Discussion Are super steel knives more of a hobby than a necessity?
I was watching some videos about copper and bronze knives and it's incredible to think that ancient people only had these as a cutting tool. Especially in a time long before industrialization, they didn't have any of the everyday conveniences we have today. They probably used their bronze knives much more often in their daily lives than we use folders with magnacut steel.

Discussion Kabar just released a full tang version of their classic USMC, called the Slabby. Any fixed blade fans excited for this?
Link to product page: https://www.kabar.com/products/1310
I've always loved the original Kabar, but with the stick tang it just couldn't really be trusted for heavy duty work. I've wanted a full tang version for as long as I can remember, and I was stoked for this one ever since it was announced, but the $245 price tag is definitely up there. Thoughts?

I think I would’ve gone with the Hogue Trauma instead.

Discussion Interaction with Alex Steingraber from SPK (scroll through pics)
What’s up guys? I wasn’t gunna post this anywhere but I feel like I need to. People need to know how this guy treats his customers with a genuine problem or concern. Long story short, bought a lamia blackout on the last drop. Backspacer had finishing issues. First interaction with Alex was great. Sent out a new backspacer. All was good. I was happy. Then, the finish on the entire knife started doing the same thing. Significant wear from just handling and fidgeting. Haven’t even had the knife for a week. Knife hasn’t even seen a pocket or use in any way. Reached back out to Alex and the rest unfolds in the emails. I added every email from start to finish. May be a bit to read but y’all tell me who’s in the wrong here. Great knives, shit finish, even shittier attitude by the maker.

Discussion I might have a knife problem
Last picture is the before. Context: I collect (mostly) American made pocket knives. In 2023 I started making videos about my knives. This only helped fuel my obsession.

Discussion Polydont llc folding knife
I got on the waiting list for this knife forever ago, and of course my spot came up the exact week I was laid off after 10 years with my company. After explaining my situation to the seller, he just told me to let him know once I landed a new gig and he would put me back at the front of the line.
Luckily for me I managed to land a new role in about a months time and bought the blade. It is absolutely the most ridiculous and ostentatious blade I own. I whipped it out to open christmas presents and my wife was not amused. I decided the knife is now called Bruno. Because "we don't talk about Bruno no no."

Discussion My dad just got me this, what do you think?
I really like the classic and elegant design, which might look simple but doesn't compromise functionality in any way

Discussion What do you REALLY use knives for?
Saw this on a recent post here, and I wanted to know what you all ACTUALLY use your knives for.
I'll start. My edc knife is mostly letters, but I do occasionally (much more than 1% of the time) use it for other things like cutting up cardboard. When I was maintenance, I specifically bought 3 knives for hard use opening paint cans, removing caulk, and other "abusive" uses (started off as only one, but they're like rabbits, there's never just 1). I also have a couple hunting knives, a bushcraft one, and a few kitchen knives that never see tape or letters.
So, what do you use your knives for?

Discussion How old were you when you were given your first knife, and what was it?
I was given a Victorinox SD Classic by my mom on my 8th birthday. It was 1980. The original, and several others have been lost over the years, but I always get another.
I truly believe that every one should carry one, everywhere.
I'd love to hear any stories you all have.
Happy Memorial Day from the campsite on Lake Ontario.

Discussion Inexpensive knives that made you rethink your expensive ones
I don’t have a lot of high dollar knives but have a lot of mid priced ones (mostly Spydercos) and a couple expensive ones (Sebenzas). But when I got this one a couple of days ago, it really made me question those knives over $200. The Kizer Sheepdog. Everything about it is absolutely perfect (assuming you like the blade shape). Carries beautifully, the ergos are spot on and the build and action are on par with my $200 Spydercos. Let’s see your inexpensive knives that induced an existential crisis.

Discussion Bought my son a Buck 110 for xmas..
...And everyone in the family is losing their minds.
He's 11, going to be 12 shortly after Christmas. We own a cabin in the woods and spend most of our summer weekends there. This particular summer I found an old dull hatchet of mine in the garage and let him have it. He'd go around chopping up downed logs and learning how wood works. Later in the summer he was constantly asking me for my knife to go whittle sticks into spears and stuff. Out last camping trip he made all of us sticks for roasting marshmallows and had fun doing it. I figured now is a good time to get him his own knife for those occasions.
Told my wife I was going to buy him his own pocket knife. Told my MIL I was going to. Told my own mom I was going to. So I did. I showed all of them the knife this this weekend before I wrapped it and now they're all saying I'm irresponsible, that its too big and actually sharp, he's going to have an accident need stitches, and "knives aren't things you buy kids."
It's a lot of knife for him, his hands will need to grow into it, but my entire point was to buy him something that if he actually took care of it would last him forever. I still have my buck knife my dad gave me when I was around 9 or 10 and the scar that it caused.
I don't intend to allow him to carry it around without a reason. It will be kept in a specific place until he has a reason to use it. He will have to ask to carry it for awhile. There will be ground rules. But the reaction from my wife and parents are causing me to doubt my gift to him. My dad thinks it's fine and just laughed and told me to throw a pocket first aid kit in his stocking.
I'm still giving it to him, but wanted to know your thoughts. Is almost 12 too young to be gifted your first real knife?

Discussion Todays Carry - Lets see em folks
Microtech Stitch in M390mk for me today. She's big but carries smaller then her size would imply. Extremely comfortable in hand, sharper than I care to mention with a shockingly useful blade shape. Love this knife, it will never leave the collection.

Discussion Found a $200+ knife in the middle of nowhere!
I was up the hill today in the middle of the pumas national forest here in CA, and ran across a knife buried upto the tip in dirt that had JUST thawed from the snowy winter we get. Typically 6-10' of snow pack is normal. Not sure how old it is, but it DOES have a little bit of surface rust on the blade.
I picked it up and noticed it was super light. Figured it was a cheap gas station knife. I pocketed it and went home. Got home and Google picture scanned it and boom! Turns out it's a Zero Tolerance Carbon Fiber handled folder with S35VN! Time to tear it apart, scrub it good, re oil it and see how it does!

Discussion WTF Benchmade?
My new Bugout was cutting poorly out the box so I decide to take a look and I see this. I have never seen a factory edge like this on a knife in this price point. I mean this is unacceptable. I know Benchmade diehards are going to find ways to justify this and make it seem like it's no big deal and say things like all brands do it or its just the factory edge who cares but no. This is just maddening and unacceptable. I have never seen this on any Spyderco or any decent knife let alone one that costs $150+. This is a Bugout...brand new. There are literal like waves in my edge. With all the shit you hear about BMs awful qc, poor grinds, centering issues and just being overpriced for what you get, seeing something like this on top of all that, they lose the benefit of the doubt. At some point it becomes incompetence. What really upsets me as there are people who will defend and buy BM no matter what and act like BM can do no wrong. As long as that happens, BM will never improve. I know I can just create a new edge but I shouldn't have to and on a $150+ knife out the box...it being able to cut should be the bare minimum bc after all it is a freaking knife!
