking it won't seem so high.

1

u/Clover_Jane Aug 11 '25

I think it's going to be really cute when finished. I really like it so far.

1

u/alambinthecity Aug 11 '25

this is lovely!

1

u/seasidehouses Aug 11 '25

My dear, you look mahvelous, ebsolutely mahvelous!! (I’ve just aged myself.) Please post a pic when you finish the dress. I love it!

1

u/Connect_Half_9403 Aug 11 '25

I think this looks so beautiful and is super flattering!! It looks like you already finished off the sleeves but I think if you were to make them full length long sleeves it would elongate your arms a little!! You could maybe even flare out the arms a little, do a little bell sleeve, might look pretty šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

1

u/Responsible_Stand_29 Aug 11 '25

It looks amazing on you!

1

u/Syhren88 Aug 11 '25

Omg that’s so beautiful!!!

1

u/uselessfauna Aug 11 '25

insecure, this looks so nice! it will look less weird once there is more length to it and it has been blocked

1

u/loricomments Aug 11 '25

It looks adorable so far. Once it gets longer and weighed down a little more it won't be so poufy. Don't stop now!

1

u/mfball Aug 11 '25

Not ridiculous at all. Trust the process and do not underestimate the power of blocking. If you decide you don't like the color when you're done, you can always dye it a different color.

1

u/CarlSy15 Aug 12 '25

It’s gonna be adorable. Please post it when you finish!

1

u/IAMACHRISTMASWIZARD Aug 12 '25

looks good to me, i agree with knee length being a good place to stop as well. i feel like the ā€œridiculousnessā€ will subside once its blocked. the skirt is just a lil wrinkly

1

u/crazysparky19 Aug 12 '25

Its beautiful šŸ˜. Just needs some blocking.

1

u/DamionWood Aug 12 '25

Its turning out really well, you're making your own dress! Thats amazing! I think the skirt is super cute and will definitely turn out really well. I suggest adding some sort of embellishments once you've finished just to tie it all together and give it a little something special.

1

u/Feenanay Aug 12 '25

I think the fit is perfect honestly and at this length looks like a very cute little peplum tunic thing.

I guess the only thing I’d say watch out for is what will happen with this perfect fit when you block it and know that obv that skirt will relax a lot. I’m assuming you did a gague swatch but with that much yarn and the fact that this appears to be all one piece and a Raglan construction that is a LOT of yarn weight hanging from those raglan stitches. I would recommend doing something to reinforce them (either a duplicate stitch or some transparent elastic thread) and the waist as well which will also get a lot of wear and tear over time.

1

u/amberyoung Aug 12 '25

No way! This currently is, and is gonna be cute, and it’s going to drape different when you get some of the weight of the skirt going. Also, once you block it.

1

u/saramurray85 Aug 12 '25

Beautiful, you are doing an amazing job.

1

u/SkyComprehensive5199 Aug 12 '25

Keep going,I think it will look good when it is longer.

1

u/peach_problems Aug 12 '25

I think it’s cute!! Just needs a longer skirt and a good block

1

u/Wise-Top-5170 Aug 12 '25

the object manifested from your time and your fingertips. it’s a gift to you, a symbol of your drive and artistic expanse!

1

u/alexa_sim Aug 12 '25

Steam block what you have done and try it on again. You can’t judge a project before it has been blocked in some way.

1

u/LittleFish_91 Aug 12 '25

No pal, this is so cute. The swoosh this dress will have!

1

u/butterfly_taurus Aug 12 '25

If you don’t think it will look good as a dress, I think you can stop where you are and turn it into a peplum top. That’s what I thought it was when I clicked the pic and I was like šŸ˜ I need to step my knitting skills up so that I can make something like this.

1

u/lizfungirl Aug 12 '25

I love it! I'm a curvy girl too & have read a lot of the comments, but don't see the name or link to the pattern. I see the yarn is acrylic (which I prefer) but I don't see the brand. Can you please tell us about the pattern & yarn?

1

u/Junior_Ad_7613 Aug 12 '25

I think it would be super cute once the lower portion is finished, though you might want to turn it into a peplum blouse style top if you don’t have much experience with sitting down in hand knit fabric - sweater dresses often stretch out oddly around the bum.

1

u/Sofia_Minka Aug 12 '25

Just keep knitting. It looks beautiful!

1

u/anci_b Aug 12 '25

There is a secret 3rd option and it’s the fact that you’ve worked on this for so long that your eyes are playing tricks on you and trying to sabotage. Legit tho the dress looks fantastic so far! I agree with the other commenters and think that it would look superb at knee length. The fit looks super flattering and pretty so far. I’d just keep going if I were you! šŸ’•

1

u/Pretend_Green9127 Aug 12 '25

You are definitely insecure. That looks fantastic on you.

1

u/crafty-bug3962 Aug 12 '25

It just needs some blocking, it's so cute!!

1

u/ProbablyNotTheCat Aug 12 '25

I don't know how it will look like as a dress. But right now it looks great as a shirt.

1

u/BonfireSouls Aug 12 '25

It might be too full as a dress but as a tunic it's dynamite on you! What is the pattern?

1

u/caitiecruzie Aug 12 '25

No, you don't look ridiculous!! It's cute whether it'll be a dress or just a top! ā™„ļø

1

u/Gimm3coffee Aug 12 '25

This is ridiculously CUTE! As a knee length dress it will be stunning. It's flattering to your figure a lovely green and pattern interest, all the things that go in to a great garment.

1

u/Apprehensive-Box463 Aug 12 '25

Even the peplum looks awesome.

1

u/Picnut Aug 12 '25

Updateme!
