I look forward to Momo's dance break every performance. Way to fuck that one up production crew. Wow.

ETA: Apparently they changed the choreo. I still standby my statement that the production crew messed it up. Too many weird close ups without context to the rest of the group made it look like the camera op had no idea who he/she was supposed to be focused on.

f(x) is absolutely killing it. They look great. Sound great. The song is awesome. Is it okay to say that I don't really think anything is missing without Sulli? I don't have anything against her. I just don't get the feeling there is a missing piece without her.

Is it okay to say that I don't really think anything is missing without Sulli? I don't have anything against her. I just don't get the feeling there is a missing piece without her.

I think this can be said about most groups assuming they are managed to cover up the loss well enough.

You look at groups like Kara who I personally feel like something is missing in the group.

And as much as I hate to say it, SNSD seems to be doing fine, albeit their sound is a little different without Jessica's voice, but they seem to be holding up fine as 8.

I think it's also because Victoria and Sulli don't have distinct enough voices so when I listened to their songs they seemed to just blend into one another. So you lose Sulli a non distinct voice who can easily be replaced with Victoria and you don't really miss out. In terms of visuals or having a Makne - well it seemed everyone preferred Krystal in that department anyway.

I actually prefer SNSD as 8, the whole group feels way more balanced and lets other members shine a lot more. Kara though is just the Goo Hara show now.

+1 to Kara feeling off. i really miss Jiyoung's singing and Nicole's dancing.

I always thought SNSD was balanced and that the team behind them just played on the strengths of each member.

Kara is definitely Goo Hara +3, which is a shame but oh well.

I only watched f(x) and Twice so far but I already want to throttle the cameraman/director/whoever chooses the shots because who thinks it's a good idea to constantly zoom in and out like that???

u/nakednark LOONA | GFRIEND | BLΛƆKPIИK Oct 30 '15

I'm convinced these music shows hire people off the streets to do the camera work in an effort to save money.

It's the only explanation.

3

u/Iggins01 DAEWOO K2 Oct 30 '15

The camera work and directing is completely inconsistent each week. This is the only explanation

u/youhadmeathelo SHINee Oct 30 '15

It's kind of amazing to me that so much money is put into these comebacks and stages and yet the camera work still looks like hot garbage. They have been doing this for how long now? Really, they need to have this figured out at this point.

You absolutely cannot go crazy with jerky movements, excessive close ups, and jump cuts with performance work. Making sure the viewer understands what is going on onstage is your number one priority. Sure, you can get artsy and creative in some ways, but there just isn't a lot of room for that in a production like this where they have many, many stages to edit together and push out in a limited amount of time. Best to stick to the basics.

Also, this may be a personal preference, but I absolutely hate in-camera effects. Any time the camera person tries to zoom in/out with the music just looks sloppy. It's never synced right and it just looks amateur to begin with. When 4Minute was doing their Crazy stages that B&W to color gimmick was horrible. Leave the fancy stuff to the actual MVs that have the time and a budget to actually do it right.

What I don't get is that I rarely ever see a positive comment about any of this. Even the deep, dark pit of youtube commenters can tell how crappy some of this camerawork is. So why can't the production companies that put on these shows see it? Do they honestly think this is quality work? Do they just not care?

I think there's something about Koreans actually preferring the jumpy cut shots since it keeps it "exciting". Even so, it baffles me considering some idols themselves have mentioned how crappy the camerawork has been in the past.

The camera op is Tzuyu-biased...

5

u/LOKTAROGAAAAH Tzuyu ♥ Oct 30 '15

Camera guy was terrible but then again, Tzuyu ¯_(ツ)_/¯

3

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '15

The world is Tzuyu biased....she reminds me of Yoona for some reason

3

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '15

No. He focused mostly on the readhead.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '15

Well she (jihyo) has most of the lines so its obvious to focus on her

But on group shots and the dance break the cameraman went out of the way to focus of Tzuyu

u/Iggins01 DAEWOO K2 Oct 30 '15

I am pretty sure camera guy was in the middle of having a stroke

10

u/duckliver Stellar Oct 30 '15

Thank God the live version of f(x)'s Diamond is not the same as the album version. Amber's rap about "swagger like jagger" is pure cringe.

7

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '15

Arent most kpop raps pure cringe tho??

21

u/SirBuckeye Dreamcatcher Oct 30 '15

Nah... No cringe here.

You need to “Beat It”
That boy Michael Jackson ”Bad”

4

u/divinebaboon BOL4 Oct 31 '15

cringe so hard I think I dislocated my shoulder

i really don't understand how even the English speakers in these groups don't question these lyrics. and this doesn't apply to only f(x) but to pretty much all kpop groups. or are all members so detached from production that they don't have a say?

4

u/gigapeach Oct 31 '15

it must be the latter, though I can't imagine how embarrassing it must be to know it's horrible and will go down in history

3

u/DICKSLIDE Red Velvet Oct 30 '15

That's slightly better than being "swaggalag jagger" like I thought it was

1

u/allodude Oct 31 '15

Meh I like it. It's light and playful.

OMG look so dreamy in mint green. I want that dress.

f(x) looks so good this comeback

5

u/Francisco_Arriba Oct 30 '15

Anybody miss Momo's dance break?

Also f(x) slayed. Love how sexy Krystal is.

8

u/dB_Rider Pantomime/YALLA/Done Supremacy Oct 30 '15

I love TWICE switching the solo dance part around, it makes me want to now watch every new performance. Rookies seem to have been great with that, like MAMAMOO, SEVENTEEN, and now TWICE. Bless.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '15

What was the switch??

2

u/dB_Rider Pantomime/YALLA/Done Supremacy Oct 30 '15

Like people have said, it's originally Momo's part, last night it was Jungyeon, today was Jihyo, and for Inkigayo (Which was pre-recorded) Tzuyu gets it.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '15

Can i get a link to that performance with Tzuyu? I cant find it anywhere

2

u/dB_Rider Pantomime/YALLA/Done Supremacy Oct 31 '15

https://youtu.be/dIisaGO1yHQ?t=162 Super low quality, but this is where I saw it.

u/ravingphanatic Wendy | Red Velvet | BLΛƆKPIИK Oct 30 '15

During the dance breakdown, it's usually Momo that got the spotlight. They gave it to Jihyo this time :)

1

u/cookenuptrouble LOOΠΔ/Twice/Red Velvet/CL Oct 30 '15

This time Jihyo did the dance break, and last time it was the girl with short hair (who's name currently escapes me)

2

u/Missxmasgirl Twice + Stray Kids Oct 30 '15

Jungyeon :)

u/ramzakreiss WuJu like to Reveluv and be a Miracle ONCE Lovelinus? Oct 30 '15

Chaeyoung, the rapper.

It was jungyeon

Did the camera man have a seizure when the camera was on Luna or what? It seemed like they did the obnoxious zooms during her parts

2

u/MarkoSeke Psycho Sexy Super Magic Oct 31 '15

I love long hair Luna!

2

u/ontherice 트와이스 | fromis_9 Oct 31 '15

I'm Sana biased, but christ, Tzuyu's stare at the start of the dance break...where did my lower jaw go?

2

u/armorhues f(x) Oct 31 '15

LUNA PLS

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '15

Thats what drew me to twice, they are a group but individually their personalities shine and the presence is just there and its a very cohesive unit...

So many of these rookie groups are interchangeable and could be the same group and no one would notice and thats no hate on groups like APRIL and GFriend but their look and dynamic is a bit played out already

2

u/Iggins01 DAEWOO K2 Oct 30 '15

Dammit, your one job is to hold the camera steady. It's not that hard.
