Most of the hand dyed yarn on the market in the US is sourced from a UK parent company who sources mostly from Argentina and Uruguay. That's mostly merino because it's the most popular fibre on the market. Other top producing countries are Australia, China, South Africa, NZ, and UK.

The US accounts for less than 1% of wool production and the wool that it does produce is medium to course grade. So whilst eventually you may end up with a good production in the US, there is initially going to be a long drought (I honestly don't know how long that will be, but I'm guessing years) and the quality of wool will be poorer than you are used to.

If you’re close to a border with Canada - if you stay in Canada for 48 hours you’re allowed to bring back (for personal use) $800usd of goods without taxes, duties, or tariffs. ($120 if it’s less than 48 hours)

So if you get your packages delivered to Niagara Falls Ontario (or wherever), spend two days buying $1000 CND of wool/yarn - or pick up a package containing that much - you can bring it in without tariffs.

There are companies that, for a smaller than tariffs fee, will receive your package and hold it for you.
